MeLady Ceinwyn,

I request a meeting with you as soon as possible. I will await you at the Tavern in the city of Umbra at your earliest convenience.

Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel

Ceinwyn ab'Arawn read the letter over. The messenger had already crept out of the hall. Smart man.

At Orion's query, Ceinwyn explained to he and Orianna their next move.

"Kitsune form, both of you. Molly will surely not meet me alone. You will join me."

On their way out, who should enter, but Toren Smythe. Having no time for formalities and casual talk, Ceinwyn simply told him they were going to meet Molly, and invited him along.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And she did come alone. Fancy that. No guards. No Will. It was interesting, and brave and altogether foolish. Thusly, it was easy enough to relax and speak to Molly in the privacy of the Wailing Banshee Inn.

They stood, facing each other. Ceinwyn's curiousity bit viciously. What had Molly come all the way to Umbra city for?

"In exchange for my life," Molly stated. Ceinwyn paused a moment, in disbelief.

"You are but one life, Molly. You think yourself worth all of them?"

Ceinwyn listened to Molly's attempt to explain that she might be of worth to Umbra. She failed to see it from Umbra's point of view. She was some grand martyr, come to give her life for the survival of her people. Of Luna. Ceinwyn reveled in this moment. Life did offer too few of them. She tested Molly's depths, asking if she would sacrifice her daughter to save her people, though she already knew what would be Molly's answer. Oh well, it never hurt to ask, she thought, and gave up that idea.

"If Luna wishes to save itself," Ceinwyn paused and looked to Molly with meaning, "It will attack Sanctus to gain our favor."

Molly protested that her people would never do such a thing, that she would never ask them to. Ceinwyn attempted to cajole her.

"Ahh such a pity, you would possibly win without losses," She lied.

"I can offer myself. That is all I can offer," Molly stated firmly.

"You don't understand... your life.. is already mine. Umbra.. the rise of Darkness, we will prevail. If you wish to save your wretched people you will turn against the true paladins south."

"They will not do so. I can give you only what I have..."

"Then you must convince them... and Molly... time is not long..."

Their conversation was interrupted by a knock at the door. Orion issued a report of Sanctians in the city.

"Shall we greet them, sister?" Ceinwyn smiled.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Stepping into the coolness of the city air, Ceinwyn and Molly were greeted with the countenance of James M'Real, himself.

Joy..

The knightly speech that poured forth from his mouth was typical of what they'd all come to expect from the M'Real Clan. Talk of saving Sosaria. Ridding the world of Evil. Ceinwyn was fine with it all, thus far. Until he spoke of Oblivion.

There are some topics of conversation in life, that you simply do not touch when speaking with certain peoples. You didn't speak to Blackthorn about Virtue. You didn't dare speak to the Meer about the Juka. And in Umbra, bringing up the topic of Oblivion to the Matriarch was the surest way to bring her wrath upon one's head. This one subject, in itself, was the latest source of controversy for the city. Sure, a war with Sanctus had made the cover of the local tabloids for a day or two, but the topic of Oblivion was a selling headline.

James M'Real was even now comparing the power of Umbra with the power of Oblivion. Ceinwyn hated this stale argument. Oblivion was the oldest evil around, it was all anyone feared and thus, those of the light quivered when they spoke of it. Little did they know, another source of evil existed. While it's relatively novel-ness gave an advantage to the Umbrans, it still contributed to this very type of nay-saying.

Ceinwyn found it both aggravating and irksome.

"Would you like a taste of our power?" She asked James, gazing over the men with him.

More banter exchanged and suddenly Orion was attacking the head M'Real. As his guards joined in, so too, did the Umbrans. It was over as quickly as it began.

Wiping the blood from her sword, Ceinwyn turned to Molly.

"You see? This is what we have become used to. These M'Reals preaching to us, bringing their views to Umbra. Instigating fights."

Molly tried to explain James was acting on the behalf of good. Typical one-sided point of view. Sheathing her sword, Ceinwyn looked at Molly.

"We might be willing to spare Luna, in exchange for the Chest of Evil."

Molly's eyes widened as she realized Ceinwyn knew of the chestpiece. She argued that she would never give it up.

"Not even if it would spare every life in Luna, including your own?"

Ceinwyn listened as Molly explained the whys of not giving the piece to Ceinwyn, as it could result of the suit being completed. Ceinwyn feigned surprise at hearing there was a whole suit of the armor. She actually knew quite well where the other pieces lay. But, Molly didn't need to know that.

"Those are your choices, either give me the Chest of Evil and spare the lives of all in Luna, or attack Sanctus."

"Molly, I told you. Giving yourself to me now... that only makes one less life to kill, later. However, you can earn our graces by attacking Sanctus. Perhaps we will spare Luna."

"I don't like the options..." She began, but Ceinwyn cut her off.

"They want Luna, Molly. They will not stop with us. They think Luna is weak. Talon's son is a necromancer."

Molly's eyes widened as she took in this new information. Ceinwyn didn't actually know this for a fact, but what did the truth matter? She had a Duchess to sway. She looked at Molly, who seemed to be overwhelmed at this new bit of news. She pressed her point, further.

"What do you think will happen when he ascends the throne? Yes, you see? Join us... join us, Molly.. and save Luna."

Molly's manner was now one of obvious confusion. She excused herself to go sleep and think it over.

"Yes, Molly, go have pleasant dreams in your currently warm, safe bed in Luna. Think over the choices..."

As Molly departed, Ceinwyn felt very satisfied, as if progress had been made. True, if Molly gave her the chest piece she had no intention of making good her promise, but who really needed to know that? Siezing Luna would give her the piece, anyway. One more trinket for her collection.

So many steps must be made before I can destroy Trinsic.

Merci had come to Umbra tavern like any other night, it was not filled with the ussual sights.

She recognized a few that gathered there, Lord Sid and the new regent Porthos and was quite shocked at the sight of them here in Umbra's tavern.

There were a few others she had not met as well as a man in dark clothing, his face covered, which really was quite common in Umbra. Pizza Ana! Merci called out and bought one of the tasty pizzas from the tavern baker.

Orianna came up in Kitsune form and caused quite a stir amongst the regent and Lord Sid, as apparently they were not to familiar with such a creature. Merci smiled on in amusement as Porthos attempted to feed Orianna.

The night filled with even more surprise when Gorgon the Orc strolled into Umbra. She was keeping a sharp eye on him as she didnt trust him, when one of the last people she thought she would ever see in Umbra walked up.

Indeed it caused quite a stir in the crowd as all turned to look upon the Duchess Molly herself. Merci was confused but did notice the figure in black making rampant hand signals to a female in his company.

It happened quite fast really, the female ran swiftly and in front of all assembled attempted to kidnap the Duchess. Merci was at a loss? What should Umbra do? She was a Warlord, should she allow such a thing happen or would Ceinwyn wish the Duchess be rescued? Molly surely must have good reason for being there. Quickly sending word to Ceinwyn of the events Merci sprung into action pursueing the Lady Molly's Kidnappers. Ceinwyn soon arrived herself commanding them to be stopped and the Lady Molly released, free to go home...

The assailants were taken into custody and the Duchess was free'd from their clutches.

It was indeed a rare moment to find Umbra defending the Duchess, but Merci knew that there was always more to it than meets the eye.
