Toni awoke the morning after the meeting, her eyes still red and swollen from crying. What had come over her husband? Sanctus was their home, these people her family. She clutched her pillow tightly, feeling the tears beginning to well in her eyes once again as she recalled last evenings events.
Following Morus’ outburst in Castle Blackgard, she began to cry in front of the king and queen. As much as she loved the kingdom dearly, she had sworn an oath to her husband and could not break that oath. The king heavy heartedly, released her from duty. Toni hung her head with tears running down her cheeks and silently left the castle.
She slowly walked back to her home and sat for a while in her study thinking.
“I must go to visit Alma again,” she spoke softly to herself. Alma her long trusted friend and mentor would know what to do.
Toni rose from her chair only to sit abruptly back down, her head swimming. The room seemed to swirl around her. What was going on? She felt a nauseated pull in her stomach and breathed deeply until it passed. She would ask Alma about this as well for she was a unique healer and could fix any ailment.
Once she was able to steady herself, Toni cautiously rose from her chair again. Certain the dizziness would not return, she made her way down stairs.
Her husband was no where to be found following his exit from the castle, and she worried once again what he was up to. She would not look for him as of yet. She knew her husband was off in contemplation and would return when ready.
She called for her charger and mounted up. She would ride to the woods north of Britain to seek Alma. She opened her book of spells and spoke “Kal Ort Por”. She found herself on the northern edge of Britain. The woods were large north of the city, but she would find Alma, she had to.
Toni rode north, weaving in and out of the trees checking the gypsy camps in case she was there offering her services. Finally she located her not far from the shrine. Alma smiled up at her as she approached and quickly frowned when she saw the pale look to Toni’s complexion.
Toni dismounted her charger and ran to Alma, hugging her close, the tears falling again uncontrollably.
“What is it child? What troubles you this way?” Alma held Toni close and spoke soothingly to her while stroking her hair.
Once again the nausea and dizziness overcame Toni and she fell to her knees. She could feel her stomach beginning to heave as she fought to control the nausea. Alma knelt beside her to rub her back gently. “Toni, my child, how long has this been happening?” Alma questioned her with utmost concern.
“It is just recently I have felt this way,” Toni looked up at her, her face white with a ghostly pallor and her eyes glossed from trying to fight the feeling she had deep in the pit of her stomach. “I believed it to be stress, Alma, for it began this evening after my husband asked to be released from the kingdom of Sanctus.” Toni’s tears had begun to streak her cheeks again. She was known as a compassionate woman, yet fearless as well. She was not one to be overcome with emotion such as this. She explained what had transpired in the castle.
Alma frowned, “This is not of the normal for your husband to abandon his post, but I’m sure he has his reasons which he will confide to you in time. Come now let me have a look at you” Alma laid her bedroll out just beneath a tree and asked Toni to lay so she could have a look at her. If possible some herbs would be able to help her feel a bit better. Alma looked her over and furrowed her brow, frowning for but a brief moment, and then smiled softly to Toni. “All will be well, dear child. Where is your husband now?”
Toni looked up at her confused, “Morus has gone to think I believe. I haven’t seen him since he left the castle. What is wrong Alma? Is there any remedy to what ails me?”
Alma chuckled softly. “I’m sorry my dear only time will heal this ailment. You must go home to your husband, and you must relax above all else. And I would strongly recommend you stay off that mount of yours for a little while.”
“I don’t understand,” Toni questioned her.
“Oh, Toni, my child. You are with child. This is the reason for the stomach ails you have been feeling.” Alma smiled down at Toni and extended her hand to help Toni to her feet.
Toni was taken aback by the news, but Alma was her most trusted friend. “And what of the swirling in my head?”
“This too shall pass my dear. Now go, you must return home and rest well. Don’t let me hear from others that you have been out hunting on that mount.” Alma gave her a stern look. “You have become a wise mage, Toni. Use these spells you have learned to help you in days to come.”
Toni nodded slowly to her. She hugged Alma tightly, “I shall send word then when the time draws near. You must be there Alma, you are important to me and so shall you be for my child”
Alma smiled and stroked Toni’s hair once again whispering, “Go now, you must tell your husband. Everything will work out.”
Toni stepped back a little from Alma and spoke the words to carry her back home. Morus was still not about and this worried her. She wanted to go search but Alma had warned of her going out on her steed.
“Perhaps he will come home soon.” She said softly to herself. This was quite the news she had from Alma, and wanted to share it with everyone. Then remembered she was no longer part of the military of Sanctus. Her eyes began to fill with tears again and she hastened up the stairs to her bedroom. She lay awake crying on her bed, for how long she did not know. Eventually her eyes grew heavy and she closed them, only to sleep restlessly…… _________________ Lady Toni McStravick-Skyfire

After many days away, Morus returned to McStravick Manor in Sanctus. He approached the door and paused a moment. How would Toni react to seeing him like this? Would she be able to live with the change in him, were the thoughts going through his mind at that moment. He opened the door and stepped inside, not a sound was heard through the house and for a moment Morus thought the worst, he thought that she had left him and gone back to the forest from whence she came. Morus quietly walked upstairs to their bedroom and slowly opened the door fearing the room be empty, but there lying in bed fast asleep was his loving wife, the sight of her beauty brought a smile to his face. He walked over to the bed, sat down beside her, moved a lock of hair form her face and kissed her forehead. Toni stirred a little and a smile creased her lips. “I am home my love” said Morus. Toni opened her eyes and blinked a few times and opened her eyes again “Morus!” she screamed and wrapped her arms around him holding him tight. She then leaned away from him, gazed into his eyes and tears began to well up in hers. She then began beating Morus’ chest and sobbing. Morus stood up and looked at his wife, tears were streaming down her cheeks “what is wrong my love?” he asked. Between the sobs Toni replied “You… everything…. nothing.” “Speak to me my love what is it?” Toni steadied herself, looked into his eyes again and started to explain, “While you were missing I went and paid a visit to my old friend Alma.” “And how is your old friend?” asked Morus. “She is doing well” Toni replied, “And why did you seek her out?” Morus asked. “I needed her to see her I have been feeling dizzy and nauseated as of late. “Are you ok my love?” Morus asked. To which Toni replied “I will be my love but I’m not sure about you.” Morus looked at her “What to you mean my love?” “I am with Child Morus.” Morus looked into her eyes and in one swift motion lifted her into his arms and spun around in a circle, He then set her down on the bed knelt down and gently kissed her. “Have you told anyone my love?” “No my love but some may suspect.” “I must tell everyone. This is a great day indeed, the first McStravick to be born in many moons. Will you come with me my love?” “No my love I must get some rest for the baby’s sake.” Morus smiled at her and kissed her gently once again this time laying a hand to rest on her stomach “A McStravick you will be he whispered.” As Morus headed for the door Toni said “I see we have much to talk about,” referring to the kilt and sash that he was wearing, not his customary armor. “But I will leave that for another time.” Morus walked about the Kingdom a great smile on his face and chest stuck out proudly. There were many congratulations and of course some teasing, even Queen Saidhe’ herself asked Morus if the child would wear pants. To which he gave that same reply he gave all others who asked. The child is of the clan it will wear a kilt. _________________ Morus McStravick
