When writing up some in-game posts, I have found that I tend to have so much to write that it just comes to the point that I feel that it might just be too long for the good of mankind.
So I turn to you, the considered audience, to request feedback.
I am of two minds when it comes to this sort of writing with you all as the intended audience:
1.) Many of you are avid fans of fantasy novels, novellas, and stories, so part of me feels that you might enjoy something a bit lengthier and longer than the typical post-it-note posting.
and
2.) Many of you have better things to do than to read whatever crap I smear on the boards.
So I guess what it comes down to is this: Am I wasting mine and other people's time with unnecessary and boring pieces of writing? You can be honost with me, I wont cry too much. _________________ Galathan

The length in one post is a bit long for my liking. I love reading fantasy novels and stories and stuff..but I usually power through the boards quickly cause I have a couple other forums that I read...or Im doin it before work and stuff ya know? I think if you were to write something like that..but break it into pieces...do one half or something in the morning..than one half at night..this way it splits it up for people and they'd have more time to read it.
I enjoy the longer story's rather than the quick posts..just try to break it up for time...just my two cents! |

I like crepes...
of course to me crepes are pancakes.
To be honest, it was long. I might not be the best placed since i write about 1 IC post every 2 years or so but I believe that a good thing would've been to cut your story into many parts thus making it more pleasant to the readers and keeping the "suspence" throughout the parts. _________________ Legerion Sorcafor

If the writing is good and the story catches my interest then the length really has no bearing.
Interesting story, just stop hitting ladies, one of em will hit back one of these days *grins* _________________ Lady Toni McStravick-Skyfire

I just want to post and congratulate you on being hardcore and keeping the 'Survivors of Ormus' ribbon in your avatar. I think I'll put it back in too. |

It was really, really tough for me to get through that post and I will admit it took about 20 minutes because I needed breaks from it.
It's amazing how your brain handles one post versus a bunch of shorter ones. Dunno if it's a progress thing or something. |

I was thinking the same thing. I also find that reading longer things via computer is more 'draining' than say reading the same amount in a book. I was thinking in the future to try and keep the posts to 3-4 pages tops (which would be like half of what that last one was, which was 8 pages single spaced, far longer than I wished for). And if the story demands more than 3-4 pages, then split it into two (or more) posts.
Thank you for your input guys, critique is always very, very welcome.

Yes there was nothing wrong with the amount you wrote. Just the presentation, I suppose.
Wonderful read though |

I really enjoy reading how our rp played out. Your writing of it amazed me. I believe also that if the story is well written, the length isn't a problem because you get sucked into the story. Good job Galathan. _________________ Deadly Vixen

The length of a story doesn't bother me. What does bother me is when people do not use paragraphs. I don't even bother reading a story if it is all in block format. |

When I wrote it up, it had paragraphs. When I copy and pasted it, it LOOKED like it had paragraphs (with rather severe indentations). However, when actually submitted, there were no indentations whatsoever. Is there any way to fix this? Or just put spaces between paragraphs?
I edited the last piece of writing and put spaces between each paragraph to see if it is easier to read. _________________ Galathan

There is something you learn after writing alot, that consiceness can be your friend. Understanably, you had a great deal to write about as alot happened that night, though some of your extra details are what award it its length. That, however, is personal writing style. If you read Poe, you will notice he could make his point on average 2-4 pages sooner if he excluded alot of his exteraneous detailing. Personally, I love your writing style. I write pretty much the same way, just a bit more concise.
Brava. |
