Claudette couldn’t keep from looking down at her hand. Specifically her ring finger. Melior had given her the most exquisite emerald ring when he had asked her to marry him. He had done so before, unofficially but had been working hard to get her the perfect ring and had wanted to do it the “right way” as he put it. As they sat at Hanse’s hostel and shared a delightful meal, she was a little surprised when he handed her a beautiful green picnic basket. As she opened it she found yet another picnic basket and when she opened that one there was yet another one inside. She began to laugh and looked at him only to see a very eager look on his face. She finally got to the final basket, in which she found the ring he had bought for her. It was then that she noticed that he had stood up and was kneeling on bended knee next to her. She smiled as she listened to his beautiful words and looked deep into his eyes.

She loved him with all her heart and had been feeling sad because they hardly ever saw each other. She knew that Melior was working hard for their future and that his duties as a guard were important not only for them but for the protection of innocent citizens. She only hoped that soon he would have more time to spend with her. When he asked her if she would do him the honor of becoming his wife, she leapt out of her chair and hugged him tight. With a resounding “YES” she kissed him deeply.

It was then that she noticed that the other patrons were watching them and smiling. Some were even clapping and a few women offered their congratulations. They were all so nice and immediately began to offer help and services for the wedding. They took her to a beautiful chapel named Odyssey’s wedding chapel and showed her around. Claudette was elated but also a bit overwhelmed. She knew the day would come when she would be planning her wedding but with Melior being so busy and away so often, she hadn’t thought it would be this soon. She continued to look down at her hand as she was taken on a tour of the chapel. Melior seemed pleased with himself but seemed to be stepping back so as to not get caught up in all the “girl talk”.

After she had thanked the women profusely and said her goodbyes, Melior took her to another chapel he knew about near the hunter’s lodge. It was also a very serene and beautiful place but Claudette didn’t get the same sense of excitement from that one. Melior had left it entirely up to her to plan their wedding. He wanted her to be able to have the wedding she’d always dreamt of and as a typical man, pledged to not know much about such things and that he should only be given the bills.

He had promised to show her one last place so that she could then start making her decision. He had to report back to his guard post but he assured her that it wouldn’t be long until they would be together again. As they hugged and kissed she told him how much she loved him and how happy he had made her. She talked of how lucky she was to have him and he insisted he was the lucky one. After stalling a bit and kissing some more, Claudette finally sent him on his way with a bag full of peaches.
