The night was warm and moist. I must have rained sometime in the past day or so. The gravel below her feet was wet, causing little slapping sounds with each step she took. Vash took the lead, trotting on his horse at a slow pace, allowing for her to keep up. When they finally reached the dark city of Umbra, Daeynaries was relieved to end the long hike from Sanctus. Her legs ached and her feet were sore from trying to keep up. They made their way to the Tavern for a cool drink and perhaps a chicken leg or two. Vash opened the flap leading into the tent of the Tavern, laughter could be heard from inside. As she ducked inside, she looked around at the many patrons, scanning the crowd for familar faces. Daeynaries could only sigh in reprieve, she saw no one she knew. Vash took a seat in the corner of the Tavern and Daeynaries followed, removing her backpack, setting it down next to the chair. She motioned the tavernkeeper over and ordered a ale along with two chicken legs. The food and drink could not come soon enough, she was famished. When her chicken finally arrived, Daeynaries must have looked like a savage as she ripped flesh off the chicken bone, juices running down her chin. Patrons came and went as she relaxed in her chair. finally full on chicken and ale. Daeynaries was content for the time being.
The flap to the tavern tent opened suddenly and a gust of wind followed, nearly blowing out the candle on the table. A woman of around five feet entered. She looked to be human with snow white, lengthy, straight hair, held firmly in place by a black magicians hat. The woman glanced breifly at Daeynaries and her eyes shone a rich purple. Daeynaries gave her a crocked smile, she was lovely in a dark, sinister sort of way. Something about this woman rattled Daey, but she showed no signs of it. As the woman sat down across from Vash, Daey noticed her pulling a book from her pack along with a quill and ink. She began to write something. Before Daey could watch the scene fold out any further, another figure entered the tent. A tall man of almost six feet, wearing dark tan, and spectacles. His goatee matched his neatly tied hair, a reddish-brown. He was tall but not overly built, swaying on scrawney. She grinned at him with slightly narrowed eyes. This was to be her victim tonight. Her heart raced as the thoughts bounced around in her head. Daey instantly started scheming on how to get him alone. By the looks of him he was a intellectual, so all she had to do was keep him talking, make him feel she was interested. Once they were alone, she would have his coin pouch and no one would be the wiser.
Secretly, Daey pulled out her locket, hanging around her neck. She flipped it open and gazed at the white substance inside. Her body tingled just looking at it, her heaven she called it, and heaven it was. She had gotten careless as of lately, when she got low, mixing it in public to get her fix. She had to stop but she did not know how. She had tried all the other drugs on the underground market, The Shade, Utopia, nothing made her feel like this. It gave her a longer high, strength, and endurance beyond her wildest imaginations. She was a goddess when on euphoria, hence the name she gave it. Daey dipped her pinky in the locket, taking a nail-full to her nose. She snorted deeply and instantly got the rush she so badly needed. She rubbed her nose furiously before closing the locket, replacing it against her chest.
Daey got up from the table and went over to where the man sat.
"I beg your pardon sir, but may I sit with you?" she asked in a soft, sweet voice.
The man looked up and smiled, "Of course". He replied, motioning his hand towards the chair across from him. Daey
took her seat gently, as not to fall over. The euphoria was flowing strong in her and her vision was a bit off.
"I am Daeynaries, but my friends call me Daey or Daey Daey. What do you call yourself?"
"Jovrick Enselno Svynr Albregad" he said with a grin.
"Wow.. a long name indeed! But a strong name. I like it." Daey smiled coyly at him, wrapping a tendril of hair around her fingertip. "I shall call you Jov for short."
The corners of Jovrick's mouth curled into a smile. Daey was elated that things were going according to planned.
They conversed for more then an hour, idle flirting and chat being passed back and forth. He seemed interested, which would make her job even easier. Daey's high abrubtly left her and she began to shake softly, attempting to grab her locket from around her neck. She needed -it- now. She went through the process of opening it and taking her hit in front of Jovrick. She didn't care. He questioned her about the substance and what she was doing, so she filled him in.
"This is a substance I proudly call, Euphoria. Its a mixure of things that I shallt tell you. Would you care to try some?" She plainly told him.
Daey held the locket out to him and he dipped his pinky in, taking only a bit to his nostril. She watched his every move and reaction to it, with a wide grin on her face. He chuckled and his eyes rolled in the back of his head. Daey clapped like a child on her birthday. She forgot about her ploy to rob him, the drug was clouding her thoughts.
