Mallory finished her daily studies and although she was tired she decided to make her way to The Freehold and see if her friends were about. As she entered she was once again struck by the beauty of the new design. Mister Poet would be so proud. The thought of him brought tears to her eyes and she hoped that she also would make him proud.

She made her way to the roof and was happy to see that her friend Rryn was there. As she made her way to the table she noticed that Brianha was there as well as Ceinwyn and her friend Max. She rubbed her arm and frowned slightly at the memory of Ceinwyn, but she continued on her way to Rryn’s table. Rryn looked up and smiled to see her friend. They embraced quickly and settled into talking about Rryn’s marriage and Mallory’s recent training. They had not seen each other in quite a while, with Rryn’s new marriage and Mallory’s training. Before long Mallory noticed Brianha made her way to the stool behind her and she glanced over her shoulder to acknowledge the woman.

She turned around, smiled softly, and said hello to the woman. She had come to the decision that if Vaen was happy, then she would do her best to make this woman feel welcome. Brianha looked up and said, “Greetings, m’lady” as if she had never seen Mallory before. Mallory frowned slightly. If this Brianha didn’t want to be friends she didn’t see the need for her to be nice, but Vaen was her friend and if he saw something good in the woman she would make an attempt. Then again there was a time he had seen something good in that Ceinwyn, and Mallory looked over to see the drow woman speaking to Max and she shook her head slightly before looking back at Brianha. Perhaps the woman really didn’t remember her; after all she didn’t think she had done anything for the lady to remember her. She smiled at Brianha and said “No need for formalities between friends.” Brianha looked at her in confusion and asked “Do I know you?” Mallory noticed Vaen entered the Freehold and made his way over to them. She looked at him and back to Brianha. “We have met yes. I am Mallory. We gathered leather at Destard together… with the dragons.” Brianha looked at Mallory and asked her “What else do you know and what can you tell me? Do you know who I am to be married to? ” By now Mallory was very confused and looked around the table sure this was some sort of joke being played on her. No one was laughing and so she looked to Vaen. Vaen elbowed her catching her in the rib and she glared at him asking him what his problem was. By now she was getting frustrated and wanted the joke to be over. She looked back at Brianha and stated simply “You are a mage and as if you didn’t already know, your fiancé is standing right in front of you. I don’t appreciate being the subject of your jokes. I may not be the smartest girl, but I don’t think it is very nice to make fun of people, especially when they are trying to be friends with you.” She crossed her arms in front of her and looked back and forth between Vaen and Brianha. She was startled when Brianha suddenly burst out in tears and ran from the room. She was really confused and looked at Vaen who in turn looked to Claudette and asked her to explain, and then ran after Brianha. Claudette began crying and explained that Brianha had suffered an injury to her head after slipping on ice and couldn’t remember anything. Mallory felt horrible, she had seen this during her time helping the healers during the invasion. She had automatically assumed that they were playing with her the way others often had. She apologized to Claudette and reassured her that if there was anything she could do to help she would do all she could. Claudette thanked her and returned to talking to Drayden.

Mallory returned to the table and noticed Tai had joined them. She went over and gave him a hug, causing him to blush from head to toe. They spoke of the marriage and other things that Tai had wanted to talk to Mallory about. As it was getting late Tai soon excused himself, and not long after Rryn followed with the plans for the two of them to get together again soon.

Mallory returned to Claudette to say her goodbyes and noticed another gentleman had joined them. He looked familiar, but she could not put a name to his face. She sat on a nearby stool and listened as she heard everything being explained. When the fact that Ceinwyn was involved was mentioned she frowned and looked towards the table where she had been sitting. She was no longer there, but Mallory couldn’t help but shiver with the mere thought of her. She looked back to the group and noticed the man beside was getting angry. She remembered her earlier outburst and she gently placed a hand on the gentlemans arm and reassured him that Vaen and the rest of Brianha’s friends, herself included, would get to the bottom of everything. He looked at her and nodded slightly. He explained that he had a quick temper, especially when those he cared about were hurt or in danger. The way he spoke made Mallory believe he was sincere and not just looking for a battle. His words were sincere and he looked at her as he spoke, not through her as so many others had done in the past. Mallory smiled and again looked towards the rest of the group trying desperately to place the name with the man. She knew she had met him, but her memory of his name was failing her. She shook her head trying to get her brain to work. She glanced back at him quickly and looked at Claudette and Drayden. They were excusing themselves for the night. She said goodnight to them both and wished them safe journeys.

She turned to the gentleman and expressed her pleasure in meeting him and blushed as she admitted to not knowing his name. He introduced himself as Smitticles and immediately she knew she had seen him at some of the training sessions she had attended before she was a member of Legion. They spoke a little longer about the accident and how they could help their friend. She realized she wasn’t the only one who did not trust the drow woman, but they agreed that there wasn’t anything that pointed to her doing anything foul. Mallory enjoyed talking with Smitticles but she was fighting fatigue of an early day of studying and didn’t want to offend him by yawning. She soon excused herself but realized quickly that she had chosen the wrong teleporter. She flushed and decided to remain there in hopes that the gentleman would not realize that he had effected her thinking. She shook her head and thought to herself, it wasn’t him; it was the long day of studying and training. She nodded to herself and tried to calm her heart. After not hearing anyone else in the tavern she recalled to the house she was renting and after a long bath, she fell asleep very quickly.
