The preparations had been very lengthy, but at last they were done. Beowulf had spoken with the necessary people to continue on in his place, if something were to happen to him. Most did not understand and asked questions, others accepted it and let him be on his way.
First he had spoken to Tarothin, he informed him they would have to begin thinking of a new division leader for the Necromancers, just incase something were to happen to him. He also made sure Tatiana and his child was welcome to live in Dark Cove free of charge and protected.
Next was Poet, someone who was like a father-in-law to him. He had approached Poet and asked him to keep an eye on Tatiana and his child, incase something ever happened to him. Be what he couldn’t be, when he wasn’t there.
Then there was Jolicia, the General of the Brotherhood. Jolicia and Tatiana were like family, they had known each other longer than Beowulf had known most of his friends. She agreed to protect Tatiana and his child anywhere outside of Dark Cove. He gave her a permanent pass to wonder the area around his home, without charge or arrest.
Finally there was Tatiana this was the most awkward. He had taken her to the spot where he had first proposed to her. She was confused for most of the conversation for the fact that Beowulf kept speaking about if he was gone or not. He informed her that her life and their child’s life would be looked after. There safety would be more than it is now, and that money, a home, and life would be nothing to worry about. She assumed he was going to war, and was just worried whether he would come back or not. This was more than a war.
After returning home and putting Tatiana to sleep for the last time, Beowulf went and gathered a few things. Quietly creaking open their bedroom door, he tiptoed into his office. He slid into his stone chair and fell back against it’s sturdy back. He slid a piece of parchment in front of him and starred blankly at it. Next he pulled out a quill from the bookcase and dipped it in ink. He sighed in sorrow and slowly wrote his note, his note to those who cared.
Dear, reader:
It has occurred to me, that I’m sharing my body with someone other than me. This person is what some would call, and alternate ego. He is completely different from myself, and it is his job to vanquish people like myself, necromancers.
The man named Gerosh has caused my dreams, my pain and sorrow. He has over stepped his limits and boundaries within my body. For this he will pay, with his own life. In order to rid myself, and others of this other person, I must be rid of myself.
Tatiana, I have taken it upon myself to make sure your life, and our child is wealthy and safe. You shall be protected, and allowed to live in Dark Cove for the remainder of your life, safe and free of charge. It is to you, that I live our home, my soul, and my gold. I love you more than life itself; I’m not only doing this to rid myself of my on coming insanity, but to rid you of me being something different.
The Dark Order, you have been a family to me. We have fought together; we have fought against each other. I’m sure we’ll cross paths again, in the Underworld. Tarothin my friend, good luck with your body and your mind. Ditto, good luck with the devil child, I’m sure she’ll turn out fine.
As I stated above, in my absence I leave my home, my soul, and riches to Tatiana Thormear. I leave my child anything that he desires of mine. Anything else should be divided up as my family sees fit.
With my last written words, I bid you all fair well.
Sir Beowulf Thormear
Finishing up the letter he curves the “r” to wrap around the bottom of his name to underline it. Cleaning up the quill and ink he returns it to its original spot. Licking his thumbs he carefully rolls the parchment up and ties it with a black strand of ribbon.
Standing on his porch wearing only his armor, he holds the parchment in his right hand tightly enough so the breeze from the nearby lake doesn’t blow it away.

The other night at Poet’s he had spoken with a girl named Elly. It was her that explained to him that Gerosh was apart of him. During their conversation he placed his hands on the crystal ball on the table in front of them. He asked it if he would win his body over from Gerosh. It replied by saying,
“With the ways of virtue, it can be done.”
He never believed in following the ways of the virtues but now perhaps he could. The virtue called “Sacrifice” would play a hand in this epic battle for sanity. He would die before Gerosh took over his body.

It hadn’t occurred to him until he stood here, that killing himself would prove more difficult than he thought, for he couldn’t be killed. Looking out across Dark Cove one last time he started twirling the parchment in his hand.
“To be beheaded…” he spoke quietly. To his luck, just within the borders of Dark Cove itself was the machine that he used to behead trespassers, and citizens who didn’t pay their taxes. He tucked the rolled up parchment in the top of his leather pants, sticking out far enough for someone to retrieve and read.
He kneeled down on his right knee, supporting his weight with his left foot. Slowly leaning forward he placed his head inside the small hole, trying to find a comfortable spot. Locking himself in place he flailed his arms around a bit trying to find the rope to release the blade. His hand wrapped a wet a blood covered rope and gripped it tightly. He realized how poor of a way this was to die it wreaked of blood and seemed somewhat degrading.
He slowly tugged down on the rope as the pain shot through his temples. He shook his head slightly trying to fight it, but it was Gerosh’s time. He snapped his head back slightly, cracking his neck. With his last ounce or control he tugged down on the rope.
Gerosh opened his eyes for a split second, and realized he was stuck. Before he could figure out what was happening he felt a short pain in his neck. The head rolled off of the torso into the basket below him.
Beowulf Thormear had killed himself ridding his body of Gerosh, if he had only known that it wasn’t Gerosh causing his night terrors, or on coming insanity but a group of greedy paladin clerics. He tried as best as possible to create an easy life for his wife, and future child in his absence. The thoughts of how much grief and pain it would cause them had sat in the back of head since the first time he thought of doing this. Beowulf knew now that Gerosh could never take his body from him.
The clouds rolled across the night sky and rain trickled its way down. The water splashed quietly against the ground, and into the basket that held the head. The long white hair became dampened and matted against its face. It would be a few minutes, perhaps hours until someone would find his body. |

