|
Claudette immediately noticed a note on her door as she walked up to her house. Her heart skipped a beat as she read the words Melior had written. Although her heart was much stronger now, seeing a note from Melior brought the heartache back. She thought about Melior often and wondered if he ever thought about her. She would always love him, she knew that for a fact, just as she knew that she would never love anyone else in the same way. She was surprised at the fact that he had now become active Sheriff of Sanctus. It made her a little nervous to know that she may run into him for she truly did not know what she would do or say in his presence.
Making her way to her writing desk, she pulled out a sheet of parchment and decided to write a quick response.
Dear Melior,
Thank you for stopping by and leaving a note on my door. Congratulations on the Sheriff position, I'm sure the citizens of Sanctus will benefit greatly with you watching over them. I am well, especially now that things seem back to normal and Brianha is back safe and sound.
Claudette paused for a moment. She wanted very badly to tell Melior how much she missed him and that not a day went by that she didn't think about him. She knew such things were best left unsaid and so she continued.
May you always find happiness and be safe,
Claudette
Claudette quickly sealed the letter and rode into vesper where she would find a messenger to deliver the note for her. _________________

As the messenger approached, Melior knew without a doubt who the letter would be from. Claudette. Logically speaking, she was the only person who wrote to him.
Reading the letter, Melior almost flinched. It was very formal. He tucked the letter into his pocket and proceeded to patrol the city.
Later, that evening, he sat down in the jail, and penned a letter to her.
Dearest Lady Claudette,
Tis good to hear that your worries are put to rest over your cousin, Lady Brianha. A lovely woman such as yourself needs not the stress of worry. I have been more stressed than usual, as well. The process of trying to fill Milord Arakad's boots and perform in his stead has been a new experience for me. I hope I do not let Milord Spawn down.
As far as the prince of Sanctus, may the virtues enter his heart! He is quite a rambunctious little fellow, in dire need of a nurse-maid. Mind you, a nurse-maid willing to deal out a firm beating, now and again! Practicing his firefield spells on the tavern!
On a sadder note, my horse, the wonderful Astalder, decided that my promotion was his passport to freedom. I came back after my appointment to duty, to find that he had quit. I have taken to riding a ghostly armored horse.
I miss you, Claudette. I hope life is treating you as you deserve, as I never did. I think about you every day. Why, just the other day, a young lady named Zeyla came to the tavern. She has a way with animals, as you do. Her hair and coloring brought back memories of you that I treasure. At least as Sheriff, though temporary as it is, I will be able to have a closer hand in preventing that which befell my family.
Love Always,
Melior
He folded it neatly and stuffed it into an envelope. Mounting his steed, he rode to Luna to post it for delivery. _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |
