History

The Necromantic Brotherhood

Rumors abound about the origin of Admoreth Nazduin. The only certainty to any of these rumors is that he is a half elf born from a House of Elves who were tainted by the Corrupted Forest in an effort to cleanse it.

Admoreth's great story, however, began when he was enlisted in the Necromantic Brotherhood of Umbra, under the watchful eye of Headmaster Mardoth. Though Admoreth was often despised by many in the Brotherhood due to his elven lineage, he excelled in his Necromantic studies and gained the respect of a select few peers. Admoreth knew better, for he knew that it was his capabilities that the Brotherhood revered him for, not himself. Frankly, he preferred it that way; He knew he was useful, and wouldn't be done away with so needlessly like many others.

Admoreth gained respect quite quickly, so quick that he became one of Mardoth's favored students. There were quite few, only four. The other three were Vrae'il, Aarimahn, and Nephraal. The four would often carry out delicate tasks and important orders for Mardoth, usually the rest of their peers kept in the dark. However, the four Necromancers greatest work would not favor Mardoth and the Brotherhood.

As time passed in their elite services, the four Necromancers formed a bond of sorts, though none dared call each other friends. Through many discussions they found they had a common theory about Mardoth; He knew more about the black arts than he was letting on. After all, they had been practicing the same cantrips of assuming the form of temporary visages of the undead for ages, all of which were inferior to the genuine blessings of undeath.

Aarimahn, Mardoth's favored of the four, took it upon himself to investigate Mardoth's study to find evidence of higher forms of the Black Arts. His search proved fruitful, as Aarimahn found documentation of a feud between Mardoth and Maabuus, one of the founders of the Necromantic Brotherhood of Umbra. Indeed, it was the same Maabuus that acolytes of the Black Arts were ordered to consult with as their first assignment. According to Mardoth's journals, Maabuus had come across higher forms of Necromancy perpetuated by a mysterious force come to be known as Entropy, the source of which was called Oblivion. In addition, it seemed that Maabuus had frequently ventured out into uncharted territory searching for a skull of some sorts. Mardoth's information regarding this particular branch of the Black Arts was limited, though sufficient enough to reveal him for the fraud of a teacher that the four suspected him to be. Aarimahn noted the information carefully, and brought his findings to Admoreth, Nephraal, and Vrae'il.

Upon learning all that Mardoth had kept from the Necromantic Brotherhood, the four vowed to learn more of this bizarre art. The four swore a vow to keep their practices hidden from Mardoth, as any discovery would lead to their immediate demise. Keeping true to the quest of Maabuus, the four Necromancers formed a cabal that they called the Seekers of the Skull.

Interesting Facts

  • Bits and pieces of Admoreth's spellbook were found in the Temple of Oblivion after his demise. It's uncertain if any pages from his spellbook survived the Temple's destruction.
  • Admoreth believed that the entire facet of Malas was the remnants of the former Stygian Empire, devoured by Oblivion.
  • Due to Nizar's skull becoming the new Ebon Skull, Admoreth often fell under Nizar's influence. This would sometimes lead to irrational fanaticism and insanity, noted and feared even by the most dedicated of Oblivion's followers. Most of the Order was oblivious to such, though some speculation and outrageous rumors came about.
  • Admoreth believed that Vaen Swiftar was the avatar.
  • Admoreth, truth be told, despised Oblivion. He felt cheated by fate when the skull chose him, instead of him choosing the skull. In retaliation, Admoreth sought to make his followers' service absolute misery. He'd often give juxtapose orders for the sake of confusion. Any use of Oblivion, or faith, as justification for his demands was used in a manner similar to the way the Ebon Skull chose him; Admoreth chose Oblivion as his tool, and paid dearly for it.
  • Though Admoreth despised much of the Order, there were certain members that he held in favorable regard. Zh'Azhak Svoyza, for his blatant mockery of the faith, and Seryas Triasmos, for his cruel, and quite humiliating, torture that he would inflict upon the rest of the Order as chief inquisitor. Such torture was quite imaginative, as he forced a future lich lord, at the time of inferior rank, to eat dirt.
