A character history (long):
Bailos was born many, many years ago in Minoc. His family lived in the woods, his father a lumberjack, his mother a seer, and he was the firstborn. Around the age of 8, Bailos’ home was ransacked by a troupe of bandits, capturing his mother and sister, killing his father, and leaving him for dead. As soon as he regained his strength, he chased the bandits only to be captured by them once more, then sold in to slavery in Magincia. His ‘owner’, a beleaguered old mage with a slight hump on his back, was named Aeroth. Aeroth was a brutal master, and owned many others that he kept at his tower. While there, Bailos picked up some magical skills and began to grow in his knowledge, while continuing to toil.
After many years, a spirit, a force appeared before Bailos while he lay in his hut, trying to fall asleep. The spirit offered him an out, if he let the spirit use his body as a vessel, the spirit in return, would grant Bailos increased magical powers and knowledge (so it told him). Bailos took the opportunity and the spirit entered him, giving new life to his powers and empowering him immensely. Naïve with his new power, he sought revenge immediately, and overthrew his captors, slaughtering them, and releasing most of his fellow slaves. What followed was a 5-year search for his mother and sister that led to the discovery, that they were of course dead. Pained and suffering, Bailos shut himself up in a tower with nothing but hordes of books, and his magical studies...This is when the hidden part of the spirits plan came in to effect…
For years, literally, Bailos sat in the tower, reading books, practicing his skills, and losing all track of time. He was never hungry, and rarely slept, and his poorly lit tower didn’t allow for him to see the passing of day or night. He sat there, growing in power, slowly, for nearly 230 years. When he finally emerged from the tower to test his strength, the entire world around him had changed. Everything was different, and he couldn’t figure out why. When he finally caught on to the time, he couldn’t figure out why he hadn’t changed, or aged, or feel hunger, or the need to sleep like he should. This was the spirits evil trick. While Bailos could most certainly die, he rarely felt much for pain when he did, and he simply shut his eyes as if he were sleeping, and then he’d pass away. Hours later, sometimes even days, he’d slowly wake up to find himself in strange locations, wearing different clothes, but strangely enough, still alive. He now wanders the worlds, cursed with this never ending life, trying to decipher what the evil spirit wants, why Bailos is ‘the vessel’, and how to increase his already insane powers. Slowly, over the ages, he’s learning more, reading books, collecting artifacts, and piecing together the past and making powerful friends, trying to finally put him at peace. |
