The wind outside was howling and driving the snow all that much harder but inside the mouth of the cave, comforted by the warmth of a fire, sat Morus staring into the flames. A great war hammer by his side, his armor lay in a heap on the floor of the cave, battered and in dire need of repair; his falcon found itself a high perch to sit and watch. Watching the flames stirred up many emotions within him, tears streamed down his face and he was visible shaking not from cold but from the frustration of not being able to focus his thoughts. Not since he was a young boy had Morus had this much trouble controlling his emotions or focusing his thoughts. Morus looked away form the flames and to his hands covered in the blood of cave trolls, orc, and ogre. Morus sighed at the sight of them but at the same time something within him enjoyed the mere sight of them. Upon his arrival at the base of this mountain he had fought his way up to this cave at times even looking for a fight. Back to the flames Morus’ eyes wandered, once more within the flames he saw the faces of friends long gone, he saw his father and remembered the day he found his father laying on the field of battle dying… an orc dagger thrust in his chest and the last words of his father “Carry on the clan name me boy”. “I will father I swear it”. His thoughts then turned to the day he wandered in to Stormhaven lands as a young man and was in awe with the great Citadel and the Knights of the Kingdom. These noble men and ladies welcomed him with open arms and for the first time in a long time Morus felt a sense of family after all his clan was broken and scattered his kin all slain by orc. His thoughts then shifted to the great divide of Stormhaven and the events leading up to its’ collapse. Morus turned away form the flames and gave his head a shake, shaking out the last remnants of those visions. Movement caught Morus’ eye and without a thought his hand was reaching for the war hammer, it relaxed a moment later when he saw it was just a mere field mouse looking to warm itself by the fire. He stared at the mouse for a moment and then realized what had just occurred. The warrior instincts of his clan were returning to him. Why could he not see this earlier it would certainly explain his mood as of late, his thirst for battle, the uncomfortable feeling of wearing armor as of late, and all the emotions tumbling through his head. Morus looked to the war hammer, it would also explain why of all his weapons he chose to only bring the hammer with him when he left. He remembered the many battles he fought and the championships he had won with that hammer, the feeling of power he had when he crush the skull or chest of an orc. He thought a moment longer “I will reform my clan” Morus said to himself. He stood and turned to pack up his things but stopped in his tracks “I will need friends” he said. “Friends that will do their best to limit my lust for battle” Morus sat again and took out two pieces of parchment and his pen and ink and began to write two messages.
To Leshok
My old friend I do hope this letter finds you alive and well it has been to long since we have spoken to each other. I write to you now in hopes that you will help me my friend your voice has always been a voice of reason and I need it now more than ever. I will only tell you this seek me out in the mountains north of Britain. The way will be clearly marked. I will wait here no more than two days for you if I have not received word or seen you then I will leave this place and return to my wife with my news.
Your Friend and Brother
Morus McStravick of Clan McStravick
To Lord Gailan
My brother I do hope this finds you. I do not know if you have returned to your home or not but I am in need of your council. Please if you receive this seek me out in the mountains north of Britain the way will be clearly marked.
Your Friend and Brother
Morus McStravick of Clan McStravick
With that Morus tied the messages to his falcon and whispered to it “make hast my trusted friend” and let the bird fly. Morus turned back to the fire it was burning low he pulled his cloak tighter leaned against the cave wall and fell asleep. _________________ Morus McStravick

Gailan sat in his window alcove reading a book. Content on life is it was. He had a beautiful wife and his love for her was all that he needed. Since his retirement he had done nothing much other than hunt and organize some things in the house. At Mallory's beckoning of course.
A Falcon landed beside him, Gailan knew it to be Morus's falcon. Reaching over and untying the small letter , gailan released the falcon. Gailan opened the letter and read it . A slight smile had crossed Gailans face as he said to himself..." Just what have you gotten yourself into now old friend" With that in mind Gailan stood and walked inside. He walked over to a chest near the bed , opened it and took out his armor. Placing his armor on , he could not help but think what it was that Morus would need his council for. Alas Gailan would go and find out. He walked over to his desk and pinned a note for Mallory ,
My dearest Love,
Morus McStravick has ask to see me. I will not be long . I will return soon.
