This Great House began as a group of mercenaries for hire, led by a noble warrior named William Tryon. Their exploits in the various conflicts of the day grew legendary and it wasn't long before their fame had spread throughout the realm. A Noble Lord brought them into his service and immediately sent William's men to conquer a neighboring fiefdom.
The Mercenaries were up to the task and they easily drove back their opponents, eventually destoryin them in a momumental battle in the heart of the Rosewood, east of Britain. As they prepared to ride home to their Lord and collect their sizable bonus, word came to them that an army of Lizardmen had swept out of the swamps and sacked a nearby village - a village that had been under the protection of the very army the Mercenaries had just defeated. Without a second thought, William Tryon and his men turned their mounts and rode to the village where they found a force of monsters equal to twenty times their own number.
The men of Tryon's Mercenaries fought with ferocity and absolutely decimated this monstrous army, driving the Lizardmen back to the swamps in retreat. In the end, only William himself survived, but he was barely holding on to his life force. The villagers who had managed to hide when the monsters invaded, brought William to the only place they knew he might be helped... to their Liege Lord.
When William had been brought before the Noble Lord, the very man that had lost his lands and his armies to William's Mercenaries, the Noble gave his greatest efforts to heal William. He quickly realized that he would fail. Yet, he had been so moved by the sacrifice of William, his enemy, that he tore out his sword and Knighted him on his deathbed. The last words William heard as he fell into eternal slumber were, "Ye shall be known from this day forward as Sir William Tryon, Knight and Elder of the House of the Rosewood." Upon learning of this, William's employer quickly sent diplomats to his conquered neighbor, celebrating the Heraldry of the House of Rosewood and offering peace and protection to his former for.
