Many days had she spent with Ragnar since his return. All the feelings that she had buried so many years go had surfaced complete and whole. They were as if he had never left. Even when he was unsure of who he was he still was the man she loved so many years ago and those feelings had never left her.
She had loved Martin but it was not the same and had faded as time went on and he had disappeared on his quest. She had felt so alone and unconnected with him in heart and soul. She had ached for something lost but it was not he.
When she saw Ragnar fighting in the Islands that night she did not recognize him at first but in Luna...It was him and her heart leapt like flames from dried tender. The embers were still there. The fire was kindled long ago and had lain dormant but there was no doubt she still loved him.
With Martin gone for so long she felt as if she could finally move on but this complicated things. She didn't know where Martin was or even if he was still alive. Life for her never came easy it seemed. Then at the trial he was there, alive and well.
Martin and she talked that evening. She did not know if Ragnar's feelings were the same for her but she knew that what she felt for Martin had faded with time and she could never hurt him by prolonging what was not to be. He told her of his quest but even so he did not seem to understand that she had fallen out of love with him. He promised to return in a week to speak to her but she had no idea if he would return since he had said as much in the past and not returned for years. At least this time he was only going to Trinsic.
Even in the weeks time since Martin had gone to Trinsic, Ragnar and she had spent hours and hours together. His heart was hers and hers was his. Even though Martin was not there he was still between them. She was honor bound to seek Martin out for she could never move forward with Ragnar without making things proper between Martin and herself. She still cared about him. She could not shame the vows they made by taking steps that were improper. He was an honorable man when he left. She just hoped that he still was that man, in spite of the many dark years in dungeons surrounded by evils beyond imagination. _________________ Grand Duchess Molly Kaldhel

Home, am I home? this was the thought most often in Ragnar's mind as he continued each day learning more about who he was. And discovering who was becoming. Yes he had found a home at Molly's side and with the House of Gauntlet, his heart remembering feelings that his mind couldn't place memories to. He grew more comfortable in his skin and in his home each day, even more comfortable in his uniform. He had stepped up, walking his path along side Molly, and been made Duke of the House of Gauntlet, a decision he didn't regret making.
Regardless of his past, his future seemed bright, and all he could do was smile and look ahead. _________________ "I am lost and found all at once, all i had lost, i've found, only to be lost myself." |