Be well M'love,
Gailan
He sat the note on the bed and turned to leave. He glanced over his shoulder at the bed with the letter on it . He hated to leave Mallory with such a small letter she would worry. But he had given all the information he had recieved. Turning toward the stairway out the door and pull himself up onto his steed, Gailan began his journey to Brit Mountains. He said under his breathe as he kicked his Stallion into a trot, "This should be interesting".................... |

Mallory stirred slightly in her sleep and rolled over, only to find the bed beside her empty. She noticed the note and read it quickly and with a soft smile and laugh shook her head. What are these two up to? she thought to herself. She climbed out of bed and quickly dressed, and decided she would go and see Toni. Perhaps she would know what these men were up to. She went to the stables and readied the trusty mare that Gailan had given her as a wedding present, and made her way towards McStravick manor... _________________ Good friends are like stars. Leshok picked up the letter from his friend and read it over carefully, letting out a sigh. "So Morus, you need me again, I am oath bound ever to you my friend, I shall come." He picked up his pen and wrote to Morus.
Morus,
Old friend and mentor, I will always come to your aid as I swore upon the kingdom stone of Stormhaven ages ago, I shall find you friend.

Morus sat by the fire it had been two days since he had sent word to two of his closest friends that he needed council with them. Leshok and Gailan would be here soon he hoped after all he had made it easy for them to find their way to him a trail of Orc, Cave Troll, and Ogre lay strewn through the pass to his location. Morus stood and walked away form the warmth of the fire out into the blowing snow, wearing only the kilt of his clan and the sash of his father and war hammer in hand. The bitterness of the wind did not seem to bother him in the least. With a steely expression he gazed through the blowing snow down the mountain pass. He could make out the silhouette of two figures trudging through the snow but something else caught Morus’ attention up high a ledge on either side of them movement “Frost Ogres” Morus said to himself and went into action. He did not run towards his friends instead he climbed his way up the slope on the left leading to the bigger of the two creatures. Morus made it to the ledge to late as he did his friends passed underneath and the Frost Ogres leapt form their prospective perches one landing to block their retreat down the path the other stopping any further movement forward… Morus’ friends were trapped. They quickly stood back to back turning in a circle to fend of any advance from their attackers. Morus watched as the two Frost Ogres taunted his friends and grunted at each other. Through the wind it was hard for Morus to hear but he could make out some of their broken words; seems these two Frost Ogres were blaming his friends for the blood that has been spilt on their sacred mountain and demanded theirs in return for this act. Morus’ blood boiled his warrior instincts took full hold of him in that moment and he launched himself form the ledge war hammer leading the way and letting out a primal roar “For the Clan!” Morus roared as he came crashing down onto of the largest of the two Frost Ogres startling even his friends. Both Morus and the Ogre fell to the ground form the impacted Morus roared through the pain and charged in again as his friends stood motionless not fully understanding what was happening to their friend, the second Ogre had turned on its heels and ran. Morus swung for the Ogres head but missed and in turn was sent away by a blow form the Ogres massive club. Morus knelt on his hands and knees seething with pure rage, his friends moved to his aid and he turn a firey gaze on them, “No!” he roared stopping his friends in their tracks. He turned his firey gaze to the Ogre and spit blood at it. Seeing this the Ogre advanced thinking it could deliver a killing blow to its prey. Morus roared again and leapt form his hands and knees into the air war hammer over head and with all his strength brought the hammer down on the thing’s head. Followed by a thunders crack of bone as the hammer met the ogre’s skull stopping it in its tracks. The ogre fell lifeless to the ground Morus forced himself to his feet after the landing walked over to the corpse and began repeatedly swinging his war hammer hitting its skull. Blood and brain matter splattered everywhere, pieces of bone went flying and all the while Morus’ firey gaze never left his victim; he could control his rage no longer the blood of his ancestors was now running free though his veins, he was a clansman once again. Leshok and Gailan