|
I can't afford a character name change, but I want to use the Norture character, all his skills are done and he's scrolled out. I've altered the appearance of the character by going elf and back, the character looks different and unrecognisable as being Norture. Given the character was somewhat well known, is it okay to say his IC name is something different than the blue floaty name over his head? |

I've done it myself, with Drayek. It's just Norture has a bit more reputation than she does ;(
I'm concerned about it effecting roleplay. |

I think at first some might slip up and forget, but I'm sure just like Drayek, it will be no problem. |

That's exactly what I'm worried about, that I'll encounter the same stuff as I did with Drayek, such as people arguing 5 minutes with my character about what her name is (since apparently she doesn't know her own name!). I fear about just how bad it could get if people argue with my "new" char that he's really a lich lord ;( |

personally I ignore the blue letters above peoples heads. I know a lot of people who use different names for thier characters. Its unfortunate that you have had to deal with people who would argue with your character. But if you changed his appearance, change the persona, and put his new name in his profile maybe that owuld help avoid the issues with some? hmm *thinks about this some more* Ill come back if I think of something else |

If someone godmodes your name, they are a substandard roleplayer. There is absolutely no excuse for reading someones name off a healthbar, journal, paperdoll, etc, and using it in game.
However, you have a unique problem. People will remember Norture IC'ly and might recognize him, new character or not.
The namechanges are only 10$ on ebay, by the way. I coughed up ten bucks for Sin'vraal, and I'll do it again soon for another. But if you really don't have it, I'd just make it as known as possible that the character is NOT Norture, have a profile that details what you did, and don't get angry if people run up and recognize you as Norture; You are inconveniencing them, not the other way around. Not that its a large inconvenience at all, but, its just reason not to get mad, like you do when people confuse your Dragoona characters |

I just soulstoned the skills and deleted and restarted a char to change a name...the soul stone token fragments were cheeper at the time...its a suggestion as an alternative. _________________ "Knowledge is not information, it's transformation."

The char's powerscrolled already, which makes it inconvenient. |

If you are still looking for this like a month later..
I had a free name/server change on my account from way way back when. I'm not sure if I can do it, but if you would like the name change I can try paging a GM and asking for a token instead of the page I'm supposed to give. Or you could sit there with me and I could ask him to change your name, and you confirm it.
Not sure if those would work, as I never got a 'code', it was just written in my account notes. Offer is open, though! |

Aww, thank you! I'm going to decline though, I won't be in UO for much longer. It'd be sort of a waste since the namechange'd be for RP reasons. |
