Shock and awe.
The first two things Max felt when Brianha told him the news. Shock at the sudden disbanding of the Legion of Justice, and awe that what was, in the opinion of many, such a strong and well-known guild had fallen victim to a declining membership. Guilds such as the Legion are expected to last forever. Once the news truly registered, the disbelief settled in, but that was soon dispelled by a conversation with Vaen. It was true; the Legion of Justice and the Northern Alliance were no more.
It turned out to be another late night for Max. Another storm was raging outside, and the sound of the pouring rain and howling wind combined with the thoughts running through his head to keep him awake. Due to the weather Max could not sit in his rooftop throne. He decided sitting in his open air first floor near the old ALV guildstone was rather fitting for this evening anyway.
It had been a long time since the ALV had been “independent.” When they joined the Northern Alliance they were four friends searching for some guidance through Britannia’s political quagmire. The Legion of Justice proved to be excellent teachers in not only politics, but also in survival. The small band entered the Alliance with enough skill to kill Black Solens, but the Legion taught them the skill necessary to tangle with some of the Realm’s more skilled fighters and mages. The ALV had begun to mature.
“But where do I take the guild from here!?” Max yelled into the whipping winds.
A couple of jugs of water and several cheese wheels later Max had the answer he was seeking.
“We have never really had our own identity, and it is high time we did.” he said to himself. “I shall call a meeting of the Founders and present my ideas to them tomorrow.”
Even after his epiphany, Max could not sleep. His mind was still racing, and the storm was still blowing.
But, as the first filtered rays of sun brightened the thick overcast, they found Max……sitting on the floor, leaning against the old ALV guildstone, finally fast asleep. _________________ -Max of Vesper, Super Pally Perma NoOb. |