cautiously walk up to their friend. Gailan reached out to place a hand on Morus’ shoulder, as he did Morus turned form the corpse again hammer ready to strike, Gailan only lowered his head respectfully to his friend as was his way, Leshok looked at Morus and simply said “I told you I would come old friend”. The sight of his two friends sent Morus falling to his knees blood flowed form his nose he was spiting up blood and his side was badly bruised. “Come my friend let us get you out of the cold and tend your wounds were is this cave you’ve been waiting in” Morus pointed up the pass; his friends helped him to his feet and led him back to the cave. After having his wounds tended to Morus and his two friends sat around the fire not a word was spoken for a long while Leshok and Gailan only sat and watched as Morus gazed into the flames as if in search of something. Morus nodded and began to speak “My friends I am not the man you once knew.” “What ever do you mean” replied both Leshok and Gailan almost at the same time. “Both of you have known me for quite a time and know I have always fought an inner battle.” Gailan lowered his head. Morus stood up adjusted his kilt and sash. “I am a clansmen right though to my bones always have been. I see this now as clearly as the sun shines on a mid summers day, I cannot, nay I will not hide this fact any longer.” “What will you do now?” asked Leshok. “ I will reform the Clan of my ancestors Clan McStravick will grow strong once more we will hunt we will wage war we will drink and we will fight in the old ways. I ask the two of you, two of my most trusted friends help me, help me teach those who join my clan the ways of honor of Knights and Paladins and to help me hold on to what honor I have left for I fear the warrior spirit within me may guide my thoughts and my hands when it should not. Gailan lifted his head and looked to his friend. “Morus will you return home your wife? I am certain she misses you and worries for you, I am sure many do.” Morus stared at his friend a moment as visions and thoughts filled his head of the last time he spoke to his beloved wife. He had been very harsh with her, spoken to her as he had never done before, leaving her with the choice of following him or remaining a part of the Kingdom surely breaking her heart. “Aye my friend I must return to her side and explain my actions to her.” Morus began to pack up his camp, Leshok asked about his armor “Should you not be taking this with you?” Morus only gave him a shrug as if it mattered not and continued to pack up. When all was in order the three friends left the cave and walked out into the storm outside a new adventure was beginning for them. _________________ Morus McStravick

Mallory returned home from the McStravick manor a bit worried. She had gone to speak to Toni, but found no one there at the manor. There was no one in Sanctus that knew where to find them. She arrived back home and there was no sign that her husband had returned. What in the world was going on.... _________________ Good friends are like stars. Toni had once again gone in search for hear dear friend, Alma. There had to be some way to quell the nausea she had been fighting as of late. Unfortunately the tea and herbs given to her by Audrina had lasted but a short time before she once again felt ill.
Several times she had tried to go for short walks, but each time she had to return home for fear of letting her dear friends in Sanctus see any kind of weakness from her.
Her husband had returned home and she had struck him for making her worry so. It was the first time she had felt like striking him. But he had left...he made her leave her kingdom. She was so confused and this did not help how she was physically feeling. She had raised an eyebrow to him due to his choice of attire. The winter months would soon be upon them and he wore barely anything. A simple kilt and sash.
Softly she explained what Alma had told her of her feelings. At first Morus seemed to not understand, then a smile stretched across his face. He had lifted her up and spun her around. The dizziness once again swarmed her. He gently placed her back in bed, kissing her gently.
She knew he would go out and tell everyone he saw.
Finding Alma still near the shrine north of Britain, Toni asked for help with her ailments. Alma provided her with more herbs and advised the tea Audrina had given her would help if she continued to drink it when she felt ill. Knowing of Toni's enjoyment of the elven wine, Alma warned her to avoid it. Not good for the child she was carrying now, not to mention the effects it would have combined with her present ailments. Once again Toni promised her she would heed her advice. Speaking softly, she cast a spell to carry her back to her home.