"You should distribute this, have you ever thought of that?" Jovrick spoke softly so the tavernkeeper didn't hear.
Daeynaries stood up and sauntered over to him, throwing a leg over his chair, lowering herself down on his lap. She made her eyes soft and tilted her head to gaze at him. She wrapped her arms around his neck to give him the full effect of her heaving chest.
"I will need help in this endeavor. Fifteen percent?" She said in a low husky voice.
"Sixty..." He replied.
"Thirty..." She responded.
"Fifty... take it or leave it." He rebutaled.
Daey growled at him, frustrated. Didn't he know she had to make it and bottle it!
"Fifty it is." She gave in finally.
"A kiss to seal the deal?" Jovrick gave her a coy smile, how could she resist.
Daey leaned into him and cupped his face, kissing him. He returned her kiss holding her around her waist. Almost imeditately after, he slapped her bottom and said sternly. "Up!" Daey jumped up with a look of dismay.
"I have work to do Daey, as do you. I will call for you. Do not disappoint me.. Ever.." With that he shoved her back gently and briskly walked out of the tent.
"Vermin!" She screamed loudly for him to hear, but all she heard was a chuckle. She made her way for the inn all the while thinking to herself, what have I gotten myself into. To late to turn back now.. _________________ Deadly Vixen

Daey tossed and turned in the bed, her legs tangled in the sheets. She always had a rough time falling asleep, unless she passed out from exhuastion. The nights were always cold and lonely. Most times her locket kept her warm, inviting her into a world of disillusioned bliss. Daey opened her eyes and gave a frustrated grunt. It was turning into one of those nights. She sat up and scooted back against the headboard, grasping her locket in a sweaty palm. Daey popped the clasp on it and gazed at the substance inside. Her eyes glazed over as she stared deep into the locket. Her heaven, her euphoria, her life was in that locket and she loved it more than life itself. Daey dipped her pinky into the powerdy substance and brought her nail to her nostril, snorting deeply. Her mind began its trip down the rabbit hole, visions of the last few days flashing before her. Her meeting with Ceinwyn and her lackies of Umbra, Vash's wicked grin as he removed his helm for her the first time, Jovrick and his brillant plan, her stash. All thoughts went back to the stash. Maybe Jovrick was right about not using your own substance. Her thoughts were on it more and more lately. -It- consumed her life. Daey shook her head suddenly, trying to clear her mind of the week's events. She had to get some rest, Jovrick made it clear she was to put the plans in motion by the next days time. Daey took hold of her locket once more, opening the clasp, taking a rather large hit to help her sleep. Almost instantly she slumped against the headboard.
When Daeynaries finally awoke, it was mid-afternoon. The sun was high in the sky, shining through the window bidding her good morning. She squinted and rubbed her eyes, stretching on the soft linen. She had a pounding head-ache, but such was normal untill she got her first taste of the day. She got up, washed in the basin and dressed, then made her way downstairs to pay the innkeeper for the previous night. Ardel knew her well and never gave her any problems about paying after the eve's rest instead of prior. How could he? He was a client of hers and needed her. After a cold breakfast of eggs and bacon, Daeynaries went to the stablemaster to pick up her steed. Before long she was at her favorite place, in front of the cauldron. She grabbed a pitcher of water and dumped it into the cauldron after lighting a fire underneath. It was so hot steam rose instantly from it. She dug in her backpack for her pouch, opening the drawstring. Daey took a handful of the pungant smelling herbs and dumped them into the boiling cauldron. A vivid green cloud formed and the air was thick with its stench. She grinned coyly at nothing in-particular, she was her happiest during these times. The mist from the cauldron collected. then eventaully found its way out of the tent. Daeynaries wanted to chase after, breath it in, and die of its potency. Even the smell of it made her feel as if she was weightless, floating on a current of perfection. She glanced quickly at her timepeice, it was almost finished. Before long she would have enough to distribute to an entire kingdom. If, of course, sales went well. After the herbs were properly boiled, she laid them out to dry on a table lined with rough parchment. Daey checked on the previous nights herbs, squeeling in delight. They were ready for packaging. She would need to grind them into a fine powder, but she perfered keep them in dried form until right before the sale. This kept the herbs as fresh as possible. Daeynaries always carried with her a mortar and pestal as well as a pouch of the dried drug. After all the nessasary preparations were complete, she grabbed her backpack, throwing it over her shoulder and made her way to to her steed. Tonight would prove to be interesting if they took the bait.
