Is it acceptable for a roleplay character to call another roleplay character a prostitute or say their name resembles a prostitute's name ICly?

And furthermore, would any of you roleplayers page a GM on a respected and trusted member of our community for it?

This kind of behavior needs to be curbed, for the better of the community. If it hurts your feelings OOC, then you are at fault, not the roleplayer.

If the remark was made in character, then its IC. (If it was made ooc, the person who said it is causing "drama.")
If its taken OOC, its the receiving player's inability to differentiate the two. :/ (In which case the receiving player is causing "drama." O.o)
If the remark was made IC and was responded to accordingly IC, then it is still RP. (The way it should be 100% of the time. :/)
Paging on someone for RP though is lame. :<
That's like an orc or barbarian-type character using the word vanquish during conflict-RP and a few minutes later they find themselves getting a 72 hour vacation (or perma-ban, depending on the number of marks on the account) due to RP.

perhaps a mutual solution. Rather that use the words wh0re or prostitute you could use, woman of ill repute or one who practices the worlds oldest profession. Sometime the delivery and current situation can alter ones perspective on a situation. As far as the Rest, Orion hit the nail on the head.

I know ICly Kali has used such harsh language towards Cherry DeLite, but she knows that it is all IC, and as far as I know it has never upset her oocly, cause she knows that I love her and how she can RP the socks off anyone, including NPC's as we are walking through Ilshenar Very Happy

I think anyone that takes things like this OOC need to back up and reevaluate if they are playing a game or if they are becoming a part of the game.

Words like harlot, prostitute, barwench, etc... are usually used. If people can't take it, they need to be reminded that it's just a game.

You can always send the person a party invitation and ask them OOCLY if they mind if you use the terminology in reference to their character, if in doubt. Usually it is wiser to be prudent and find out before making assumptions and doing something that might upset a person, but at the same time most people need to chill out and play the game.

To be serious though (damn you Rob for getting stuck on gargoyle infinitives), I feel that if there is a chance you can be paged on and get in trouble for saying something, don't say it, because there are plenty of people out of AND in the community that would go the full nine yards just to see you get in trouble.

So, long story short, don't assume that everyone is mature enough not to try and pull that one on you. There've been far more immature OOC threats made and actions taken. This one is childs play to someone that would love to see you in trouble out of some pathetic notion of revenge, or just because it amuses them.

Nightshade is alot of things that anyone that knows me, knows I am not, if someone called her a woman of the night (darn filter)or prostitute, I would not be upset as I am not her.

I agree with Mith though, you shouldnt give people the fuel to punish you if that is their whim, so delegate caution I guess with people you know tend to get dramatic.

Sadly I do, and seriously for someone evil or such, it does hinder your abilities to properly convey your character, and that is sad....yet it is life or err in Nightshades case Unlife..
