|
The call had been made, Sir James M'real needed paladins to help recover the artifacts of the paladins of old. Leshok was not sure if he could be considered a paladin anymore, but he knew inside that the fact these artifacts were lost, was his fault. He had failed Stormhaven again this time, for the person whom he had trusted the keeping of the church with failed, then again, both of them failed, so its hard to say which one lost the artifacts.
Many gathered at the M'real Manor, and talked of the plan at hand to recover these artifacts. Leshok stood quietly and listened, speaking only when asked, or when he explained how the artifacts were lost. Soon the group departed, they would go to umbra, meet up with another paladin, and perform the ceremony to cut off the Ebon Skull from its communion with Oblivion, it wouldn't be permanent, but even a brief respite was good. After wards, James wanted to see the rebirth of the paladin council, to help defend the land.
They arrived near umbra, when an enemy scout found them and told them they were expected at Charnel hill and that The Skull had their paladin spy. We hurried to the hill to find poor Cecil beaten and bruised, but we recovered him and he showed us the way to artifacts. The gaunlets of light, the M'real family war hammer. With those in hand, and the tome of knowledge already in our possession, all that was left was the Sword of the Heavens, which was in the hands of the Death Knight, Zalar Soulblight, a fallen paladin. The sword had to be recovered, and Leshok was startled when James asked him to retrieve the sword from Zalar, in one on one combat.
Doubts flooded through Leshok's mind, was he good enough? His devotion to the virtues had been on a small descent since the death of Morus, and he didn't think he had the power to face this death knight. He looked to James who added "Will you honor us Leshok, and pry the sword from his hands" as he smiled, Leshok felt a small burst of courage, and went to face the death knight. As he arrived, Zalar was surrounded by CJ and his men from the house of Gauntlet, and was obviously not going anywhere, but he had the sword in his hands. Leshok approached the death knight and swore to him that he would take the sword from him. The death knight laughed telling Leshok he could not beat Oblivion here in its stronghold, light would fail.
Leshok shook his head and asked CJ to have his men stand down, and as CJ and his mean cleared away, all who were present formed a small circle around Leshok and the death knight. The battle began, the death knight indeed a fierce opponent, as they exchanged blows and words, each trying to disuade the other from the fight. Leshok talking of repenting, and allowing Zalar's soul to rest, the Death Knight mocking Leshok, and saying the sword was his. The battle grew more and more challenging as the Death knight's arm began to tremble, and he pressed on with the frenzy of a cornered badger.
Suddenly the sword fell from the death knights hands, as Zalar screamed that he could wield it, and picked it back up. The fight resumed, and Leshok struck the death knight's hand, causing him to drop the sword again. Suddenly Ivy appeared and snatched up the sword, handing it back to Zalar, Leshok could hear all around him as he watched Zalar try to re-establish his grip on the sword. Molly was praying for his victory, Bailos was shouting, scared for Zalar, CJ was shouting words of encouragement, and covering his ears, and the others words were muffled out by the sounds of sword meeting sword. The death knight suddenly paniced and ran towards the hill, but his path was blocked by Sir James himself. Soon Zalar was surrounded again, with a look of panic he ran into the woods, dropping the sword. This time though, it was picked up by Sir Robert and his dodo, whom handed the blade to Leshok.
Leshok could only marvel at the blessed sword, and felt something stirring inside of him he hadn't felt in a long time. James patted Leshok on the shoulder and gathered everyone atop Charnel Hill, and formed a circle around the skull that was used as The cults link to Oblivion. Zalar and Bailos could be heard panicing in the background, now powerless to stop what was about to happen. James lifted his family war hammer high, Lady Labelle was handed the gauntlets of light, as she held them high, and as CJ read the sacred words from the tome, Leshok lifted the sword of the heavens high. All of those who followed the light joined in on the ceremony, and soon it was finished, and you could almost feel the change in the air before you saw it with your own eyes. Zalar began to crumble in spots as he fled down the hill, Bailos began fade in and out of sight, as he too fled. Darrien Church stumbled down the steps, falling as he too ran. The slave Isil shouted words of revenge and ran as those of the light celebrated, but suddenly Ivy jumped from the shadows and stabbed James in the back and ran.
Everyone helped James out of his tunic and check his wound, it was nasty, but not fatal, nor crippling. Leshok helped James to his feet, and supported him as they walked through a moongate to The Golden Scales tavern to celebrate. Leshok was told he was to hang on to the blade, as Labelle was to hang on to the gauntlets, until it is best decided what to do with them. Leshok looked down at the blade, and felt within him, the warmth of the virtues which had been long lost. Again, he felt as a paladin. _________________ After all these years, I'm still putting up with Kuja and Vaen? whats wrong with me?

Valdor’s hands shook as he quickly turned the pages of the Book of Destiny. Eagerly, he scanned the strange writing of the Book, hoping that it would communicate with him again, like it had so long ago. If ever he could use the advice of the Book, it was now.
With mixed feelings, he looked back on the events of this fateful night. He had accompanied the many Paladins who had struck such a great blow against the darkness that plagues the lands of Sosaria, but it seemed a hollow victory. One of the Paladins on this quest had been taken by the darkness, corrupted by some curse that Valdor could not understand. Yet another lay weakened, poisoned by some dark means.
This of course brought back memories of Valdor's own curse, which had prompted the Knight to journey to Elysium to seek out the wisdom of the Book of Destiny. It had been the Book that had given him the information that he had needed to free himself of the curse of his father, Valdor was determined to try to save his fellow Paladin. Remembering that he had spent many hours confined in the room with the Book before it had spoken to him in the past, the weary Knight settled in for a long night of contemplation.
The long hours of the night slowly passed and eventually Valdor fell asleep on the floor, the Book beside him. When he woke up in the morning, he somehow knew that the Book wasn’t going to help him at this time. He sensed that the Book was awaiting someone else, and that it wouldn’t speak to another until this person arrived. How Valdor knew all of this, he didn’t even think about. He knew better than to question the powers of the Book, first hand, he had seen what it was capable of doing. He owed his life and his very soul to the Book, without it he would be no better than those they had combated the night before.
Realizing that he could do no more in Elysium, Valdor called forth his steed, Mular. It would be a long ride to Vesper, but he had to speak with the rest of the Knights of Sosaria, and he was too tired to attempt to use his abilities to travel there magically. The Paladin could sense dark times ahead, and he wanted to make sure that the Knights were prepared to join those who would combat the coming darkness. _________________ Lord - Knights of Sosaria |
