Kaelthir sat on her bed in the Umbra inn, leaning against the wall and massaging her weary eyes as she reflected upon the last few months. Her body ached from how little she slept, and what little sleep she managed to achieve was filled with horrific visions and nightmares. At times she felt terrified of what was to come, any hope of escape now impossible. Her very soul was marked and cursed by her research. She understood this as the consequence of her actions, and would spend time to remind herself of her goals and how close she was to them.

Ever since finding ancient books in the ruins near Umbra her body changed. The first book she found held a warning, if the reader were to read past the page they would become cursed. Kaelthir accepted this sacrafice, knowing were she not able to find a way to save her soul she would be damned anyways. Only days later with Bailos's aid, she discovered the spellbook of an ancient lich. She knew the spellbook was far beyond her capability in both reading and casting, and attempted to skim through it very carefully so as to prevent herself from going mad, dying to the residual energies of the book, or any of the other arcane diseases caused by learning something far beyond one's level. Yet even with only reading a small number of words on a page she found her mind becoming faint, and ended up taking several breaks during each session of reading. By the time she found the ritual she sought, her body had become sick.

She knew this was her responsibility, though. She was one of the few left who could read the ancient language in which the spellbook was written. The only other she had discovered who was capable of reading it dared not hold the key position in the ritual-- partly out of fear. It would be divine will if she survived the casting, however she did not see death as an issue to worry about. Should she die, her soul would find peace, and she would be with her parents once more. She thought back to her childhood and her father's praise as he taught her, she knew he would be proud of she succeeded with the ritual. All of the pain she suffered now would be worth it.
