Britain was bustling with merchants and customers, as they sat upstairs in a small room above the Alchemy shop. Tabitha positioned his head back slightly, draping the sheet across his chest. His long brown hair flowed over her arm, as she combed through it. She chuckled to herself noting the tense look upon his face, the razor reflecting the light that shown down on them. It was that time of year when Porthos sheered his head from the winter’s mane revealing a soft shiny scalp. She was looking forward to seeing this transformation unfold; personally she thought a shaved head very attractive.

Of course, they had an audience for this unbeknownst to Porthos. The girls wanted to witness this event; they might even have paid an admission had she charged. She threw them a look as they crowded behind the curtain in the corner, alerting them to hush their whispers and giggles. She had to hush her own chuckle as she saw Jaden, Cat Lyxen, Marissa, Scribble, Piers and a few others with hands covering their mouths, silencing their laughter.

Abruptly turning focused on the task at hand, leaning close to his ear, she whispered, “Are you ready, sweetie?” His eyes met hers giving the impression of calm and cool, but his voice wavered at bit showing his reservation somewhat. “As I’ll ever be, I guess”, his hands clenched the sides of the chair. The sound of ‘snip, snip, snip' echoed through the room. Little by little each lock of hair fell to the floor slowly revealing a exposed head, she smoothed her hands against it, “My, my! We can get rid of that pesky crystal ball now; perhaps I can sway you to give me the answers it will not.”

He chuckled remembering the few times they sought the ball’s wisdom and her frustration with its coy insinuating banter. Following her lead, he reached up covering her hands, moving them back and forth in a circular motion, “Ask me something, ” he teased. Grinning she replied, catching the girl’s interest, “Oh crystal ball! Do you think this man here is truly sincere in our courtship! Twirling him about in his chair towards the curtain, she motioned the girls to appear, all witnesses to what he would say. There he sat proudly smirking, wearing his new look once again, as he uttered with a roar, “Eat at the Blue Boar!” The look on Tabitha’s face, a mixture of humor and fury equaled the response from the girls as they cackled and roared. They loved the teasing banter these two usually engaged in. Porthos moved a bit further from her fearing what she might do with the razor still in her grasp. Knowing he had once again bested her, she put the razor on the table, leans over planting a kiss on the very top of his head.

Porthos sat quietly on the stool in the little room watching Tabitha as she sharpened the knife and made the lather to shave him. His mind drifted to when he had made mention of his spring shave to remove the locks that kept him warm through the cold Sosarian winter. She had eagerly asked him if she could perform the task and without hesitation he agreed. Now as he sat awaiting the blade he was nervous and pondered the possible need for medical attention in the very near future should she slip. He smiled as she approached and began. Her touch was soft and gentle. He felt the blade but never the sting he feared. His mind wandered again to how they had worked so well together through many battles on and off the field, the meals she had so carefully prepared and all the many things she had done to take care of him since they met. Porthos thoughts were only disturbed by a subtle touch tilting his head to one side or the other and before he knew it, Tabitha stood smiling before him and said she was done. He ran his hand over his now barren scalp, and finding no blood or missing spots of flesh, he smiled at her. She never ceased to amaze him and what came next shook the very foundation of his world. Tabitha looked down, scuffed her foot across the bearskin rug and shyly stammered, "If you are pleased, I.....I would like to shave you myself from now on." A lump formed in Porthos throat as he agreed. He knew this was about more than just his haircut and his mind went immediately to making plans.