"Foolish Sanctions. You have no idea a storm is coming and I ride with it... " She whispered to herself with a soft giggle following. She stepped up onto the horse's saddle, threw her leg over, and kicked her steed roughly in its side. They burst into a full gallop with the sun setting behind them. _________________ Deadly Vixen

Malorn looked down at the corpse at his feet, then to his bloodied dagger. The thought crossed his mind... It had been a productive meeting. All the information he needed: market flow, types, demand, and salability, all he needed. He wiped his dagger clean with an oil cloth and looked once more, questioningly at the corpse. What to do with it?
He hefted the man over his shoulder, a bit of blood falling on his oiled chainmail. He crept to the end of the dock and looked around cautiously. Strapping some platemail to the man, he kicked him off the end of the dock and watched the corpse sink to the floor. Out of sight... out of mind.
He began walking back towards Jehlom's Pits, when to his surprise, Daeynaries stood there, in plain view, hollering to the fighters, trying to sell them on the substance. He grabbed her from behind, covering her mouth with a blood drenched glove and dragged her to a secluded location. He let her loose and took off his mask, explaining to her the premise of the capture, and how foolish it was to shout about the product. She seemed to agree and he began to lay his plan before her. A plan of anarchy, a plan of mass chaos, all caused by the addicts' cupidity. All of them turning to those two for hope in a powdery pile.
She seemed unsure and timid to agree. Malorn's anger was aroused and he drew a dagger menacingly, though it seemed to get him nowhere. He sighed and sheathed the blade, moving in close her her. He would try a different way. He whispered gently in her ear.
"You can be the savior of an empire. You could be hailed as a goddess. You will bring everyone the release, peace, hope, and sustenance they need. All it requires is some minor discomfort, a few falls from grace just to instill a disillusioning. You could be their savior, bringing them hope in their hour of need, and saving them from the lies spout on them their whole lives. It requires only this." She repeated the word "goddess" gently once after he had finished. A smirk curled across his lips and he sat her back down.
"I know the perfect place to stow it..." She giggled softly as he grinned at her, and then they proceeded on their way to where they would house the stash. |

She coughed several times gasping for breath, her lungs almost collapsing on her. Daeynaries took a momentary glance at her hand only to see blood apon her palm. Her eyes widened before a fit of coughing resumed.
"You really have to quit Daey, your going to kill yourself." Jovrick gave her a concerned look, his eyes pleading with her. "Who are you to talk, murderer." She spat at him, venom seething from her tone. He glared at her, but she could tell she had wounded him. Daey immediately felt ashamed but didn't say so. She knew showing him weakness would only fuel his desire to continue this venture without her.
"Daey, I care for you and don't want to see anything happen to you. We need each other." He stared at her with sincere eyes. Was he serious? She could hardly fathom that he spoke those words. Daey sat up on the cot, cross legged. Jovrick sat next to her. She wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him in a tight embrace. It just felt right after what he said. Daey released him and sighed deeply. Tears welled in her eyes but she pushed them back. Jovrick took a long look at her, pushing a stray hair from her face and asked in a soothing voice. "The man you spoke of, Alen.. What happened with him?" Daey thought quickly, trying to form a lie that was plausable. "We were in love.. He treated me as a princess. Gifts, flowers, picnics. I fell hopelessly in love with him. My every breath and movement ached for his approval. Things were wonderful for a time. He was ever so devoted." She sighed and then continued. "It all crumbled one day when he came to me and told me it was over.. There was another he loved and he had used me to make her jealous. He actually USED me so she would come back to him! I never saw him again, and my heart went with him, never to feel again."
Daey straightened her shoulders and smiled wickedly at him. "Now do you see why I just don't care? Why men to me are nothing more then vessals for my habit?" She continued. "It is better off that way. Life has never been better for me. I have a grand partner and plenty of gold and euphoria to keep me happy." Secretly she wanted to burst into tears, but she held back. Thinking of Alen always did this to her. Jovrick patted her knee gently and gave her a understanding look.
They sat in silence for quite along time before Daey grasped her locket and popped it open. She took a rather LARGE snort of the substance, Jovrick staring her down disapprovingly. Almost instantly her head began to spin and she slumped onto the cot, breathing deeply. She slept..
