He waited patiently on the edge of the mountain range, just south of Sanctus, in a spot where he had a complete view of the Secret Garden. He soon realized no one was about and he made his way to the front door. Using the key gifted to him he slowly crept inside. The house was still under renovation and not much for furnishing was yet present.
Where oh where?, he thought tapping his chin with his index finger.
Looking aroud he realized the most obvious place was the large stone table. She's bound to find it there. One could not help but notice something prominently displayed on the table.
He moved over to the table and placed a small bunch of flowers down, pleasently arranged around a book. Looking at the arrangement for a moment he made a slight change by opening the book to face the reader.
Anyone who glanced could read...
To my Valentine Mallory
"Come, pretty birds, present your lays,
And learn to chaunt a goddess praise;
Ye wood-nymphs, let your voices be
Employ'd to serve her deity:
And warble forth, ye virgins nine,
Some music to my Valentine.
"Her bosom is love's paradise,
There is no heav'n but in her eyes;
She's chaster than the turtle-dove,
And fairer than the queen of love:
Yet all perfections do combine
To beautifie my Valentine.
"She's Nature's choicest cabinet,
Where honour, beauty, worth and wit
Are all united in her breast.
The graces claim an interest:
All virtues that are most divine
Shine clearest in my Valentine."
And learn to chaunt a goddess praise;
Ye wood-nymphs, let your voices be
Employ'd to serve her deity:
And warble forth, ye virgins nine,
Some music to my Valentine.
"Her bosom is love's paradise,
There is no heav'n but in her eyes;
She's chaster than the turtle-dove,
And fairer than the queen of love:
Yet all perfections do combine
To beautifie my Valentine.
"She's Nature's choicest cabinet,
Where honour, beauty, worth and wit
Are all united in her breast.
The graces claim an interest:
All virtues that are most divine
Shine clearest in my Valentine."
- Smiticles
Satisfied with the way things looked he spoke the words for a sacred journey and made a hasty retreat from the scene of the crime. |

Mallory returned home from placing an order with the carpenter in Luna, so that the house would be complete by the weekend, and when she did she noticed the door was unlocked. She shook her head at her foolishness. While on Legion Island she may not have had to lock her front door, things were certainly different here. None the less, she looked about the room to make sure nothing was out of place. She immediately noticed the flowers and the book on the table and her heart skipped a few beats. She chuckled as she thought about how it was now Smiticles that had been trespassing, and the thought of him here in this very room made Mallory's cheeks flush with pleasure.
She leaned over and smeeled the sweet fragrance of the flowers, and decided she would leave them where they were, for all to enjoy them when they entered the house. She went to the kitchen and prepared herself a cup of warm tea, and she took the book, and made her way to the private balcony of her office. She sat on the balcony and read the verse that had been left for her, and it brought tears to her eyes. What had she done to deserve this man, she wondered to herself. She closed the book and held it to her chest and took a deep breath. Everything in her being told her that this was right, and her happiness could not be described.
She looked at the book again and contemplated on whether to deliver Smiticles' gift now, or make him wait. She decided she would deliver part of it, but she would make him wait for the rest. With that she finished her tea and made her way to Riverrun. She listened carefully and being sure there was no one about she made her way towards the house. She nearly lost her heart in her stomach when a man poppoed out from the side of the house, but Mallory quickly recognized him as one of the local wandering gypsys and she nodded her head quickly to him and made her way inside. She looked around the house and noticed her previous gift had indeed been found. She decided to place the book of prose next to his own writing desk, so that when he arrived home in the evening, he would notice it. She looked again at the poem...
I love thee - I love thee!
'Tis all that I can say;
It is my vision in the night,
My dreaming in the day;
The very echo of my heart,
The blessing when I pray:
I love thee - I love thee!
Is all that I can say.
I love thee - I love thee!
Is ever on my tongue;
In all my proudest poesy
That chorus still is sung;
It is the verdict of my eyes,
Amidst the gay and young:
I love thee - I love thee!
A thousand maids among.
I love thee - I love thee!
Thy bright and hazel glance,
The mellow lute upon those lips,
Whose tender tones entrance;
But most, dear heart of hearts, thy proofs
That still these words enhance.
I love thee - I love thee!
Whatever be thy chance.
She quickly signed her name with the nearby quill and ink and blew it dry. Fearing she had heard footsteps on the porch she closed the book and quickly journeyed away back to finish the preparations for part two of the gift... _________________ Good friends are like stars.
