Dharzhal rose slowly from the bed, wincing from the throbbing pain that still emanated from the damaged bones in his back and ribs. Nizzre helped him stand up straight. They both could hear the sound of Maggy's singing downstairs. "Does she do that all day?" Nizzre asked in the drow tongue. Her father smiled and nodded. "Beautiful, don't you think?" he replied in common. Nizzre shook her head. It was clear from her expression that she thought very little of human ways, creeds, and singing. "I think you need to know that I have been blamed for the death of Alicia," she said, matter-of-factly.

He stared at her. "Alicia? Dead?"

Nizzre nodded. "So the story goes. I did not touch her. Would that I had! I will tell you the "official" story when we get home."

He sighed, then put his extra clothing in a backpack and slung it over his back carefully. Looking around to make sure he had not left anything, he nodded to his daughter, "Let us be going," he said.

Nizzre opened the door for him and together they went downstairs.

Maggy met them in the lounge. "Good morning!" she said with a smile beaming on her face. "I'm glad to see you are back up on your feet... not that I minded... oh nevermind."

"I want to thank you for all you have done for me. I can never truly repay your generosity with gold. I want you to know that if you ever need a friend, you have one in me. You have only to send word and I will be here for you," Dharzhal promised. He reached out with his right hand and placed it gently on her arm. "Aluve," he said softly.

Their eyes met. A wordless exchange took place. He saw in her a woman whom he knew could love and give love without condition, one worthy of a man far greater than himself. She knew he might have been the one she had been looking for, and waited for, all her life. She was first to break eye contact by lowering her head. "I... I will miss you," she said, tears welling in her eyes. "Please do not be strangers," she said. "It can be lonesome around here sometimes."

Once outside Hunter's Lodge Dharzhal cast a gate travel spell and, as Nizzre stepped into the blue portal that soon appeared, gave his faithful host a respectful nod. "Assanque," he said softly, then followed his daughter.

From what he had told her about the drow language, that meant, "As you wish." She knew then he would be coming back and it made her glad. She waved goodbye and then went back to her duties, singing all the while.

She walked to the window as they road away. She was still humming a little ditty, a little celtic sounding tune when she realized that she was not alone. Sitting on the bush outside the window was a skittering hopper. It seemed to be listening to her tune and making that clicking sound in time to her rythem. She smiled softly and continued folding the towels for the coming night's guests.

She came across a stained one and set it aside. She realized it was on that she had used on Dhar when his wounds were so bad. Her humming stopped as she thought of that night and her shock at the injuries that had been inflicted on him. How could anyone do such a thing to another living being. She didn't understand it at all. She thought to herself that he was such a nice man and picked up the towel subconciously and held it to her stoking it gently. Setting it aside, she picked up the pile of towels and distributed them to each of the rooms in turn, humming the same tune as before.
