The cold, dead air infilitrated the slender nostrils of Janus. The algid breeze stung somewhat, but the scent dragged memories from the deepest of cells in his brain, cells imprisoned for nearly seventeen years. He closed his mystic grayish blue eyes for a moment- images of the exile flooded his mind and he clenched his fists at once. Several years passed through his mind in but a few seconds...

Umbra stood as the pinnacle of existance in the realm of Malas. It appeared to be a golden age to the citizens, all rejoicing for the prosperity economically, spiritually, and politically. The Necromantic brotherhood, lead by Mardoth, had begun to obtain their power, tightening a grip on Malas and securing a sort of temporary peace with the forces of Luna. However, it was behind the scenes that this prosperity was falling. The noble houses of Umbra, in this case, House Denweir, had suceeded in their campaigns in the West, and were called back by Brotherhood. The family had secured an outpost, and now were able to obtain much money from the rich, unobtainable ores of this area.

Bedaar Denweir, the current Head of the House, retreated with his close companions. Janus, merely a boy of sixteen years, remained at the ore outpost. Several days passed and Bedaar had not returned. Janus' father, Cadaen, brought his sons, Janus and Jakob, back to Umbra. Cadaen seeked an audience with the brotherhood, but before he went, rumors circled the town of Bedaar's and the Denweir Circle's deaths. The Brotherhood, lead by Mardoth, had murdered the head of the House Denweir. Mardoth made a public announcement of the exiling of the House Denweir, for their treasons against the Brotherhood.

Fearing proscription, Cadaen returned to outpost with his still young sons. The remains of the House retreated and scattered into the Corrupted Forests. The House built a home and camp there, where they lived, plotting for their vengeance. It was over time, however, that the family was lost to the grip of the dark woods. Family members began disappearing, some went insane, committing mass suicide. His father perished and it was the last true memory of these dark times he is able to recall.

The years following are sporadic, edged on by the comatose like state Janus entered after malnutrition. The images are like a puzzle yet to be pieced together. All that is known is that the spirits and darkness of the forest overcame him, but for some reason, he lived. Seperated from his family, he survived somehow. The faint whispers of a demon known only as Abaddon spoke to him over these years, keeping him alive. Abaddon began to take charge of Janus' mind and body, and soon, the memories fade to complete blackness. Whatever natural conditions the human body had, Janus was unaffected by age entirely. An uncertain amount of time passed.

Somewhere along the road, Abaddon lead Janus back to Umbra...

...He opened his eyes slowly, a bit dazed. He glanced down the road, to the dark stone roads of Umbra. The crimson and ebon colors of the city seemed to shine eternal as he marched slowly and casually back into his homeland. It was the light in the dark for the lost.