"Alen.... " Daey said softly in her sleep. "Alen, please dont take her away.."
"Take who?" Jovrick whispered in her ear.
"Emerald.. please don't take my baby.." She whispered in return.
Jovrick laid down next to Daey, his face close to her belly.
"Alen... I love you.." Daey said in the softest tone.
Jovrick laid a palm on her belly and whispered to it in a tone dripping with wickedness. "Not for long.." _________________ Deadly Vixen

He was starting to figure her out, and she was right… She was not much different than other women. He knew what she wanted, and moreover he knew how to make her believe he wished for her to realize her cupidity. It was all starting to fall into place.
Malorn gazed on her silently, his mind aglow with thoughts and plans. He was analyzing the conversation about to take place, (though he was uncertain the exact course it would take) he assumed the gist of it and formulated a few basic reactions. Improvisation had never been his strongest suit, and he did not wish to blunder at such a crucial time. Everything had to g perfectly tonight; she trusted him now, and for all she knew, he trusted her, and such a “bond” between business partners should never be broken without proper, just cause created only through a better business opportunity.
He stared on as she made short work of her hourly dose. It was much as before only she began to cough, blood forming in her mouth. The thought had crossed his mind: now was his chance to begin halting her pattern, before he lost her (and more importantly) the recipe for ever. His eyes welled up with tears and he spoke in a low, quivering voice pleading with her stop, and expressing his fallacious, though moving, concern. He knew he had gotten through to her, though he was not sure if it would prove any help… yet. If he could get her to feel the way for him she had for her lost lover, she would quit immediately, and stay sober until they parted ways and their business venture had ceased.
He inquired on the man, searching her face (with a look of pure sympathy), scrutinizing every detail in her manners to assess her true feelings for him. She loved him, it was overtly obvious, and it took all of her will to not shed a tear.
So this is how she is going to feel when I have decided it is over?
He shrugged off the idea, knowing it played no benefit to dwell on such. Daenaries would be extravagantly wealthy and entirely well off, one should ne’er shed concern over her egregious emotional status. He drove his thoughts away as she finished her tangent, and he did his best to formulate a reassurance fitting for the situation, though he was certain his company and “intent listening” was quite right and proper enough. She immediately threw her arms around his neck and hugged him and he did his best to prove comfort in her own embrace. He was in.
He discovered the most amazing thing to follow… She had fallen asleep and yet… they were still conversing! His mind was abuzz, now, with all the possibilities and every answer he could wretch from her without her knowing. With a few tests of the responsive and cognitive levels, he may even pry from her the formula itself. And what then? What of her, when he had no need for her? He, for some bizarre reason, could not seem to desire proceeding without her.
He thought on his odd reaction to the situation for a few moments before lying down next to her. He would gather more information on her daughter in whatever means, though his course of action on the formula would follow a different route. She trusted him, and that was all he needed to consummate her love. It would not be very much longer now, his mind was set, and she was destined to follow suit. |

She had snorted her largest batch that night. Daey's mind whirled with hallucinations. Laying on her back on the bed in the Umbran inn, images played out before her. A brightly coloroed rainbow rat scuttled across the tile, turned and looked at her, with empty eye sockets. Her breath caught in her throat and a soft whimper escaped her lips. Daey blinked rapidly untill the hallucination faded. Only to be replaced with something much darker. Daeynaries's skin crawled and she gulped agains't a dry throat. A shadowey figure was growing on the wall ajacent of her. Every second it grew larger and larger untill it was looming over her like a dark cloud ready to consume her whole.
Daey let out a loud scream and snatched the dagger from the bed-side dresser. She pointed it tauntingly at her hallucination as if it would help. "Oh please make it stop, please just make it go away." She whispered into the empty air. Two large red eyes appeared where the sockets would be. Her hand shook as she pointed her blade at the ceiling. Beads of sweat were forming all over her body. She knew mentally it wasn't real, yet her physical form responded to it as if it were. Daey knew she had to do something quick for fear of heart failure. She looked down at her thighs, several cuts were healing on both. Without even so much as a flinch, she sliced into her left thigh. Daey knew exactly how far to cut before hitting bone. Blood slid down her thigh covering the sheets. Her hallucination faded suddenly and a satisfied smile played apon her lips. Daeynaries closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep. The sound of her daughters laughter lulling her into dreamland. _________________ Deadly Vixen
