Title: Maggie's hate for CoM

Author: SamHain

So I went to see what the new fortune telling hut was all about in Brit.

Come to find out, it led to an interestingly long investigation into our history!

After dropping a small pile of gold onto Maggie in return for some inspirational insight as to what fortunes (or calamities!) await me, she presumed I was sent to her by someone named Ellyn, from the Council of Mages.

I guess at that point, I wasted my money on a palm reading, but I decided to inquire what she was talking about. That led to an issue that I decided I needed to investigate for myself.

After all, she seemed rather upset thinking I was sent there to get her to join the Council of Mages, even though I was NOT.

Anyway, she went on about about the old Faction Wars and the belligerent Council of Mages and she continued to display disgust with them!

She referred several people to get more information of so I could figure out why she is living in anger with so much disdain and hatred for the Council of Mages.

The first person on the list was Horace, a historian and scribe that could be found at the library in the city Jhelom. I told him Maggie sent me and asked about the Faction Wars and he instantly seemed irritated. He mentioned noting many battles and that the Factions were a very bleak time in our history. He was very reluctant to give any specifics but referred me to an some old written accounts he created regarding the Faction wars and were kept at Castle British. So onward I continued on my journey to explain Maggies anger for the Council of Mages.

After finding the book I begin to peruse it's contents, becoming instantly appalled with a particular story! It involved a massacre of innocents in Minoc. It was the account of Squire Margaret, 6'th regiment of the True Britannian Army. Second Winter of the Faction conflict in the month of March.

It talked about the army making it's way to Minoc, and smelling burnt flesh before even making it there! Apparently the whole village was burned to the ground! People were corralled and burned alive, they swept the city for survivors but all had perished. Though healers tried to help, it was hopeless, and roughly 120 civilians had died. There were more stories of the same regard, it was very disturbing! I can now see why Maggie was so distraught when she thought I was sent to have her join the Council of Mages after what they had done!

I set out to learn more from another person she mentioned, Sir Wilkins of the True Britannians. I was told I could find him at the Keg & Anchor, a tavern in Trinsic, so I set out and found him! He was easy to spot, with all the slurring and sloppy slobbering!

After sobering him up he spoke of Maggie and how she was never able to let the anger go from the Faction Wars. When discussing the Wars he became saddened and still in disbelief. He mentioned how the Council of Mages Sided with the Shadowlords, being allured by evil, while the True Britannians fought seeking valor and virtue to Britannia. When Britannia needed the Mages most during this horrific battle, they turned their backs on Britannia...when they were needed the most! What they did was unforgivable, by both Wilkins AND Maggie.

This story is becoming more clear as I move along, and also much more grim! But I need to finish my quest for answers, so I seek out Glennis to hear more!

I made my way to the stones near Blighted Grove where I came upon Teagan the Caretaker. Glennis was unresponsive and mumbling things I could not understand. Teagan mentioned that Glennis had been purged from these lands and was a powerful Seer that never recovered from the Faction Wars. Apparently she had a vision of the Wars and has been scarred ever since, not talking about it to anyone.

But Teagan told us to explore a monument for her kind (seers) and read the book. I was told if I read the book, the last name in the title would trigger a response from Glennis.

We found the monument outside of Castle Blackthorn, and the book 'The Pages of Legends'. We returned and spoke the word to Glennis to get more information.

Glennis looked up, nearly crying and told us of her vision and attempts to warn them about the coming War, but was ignored. She seemed regretful that more wasn't done and that she felt she could have saved many lives, but her kind, the seers, were purged and her vision helped no one. From there she spoke of being ignored, and all being legends...then began muttering and spouting nonsense.

After investigating into the matter of Madame Maggie's anger towards the Council of Mages, I felt educated...and sad! I now understood why Maggie's was so disgruntled and jumpy when she talked to me at the fortune teller's booth.

I had no idea about the Faction Wars and the destruction it brought not only to the lands, but to all the valorous warriors trying to uphold Britannia from the grasp of the Shadowlords and Evil! It has definitely scarred Maggie, left Horace in a sad lowly state, caused Wilkins to live in a drunker Stupor and Glennis to live in a depressed state, detached from reality.

After stabbing all of Britannia and it's protector's in the back, I certainly see why Maggie hated the Council of Mages and was offended when she thought I was there to get her to join them.

I truly feel for her and all involved, and hope they can find it within themselves, not to forgive the Council of Mages, but move on from the atrocities they caused and the experiences they have endured.