She set to putting the items Alma had given her away until they were needed and slowly crept up the stairs. Her husband again was not home. She still was not clear of what he was up to, however once she was feeling a little better she would find out.
Toni slipped under the blankets on her bed, pulling them up close to her chin, and closed her eyes to rest. Perhaps she would feel better after a nap and maybe head to Luna to do some shopping. _________________ Lady Toni McStravick-Skyfire

Gailans horse snorted as the sun went down and the breeze began to pick up and the snow began to fall. He was riding along side a man he'd never met . Gailan met him along the road going in the same direction so he picked up a conversation with him. His name was Leshok and he was searching for Morus as well.
They had started up a mountain trail just north of Britian when Leshok spotted a gruesome sight. There were about a dozen ogres and trolls sprawled about. Limbs were missing and all dead. Leshok looked to Gailan and nodded with a smile. Gailan just lowered his head and continued his climb. The way that the beasts were killed bothered Gailan. He knew Morus and knew him to be an honorable warrior. Could this be the trail that Morus told him of. Gailan knew it deep down inside that it was. Kicking his mount , Leshok and Gailan started up the mountain.
It was not long after that the snow picked up. Leshok had slowed abit because the footing was getting slippery. Gailan pulled back and looked over to Leshok and asked if he wanted to stop for the night. Leshok shook his head and said " No friend, What ever it is Morus needed them for must be important ." and with that Leshok nodded ahead. About 20 feet infront of them , just before a bend in the trial there lie another half dozen Ogres and trolls. All torn to pieces as the others were. Gailan turned back and nodded with a grim expression.
Around the bend the wind slowed down and snow started to slow. Leshok made a sound . Gailan turned to look at Leshok . Leshok raised his hand to stop. Gailan stopped and noticed just how quiet it had gotten. Leshok had pulled his weapon out and Gailan had pulled his sword out as well. About the time they were to set off again , there was a noise from about. Gailan looked up to see two huge frost ogres jumping down on from the ridge just about them. I pulled my mount over to Leshok and we started to push forward to take on the first frost ogre. At that moment we heared a scream from out of know where and a man came down from the same ridge. Wearing only a kilt and a sashe . It was dark and the man came down on the first Ogre hard and fast. The Ogre was dead before it even knew what hit him. The second rushed past us , charging the man. The man stood and turned toward us . It was then that Leshok and I both noticed who this man was. It was Morus McStravick. he was covered in blood and had a look of a wild man in his eyes. It seemed that he didn't even notice us . Leshok and Gailan both made a move to help Morus out . Morus turned with a crazed look and told them both "NO !" .
When it was done Leshok just looked at Gailan like he wondered who this man was. Gailan , with a somber look, said " Come , let us see what this is all about. "
When we came up on Morus he just stood , stareing at us like he didn't know us. Then slowly he smiled and came over clasping us both by the shoulders. "Come" he said " let us get out of this weather so we can talk" With that he led us up to the cave he was camping in. Once inside Morus explained to us what was going on. Gailan looked up after Morus was finished and said " I have been there for you for a long time. I will be there always. My house is yours Morus McStravick you are like a brother to me. I'll stand beside you and help anyway I can. " Morus smiled and looked to Leshok.
They gathered there things that evening and left. Morus to his home and wife. Gailan told Morus before they parted ways that he would tell Mallory what was going on and that they would both visit with them soon. With that Gailan grasped Morus's shoulder and said his farewells. Then walking over to Leshok , "Thank you for the company along the road. I count you as friend. Well met. " And Gailan turned and left.
Although only gone for a fortnight , it seems months . Although tired and should stop for the night. Gailan pushed on , wanting to get home to Mallory and their warm bed. Gailan lowered his head and pushed his mount harder........... |