She had been by the docks of the town playing with a few of the local children and having cheering lessons. When Ditto started towards home, she was still yelling out cheers as she strolled down the street. Right as she neared the gates, she saw what seemed to be man, possibly a soldier from his garb, laying in tall grass to the side. Curious, she took a few steps closer and thought him to be dead to the world in dream. Perhaps whoever the man was had been drinking too much and passed out. Not wanting a guard patrol to come by and harrass the man, possibly even jail him just for napping, Ditto kicked at the man's foot and loudly said, "You there! Your na suppose ta be sleepin on duty!"
The man gave no response and his leg seemed a bit too stiff. The tall grass covered his upper body and was the reason why she couldnt see his face she thought. But, as Ditto took a closer look, she saw that the man had no head. Her eyes widened and she stood there a moment, just staring down at the body and hoped with all her heart that it was some mean criminal and not one of thier own...not a soldier. She screamed for the guards and ran out of the town gates straight to home, callling out for Tarothin, but only finding Imryrr. After finding out that Tarothin was busy elsewhere, she ordered Imryrr to stay inside the Fortress and ran back to town in hopes of finding a guard on duty.
Toren, a friend and ally, rode up on his horse to bid her good day and then, spoted the body. Ditto was talking to Toren of her findings when Tarothin appeared. He sent messengers to fetch another man and had almost had the body carted off to be dumped someplace when Ditto saw an odd machine with a bloody bowl near by. Looking into the bowl, she saw a head. A head that looked much too like her friend, Beowulf. She turned quickly to gain Tarothin's attention just before his order could be carried through and pointed down at the bowl, tellling him that it looked like someone's head. Tarothin walked over and picked up the head, holding it up for viewing. The head was indeed that of Beowulf.... _________________ **************************************

Tatiana had returned home to Darkcove to see if Beowulf had come home. An ogre was there and she ran to the city to get a guard to kill it for her. As she got to the gates, Mr. Tarothin was coming out of the gates. She yelled that there was an ogre chasing her, but Mr. Tarothin said that was the least of her problems, and turned and went back in the gates. Curious, and ever mindful of the ogre, Tatiana followed the leader of the Dark Order.
Inside the city, Mr. Tarothin pointed at something on the ground. At first puzzled and confused, because it didn't make sense. There was a dead body, but it was wearing the very armor she had made for Beowulf. Then reality slowly sank in and she realized she was looking at her beloved husbands body. All his troubled nights of sleeping returned to her memory.
"Oh Beowulf, I would have moved the world to help you, why did you do this to yourself, to me, to our child?"
Grief and anguish tore through her. Just as there was so much to look forward to, the new baby, a life together, and now he was gone. Waves of agony washed over her in those first few minutes. And then Mr Tarothin said the body needed to be buried.
Shaking herself loose from the awful pain, Mr. Beldon picked up her beloved and placed him on a pack horse. Tatiana asked for a gate to the place where Beowulf had proposed to her. It was such a beautiful spot and was a treasured place in her memories. A perfect place to lay him to rest.
The ceremony was short and attended by few, Mr. Tarothin, Miss Ditto, Mr. Toren and Mr. Beldon. Tatiana said a few words felt from the bottom of her heart and soul. She bowed her head and said farewell to her beloved, Beowulf.
After returning home, she finally realized she was holding the note he had left behind, crumpled in her hand. She had no heart to read it. Tatiana fell into exhausted sleep and as she drifted off, the words wavered in her mind, "Remember Tatiana, you are the keeper of my soul." _________________ aka: Tatiana Thorn nee Alexi; Summer Kane; Ivory Skyfire; and others |

Walking through his new keep, inspecting every corner, a message arrived. Waving the servant away to read, Tarothin frowned at the news.
It is just a body. Why is she troubling me for something that is found once and a while. Sighing, he walks over to the inner Dark Cove, and th elocation of Ditto staring down at the body.
After thinking how to dispose of the body so as not to litter the grounds of his town, Ditto pointed out the head in the bowl. She seemed a little squimish, so feeling agitated walked over to grab the head by the hair to take a closer look. Ditto scrunched her nose in disgust.
Interesting indeed he thought. "It is Beowulf." This will have to be looked into. It is not at all good that this had happened. The people responsible for this will pay dearly for killing a member of the Dark Order, let alone a high ranking officer.
After examining the mechinism of the make-shift guillotine and the rope near by, he discussed with Beldon, Toren and Ditto that he even possibly killed himself or made to look like it. Beowulf did come to him earlier in the week saying something about if he dies if he would allow Tatianna to stay within Dark Cove free of charge. Tarothin had agreed to it but wonder why...it was so...strange.
About to toss the head near the body he spotted a piece of parchment tacked to the body. Reaching down to pick it up he dropped the head so as to better straighten it out and read it.
The man was insane. Split personalities? Killing himself? After announcing to the onlookers that he had indeed killed himself and hearing their shocked expressions he handed the note to Ditto to read. It's his handwriting.
A few mixed emotions went through his body. Anger, disapointment, and even a little sorrow. He has opened up a little chaos within the guild by leaving the division without a leader. That I will have to put straight soon. He should have talked to us about this, we could have helped him.
Ditto piped in that it was selfish he took his life. And something about poor Tatianna...selfish indeed. He was in my service and given to him a rank of responsibility, and he kills himself? Tarothin's eyes glow a brighter red, seeing that his eyes have almost perminantly become the blood red of the daemon. Rather he died in battle...
Seeing dead bodies in general as well as many of them being soldiers is something that he has gotton used to a very long time ago. I will honor his request regarding Tatianna, Taro thought.
After announcing that he was going to get a couple of servants to take the body to Tati's house, no sooner had he went through the inner gates, that he saw Tati herself.
Leading her the way to her late husbands body, they after some time finally put the body to rest and Tarothin ordering a report from everyone recounting Beowulf's behavior for the past few weeks and what clues may lead up to the reason why he killed himself. |
