Mallory had a wonderful evening with Claudette and Brianha discussing the latest developments of Brianha's memory loss. It appeared that Drayden had found some link to a certain crystal that was held only by the deamons of Fire Isle. The trick was going to be obtaining it. Mallory had been ready to go get it that evening, until Claudette mentioned that it would be heavily guarded by the deamons that made Fire Isle their home. Mallory had only been there once, and she didn't welcome the thought of returning anytime soon, not alone anyhow. She had casually asked Claudette if perhaps they shouldn't ask for help from others, such as Lord Smitticles. When she mentioned his name Claudette smiled and remembered she had a message to deliver from him asking about the well being of Mallory. Mallory's heart skipped a few beats with the realization that he had asked about her. For the remainder of the night she could barely keep her mind on the conversation. It wasn't long before Claudette and Brianha excused themselves for the evening and Mallory rushed home and pulled out a piece of parchment.
To Lord Smitticles,
I hope that this letter finds you well. I am writing on behalf of a mutual friend, Lady Frasier. I recently found that there may be a link found, but it lies on an island inhabited by deamons. It is our hope that you would be available to assist with the recovery of the item. Please let me know when your schedule would be available so we might meet with Lady Claudette and Lord Drayden and others to further our knowledge about this possible link.
Thank you for asking about my well being. I am well, although this mind loss of Brianha has me puzzled. I have never seen a mere slip and fall do this much damage. Even men from the invasion that were injured have had some memories returned, but poor Brianha has had nothing. Another thing that was odd, was when we visited Lady Ceinwyn's home, there was not a bit of ice on the steps. Perhaps she had removed it, but it still seemed strange. I am not sure if I was the only one to notice this or not. I still do not know if I trust her, after our past history it would be difficult for me to do so. I am sorry if I appear to be babbling and rambling. I do hope this is something we might speak about also, since Brianha seems to not think anything ill of the woman, perhaps I am just paranoid.
In Virtue and Friendship,
Mallory Rowdep
She allowed the letter to dry and sent it with a messenger to the city of Vesper with Lord Smitticles name upon it with the instructions to leave it with either Lady Claudette or Lord Smitticles. _________________ Good friends are like stars. The messenger had little trouble finding Smiticles’ home. The tiny village of Riverrun sits on the west bank of the city of Vesper just across the bridge from the bank. Sitting on lands previously part of Lady Arcana’s Riverrun estate the village was well known by the locals. In particular, Smiticles’ house sits right on the small forested trail that heads towards the border of Minoc and that town’s moongate. As such many travelers between Minoc, the moongate and Vesper pass by his home.
The messenger arrived with little fanfare and Smiticles asked him to stand by and tossed him a few gold coins for his troubles. Turning over the envelope he couldn’t hide his delight at the origin of the missive. Once again he could feel her hand on his arm and he thought of the delicate touch she must have used in penning this letter. He was also very pleased to see that she was sincere in her efforts to help his friend Briahna. The contents of the letter (along with its author) lit a small fire within his eyes. Deamons…he mused. Oh how I love the challenge of Deamons.
Sitting at his desk he penned a reply.
My dear Lady Mallory:
It is so good to hear from you and I hope this reply finds you fair and well. I am very pleased to see such an effort you have made in assisting my good friend, the Lady Fraiser. I also understand perfectly your reluctance to take on this endeavor yourself and your request for my assistance. I would be more than happy to escort you there in your quest for this particular item you feel may help.
I know the Isle of Fire well and I can assure you the temple in question is no place for casual wandering. The Deamons that reside there are unruly to say the least. I must give fair warning, however, that they are not the only denizens of the temple. It seems those red devils prefer the company of a creature known as a Drake. Your travels and experience are really unbeknownst to me so I will let you know that the Drake is a smaller version of your typical Dragon. They are not a difficult creature but they can prove to be quite the burden when in combat with a Deamon.
