A few days earlier....
A Strathnavarian Scribe arrives at the home of his Lordship Baron Mordegan carrying several fragile parchments.
"My Lord I have deciphered these maps that you acquired from your fishing expedition and I have determined they have been ingeniously created and coded at the hands of a master. The creator has taken great pains to hide whatever lies at those locations." explains the scribe as he unfurls the maps on the great table within the main reception hall.
Baron Mordegan leans over the table and looks at the maps.
"I do so love a good mystery" smiled the Baron, "Thank you Scribe you have done well."
The scribe nodded and slightly bowed and took his leave. Baron Mordegan gestured to a senior house servant and said "Have a ship crewed, provisioned and ready for departure at a moments notice."
The Baron rolled the maps and placed them in a vellum tube which he placed securely in a sea chest within his study.
"I wonder what awaits?" He thought as he continued on with his daily work. _________________

Peering through the looking glasses, Lady Godiva wistfully watched the waves lightly crest against the pilings as she awaited the team Baron has gathered together at Britain Docks. She had to admit a certain air of mystery surrounded them, he had told her very little and allowed her just enough time with the maps to pinpoint their destination. In her past experience with such ingenious maps the creatures guarding its treasure were very treacherous, vile and deadly. Sighing softly to herself, she motioned Baron over asking a few brief questions regarding the night. It had been a long time since he had requested her presence; she was looking forward spending the evening with a longtime dear friend.
As they conversed lightly of provisions and other items they might need for the trip, one by one, each team member arrived. Baron politely made the introductions for those unfamiliar with one another while readying the boat for a smooth sailing across the dock to Eiffel Island. Many had questions of what strategy would be best to insure success in our mission. As Baron was explaining his expert knowledge of such, Godiva spotted an elven male intent on making his attendance known. “What does she know of such things, surely she does not possess such knowledge, she is but a wench” spouted Gryphon Magefist. Baron leaned over whispering, “Might you know this person” She shook her head from one side to the other slowly, “No, I do not believe that I do”. He retorted to the young elf, “Please refrain from calling the lady a wench, unless of course, you do not wish to join us”. The elf closed his mouth, but held a defiant look that spoke through his eyes. Godiva chuckled to herself, making note to stand near him on the boat and keep watch ore him, lest he cause trouble for the others.
Baron began orchestrating the sailors for departure with his bellowing voice shouting orders. “Prepare the sails”, “Raise Anchor”. After the last of the crew stepped aboard, the plank lifted and the wind caught the billowing sails, they were off for adventure. Godiva lifted her face upwards; the fresh sea aroma soothed her, the mist of the sea ticked her nose. She could not shake the feeling that something exciting was going to unfurl before their eyes, something spectacular! Gripping the sides of the boat, she held on tight as the waters became a bit turbulent and focused on the island coming into view. |

The evening was crisp and clear. Chandra had watered her plants and flowers. She sat down to make a list of things needed at the Yew Abbey for the orphans when a pigeon flew to her side. She read the message and prepared to travel to the coordinates written within the note.
Upon arriving she was greeted by friends and strangers alike. Baron Mordegan and Lady Godiva were among the few she had spoken to before. They were heading out to find hidden treasures. The maps had been acquired and Lady Godiva would be using her skills to find and dig the mysterious contents.
Chandra was watching over Lady Godiva as she put spade to dirt at the location of the map. Chandra had witnessed the hideous creatures that sprang from the depths of the earth to keep the treasure for themselves. As the creatures began to unearth themselves Chandra would throw a spell of hiding over Lady Godiva to keep her safe while the Baron, his warriors and other fighters of the realm would slay the creatures one by one.
The creatures came in groups to try and over power the fighters but to no avail. The mighty warriors in the group fought bravely and slew them before they could harm even one person there.
Lady Godiva collected the many treasures from the chests and was given help loading the pack animals brought along for such a purpose. The Baron was pleased at the might of his warriors and the riches that would be distributed among the treasure hunters this night.
When the pack mules were loaded with all they could bear the hunters retired to a small tavern in Buc’s den. As Chandra watched the hunters drink toasts to their success an elfin man walked close to her and held out something he had been eating. She started to smile at his having offered when she saw that he held out a cooked pixie leg. She shrank back in horror and walked quickly away from him. He followed and kept offering the half eaten pixie leg. Chandra could stand it no longer and told him to take it away and to leave her be. She thought he was a disgusting man and tried to stay far away from him the rest of the evening. Lady Godiva and Lady Piers had also seen and spoken to him. Lady Godiva called him Gryphon . Chandra had no use for him or his name.
The hunt was a great success and the Baron was pleased. Chandra grew tired and begged leave for the evening in which she was granted and thanked for her participation.
She left the hunters to toast late into the night, hoping for another adventure soon. |
