Servants moved from one room to the other running the various errands needed to maintain the memorial. The smell coming down the hallway was of roast pork along with the sweet aroma of apple pie. It was mid-morning here at the Charles Everblue memorial, traditionally the busiest part of the day.

However, standing in this room that had so many memorials to men of Sanctus, no sound or smell of the present could touch Zarlox. Lost in the conversations of the past he stood there in a dream state with a slight smile crossing his lips.

Countless encounters flashed through his mind. His days in Stormhaven when he had met so many men that would become more than friends and brothers in arms to him, but family. Eldred Jonas, Ragnar Teach, Alan Drogo among others. A chuckle escaped him as he thought of Sharic, and the mans funny, if at times uncalled for antics. His thoughts would flow to the first days of Sanctus, before the City itself was even built. Sitting in Trinsic with Talon and the others discussing the plans for the city they had all envisioned.

With a sigh he began to walk again looking at the shrines to the very men in his thoughts. There were of course several others that deserved to be remembered for their time and sacrifices in Sanctus.

“Perhaps one day” he said to himself

He could still remember the sound of their voices. From their joyous laugh at festivals to their battlefield cries, each and every one of them had been etched into his memory. A wave a sadness washed over him as he thought how nearly all of them had left the realm. He continued walking until he found himself stopped in front of the memorial to Talon.

Looking up at the memorial to his childhood friend Zarlox couldn’t help but laugh. It had been just a couple of months ago when he had stood right here with Talon himself. The two had joked about the day there would be memorials to them in this tower.

Several hours later Zarlox emerged from the tower feeling more refreshed than he had in recent memory. Preparing his mount for departure he smiled as he rubbed Valors nose.

“Don’t worry boy, there wont be a shrine in there for us for quite some time.”

As he mounted Zarlox began to think of the Future. The feelings he had for Sadira, the woman made him feel like a boy again. The counsel he would provide to Andreas Dragonbane, Talons heir to the Throne of Sanctus, whom Zarlox cared for as a son. Then of course the future of Sanctus itself and the many battles yet to fight.

Smiling as he rode off “Yes” he thought “Plenty to still do before retiring.”
