Standing atop a nearby roof, Corzan silently stood vigil, watching as the Hunter's Lodge final customers left, a few staggering. His hair whipped around his face, his mouth covered by a mempo, and his deep hazel eyes watched below him.
I have to do this, I cannot let it by any longer...
Hopping down from the rooftop, he landed softly on the cool, moist grass. Peering around him, as to make sure he was alone, he slowly unwrapped the cloth package he was holding.
For you, my love, so that you may always remember me...
Within the cloth, shone a bright crystal ball. Whenever he gazed into it, a different sound of Sosaria would come forth. Few remained, and they were sought after by many.
Slowly walking up the all too familiar steps of the Lodge, Corzan slowly opened the door, and peered inside. A candle here and there flickered gently, and the moon shone through the western windows.
Such a beautiful evening, a shame we cannot spend it together, My love...
Silently stepping his way upstairs, and finally to the teleporter, Corzan emerged on the third story of the Lodge, and made his way for Maggie's bedroom door. Listening closely that she was asleep, he delicately turned the handle, and opened the door.
It is said that we are the most beautiful when we are asleep. So placid, unafraid, and unaware of our surroundings...
Stepping to the side of her bed, he removed his mempo, and slowly leaned down towards Maggie.
Know this, My love. No matter how far apart we may be, know that my love to you is eternal...
He gently kissed her forehead, and stood up slowly. As he did, a single tear rolled down his cheek, and for once, perhaps he appeared human. Turning around, he placed the cloak-covered singing ball, and his mempo on her nightstand, and left a small note next to it. It read:
My Dearest Maggie,
The time has unfortunatly come where I must leave you. My travels will take me far and wide, but you shall always remain in my thoughts, my heart, and what is left of my tortured soul. I pray that you will do the same in yours. Until we finally gain eachothers company again, I bid thee, farewell.
Always loving, Always watching,
Corzan Sigismund.
Turning around, he made for the door. Before he left the room, he turned around one more time, gazed upon Maggie. Another tear rolled down his cheek, and he slowly closed the door. Walking out of the Lodge, he peered upwards at Maggie's room, sighed, and began his journey... |

She had taken to staying again at the lodge when Nico was away. It just made sense. The danger of the vampire had disapeared. He had not been seen in months. She came and went at ease from Nicos to the lodge, shopping and visiting family and friends. Life was back to normal. Nico had been away for better than two weeks with notes from time to time to let her know he was fairing well. She read his most recent letter and tucked it under her pillow just before she blew out the candle by her bed at the lodge. It was lonly there when he was away but he would be back in a day or so and they would be together again in the beautuful bed he had bought them on one of his trips to the elven lands. Those thoughts lingered as she drifted off into a secure and sound sleep.
She did not hear him enter the room or leave it nor did she stur when he kissed her forhead. For a moment in her dreaming mind she smiled believing she was in Nico's arms as he kissed her forhead before sleep for the night.
She awoke before dawn to a strange glow near her bedside. It was parcially covered by something but the light seeped from under it. She moved the covering to reveal the glowing ball. She had thought she had heard the sound of birds of the morning. When she opened her eyes there were no birds on the window only the glow from under the cover on her bedside table. She blinked afew times and as she sat up the ball made the sound of a cow mooing...How very odd...where did this come from...*blinking again still half asleep* Nico? She called out in the darkness thinking he had come back early and it was a present from him. When he did not answer she sat on the side of the bed and looked again at the ball and noticed the note there and another piece of cloth near it. She picked up note and examined it. There was a recently dried spot on the envelope. She lit the candle as the glow from the ball was not near enough light to read what the envelope said. It was then she realized the black cloth was a mempo and her hands began to shake. She looked at the handwriting on the envelope and recognized it. Her eyes darted around in the darkness trying to see if anyone was still lurking. She opened the letter and began to read. |