Fear not though M’Lady for I have traveled down that particular road before and I can easily do so again. I have in my possession a wonderful broadsword and a sweeping cutlass, both of which have been blessed by the virtues for use in the slaying of these creatures. These weapons will greatly aid in our quest.
In closing I would like to say that time is of the essence for I fear our friend is in dire need of a cure. I would be willing to take up this quest as early as the eve of this Thursday. If you have a particular time you would care to meet please let me know by reply. I have paid this messenger a great sum to insure his speed and diligence of service.
On a personal note I would like to express my thanks for your kind words of reassurance the other night. You have brought me great peace in an otherwise upsetting time. I have thought about you many times and those thoughts have helped me maintain a degree of rationality to my behavior over this whole affair.
Your most humble servant
Smiticles Conall Cernach
He handed the reply and a bag of gold to the messenger and saw him off. Heading upstairs to his garden two thoughts crossed his mind with a smile. It will be good exercise to battle such challenging creatures once again but more importantly, I can show the lovely lady how brave and daring I can be! |

Mallory was in the Lycaeum in Moonglow. Lately she had been spending much of her spare time here trying to learn all she could about this illness that was plaguing her friend Brianha. She had spoken to her mentors at the healers in the town of Moonglow, but they were baffled as well. They suggested looking here for other possible answers.
Mallory was trying desperately to keep her mind focused on the book in front of her, but alas her mind kept wandering. She thought about different things, the deamons and her new friends Claudette and Brianha but mostly her mind traveled back to the gentleman Smiticles. She couldn't seem to shake him from her mind, and as much as she tried she wasn't sure she really wanted to. The memory of him looking down at her and the way he was so passionate about those he cared about made her smile.
She welcomed the messengers interruption as he entered the building. Her heart leapt at the thought of who the message was from. She eagerly opened it and read it her eyes widening at the thought of the deamons and these creatures called drakes. She had battled dragons and drakes in a place called Destard, and she would welcome him by her side in this endevor. She at once pulled a piece of parchment and carefully penned her reply...
Dear Sir Smiticles Cernach,
I thank you for your quick reply. I have been studying all I can in regards to our friend's ailment, but alas my searches have revealed little. I am led to believe that our only hope for Brianha lies in this quest. While I am very anxious to begin, even after your very detailed description of the horrible beings that dwell there, I am afraid it is Claudette that holds the knowledge to the particulars. I will immediately pen her a letter and request that she meet with us this evening at the Freehold.
In regards to the creatures of Fire Isle, I am afraid that I have little experience with the slaying of these creatures outside of the recent gathering of hides. I can assure you that I have been well educated with the sword, and if nothing else perhaps I can distract them with my cokking. You will be a most welcome companion during this excursion, and I truly pray to th Virtues that it leads us to what we seek. I look forward to seeing you again this evening.

Mallory Rowdep
She blew the ink dry and folded it neatly and carefully applied a bit of wax from the nearby candle. She smiled softly as she wrote Lord Smiticle's name on the letter and handed the letter to the young messnger standing nearby. She asked him to wait a minute more so that he would only have to make one trip to Riverrun. She pulled out a second piece of parchment and penned a note to Claudette...
Dear friend,
I hope that this finds you well and in good spirits. I have been spending a good amount of time here in Moonglow studying all I can in regards to our friend Brianha's ailment. I have found little more than ancient dust within these books and that I am afraid does not help us. I have written to our mutual friend Lord Smiticles and he has expressed interest in aiding us in the quest on Fire Isle. I would like to request a meeting of us all involved this evening at the Freehold so we might know what we are looking for. If you are available, please send a message to both Lord Smiticles and myself advising of a time that would suit you.
In Virtue and friendship,
Mallory
She sealed this letter with a bit of wax also and wrote Lady Claudette's name on the front and handed it to the young messenger along with a bag containing a loaf of bread, wheel of cheese and a small jug of fresh water along with a few of her famous cookies and wished him a safe journey. _________________ Good friends are like stars.
