After a long day's worth of training, Vaen needed a place to rest. As beautiful as Nujel'm was, it wasn't home to Vaen. So he decided to head to his birth city -- Minoc.
Walking up the path past the gypsy camp, Vaen looked towards the mines. He saw many flashes and screams. Unaware of what was going on, he moved towards the river and teleported over. He then snuck behind one of the tents and looked in at the mine.
The mines were bustling. But not on free will. As Vaen glanced around, he saw several familiar faces overseeing the miners. He recognized a few of them from the Ebon Skull.
"...How did this happen?" Vaen thought to himself. "Why Minoc?"
One of the miners looked over at Vaen with a look of helplessness. The miner was silently crying out for help to be rescued, but Vaen was not able to help him. Vaen stood no chance against all of the opposing forces on his own. Especially after recently training his new profession.
Vaen nodded towards the miner, trying to give him a little bit of hope. The miner nodded back with a look of sadness across his face.
Shaking his head, Vaen recalled away, determined to return to his hometown and release it from the Skull's, and whoever else's, overpowering grasp. _________________
