Poppy took a pinch of the powder, put it up to her nose and sniffed lightly. In moments her head was swimming and she thought she saw several two-headed purple and red fish with bulbous eyes floating outside the window of the Inn. She shook her head a few times, blinking, and the ludicrous scene finally vanished. Looking down, she reread the paper that the Innkeeper had given her instructing her about its use:

"Use sparingly! This is imported and expensive tenderizer!

Do not inhale, taste, or swallow any of it at any time!

Rub only raw meat with it! Wash it all off before cooking.

Keep this away from children and unauthorized persons!

You are responsible for this supply! If you lose it or use too much you will have to report it to the Magistrate and she will not be happy!"

She crumpled the paper, placed it into a pocket of her apron and began sprinkling the powder over the meat. Tonight would be the first time she would be using it, and, she was told, it was to be a feature of the dinner main courses; something that would be making visitors, and native Papuans alike, coming back again and again to the Inn, begging for more.
