During the earliest part of the age of darkness, the stranger shattered the gem of immortality and slew Mondain the wizard. With the shattering of the gem, a greater evil was unleashed as thousands of shards and three smaller gems were conceived. The three gems, which contained the essence of hatred, falsehood, and cowardice, were finally capable of wreaking havoc on the world. However, their power was held at bay due to their proximity to the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom, which was being held in a temple nearby. Years later, the Stranger who became the Avatar found the Codex, which was then brought to the surface of Britannia by the Great Council. This caused a great volcanic upheaval, in turn creating an vast underworld, where the gems lay scattered, beneath a newly formed island.

Recently, four adventurers descended into the Great Stygian Abyss (Doom), where they came upon the three fragments of the gem. With the codex no longer limiting the power of the gems, they took the opportunity to obtain power; forcing one adventurer to kill the other three while under their influence. From the blood of the murdered adventurers they created physical forms, incarnations of their own true natures. Upon killing the fourth adventurer, they set out to corrupt Britannia in their image with the aid of the Riders of the Abyss.

Chanting could be heard from echos from darkness. The riders trampled along the night knowing what had become. They were not alone soon their brothern would come and then redemption. Echos of nothing...echos of fate...echos...all echos from the void beyond. You could almost see a smile as Halas steped through the gate and entered his masters chamber. "sir...our brothern are ariving as we speak..." "aye, go tell the riders our day is at hand all of Brittania shall hear our call..Balance" The prophecy shall be completed. Inkari spoke smoothly. "so the shard was found how intresting?" Inkari thought to himself.

Balthazar strode swiftly into the Riders Den, "Marsha a Drink!". Bal jumps up on his favorite bar stool, next to the free Shochu, and procedes to unpack his favorite pipe made from a Wyvern's bone. He notices the bar wench looking at him unfavorably after emptying the now ashed contents of his pipe onto the tavern floor."You know i'll clean that up" giving her a sly wink. As Bal packs his pipe full of Nightshade and strikes a flint, he goes over todays meeting with Inkari in his mind. Marsha hands him his drink and asks "what are you looking so happy about?". With his trademark grin Bal answers "Balance"

Their first target was one of the great bastions of the virtues; the city of Sanctus. The Shadowlords set out immediately, spreading their wave of corruption as they traveled through the ether that connects every point of Britannia. They arrived in the City of Virtue during what appeared to be a sort of formal gathering; at which time one of the three went forth and spoke to the people of Britannia.

The shadowlord paused for a moment, then continued:



"nox axi-múr! in-korp vas--áilem! Know this citizens of Britannia: soon your precious world shall burn in a wave of hate and destruction like none it has ever seen. All who dare oppose us shall fall..."



With that declaration, the Shadowlords, through the use of some form of arcane magic, made the area erupt in flames as they left together through a moongate.

The Shadowlords attacked Moonglow in an attempt to corrupt Honesty.
Many of the townspeople tried to repel them, but lost their lives in the ensuing carnage.


A coalition of warriors formed a second wave and raided the Riders and Shadowlords' position. The resulting battle was chaotic, with many deaths on both sides.
However, due to the valiant efforts of the brave warriors of Britannia, the Shadowlords were repelled and the virtue of honesty was saved.
