The massive stone building before her loomed above, but not threateningly so. The Abbey, though one of the largest structures ever built, maintained a a forceful yet benign presence. No doubt the architect's intention for housing the Candle of Love. That, however, was a long time ago. These days the lands of Yew were torn in halves, thirds and whatever else various people could get ahold of. The inherent unification of Love was now lost.
Dominatria stepped through the wooden framed arch, but was immediately stopped by a blue clad guard.
"What is your business?" he said increduously.
Dom was slightly offended by this. The lands she was used to being questioned in were those of necromancers and death knights, not sacred ground such as the Abbey. She then remembered the colors of bronze and red she bore, and so replied cooly, "One needs a reason to walk the halls of the building of Love?"
Taken aback, the guard stepped aside and nodded her through.
Two more guards stood in the doorway to her left, and through it she saw a familiar half-ogre. Just the man she'd been looking for.
Though she made no sound, he looked up quickly. No doubt a reflex from his days as an outlaw. She stepped past the guards and into the room, Arlin waving them back to their posts as they approached her.
"She ain't a threat boys" he said, smiling warmly. His once hard, ruthless gaze was now strangely friendly. Perhaps the rumors were true...
"Evening Arlin. I must say, your reputation... and guards... precede you. It seems you've built quite the army for yourself."
He chuckled a moment, unwavering in his warmth. "I ain't build it for m'self, I's jus tryin ta fight tha good fight. So're they."
She smiled and nodded, though only half believing him.
"So what're ya here fer?" he said abruptly. His social graces had not changed despite his new demeanor.
She appreciated his bluntness, and so replied with her own, "I've heard quite a bit on your work here, both for and against. I had to come see for myself."
He nodded, taking no offense. "So whaddya think?"
Dom thought a moment, so as not to answer untruthfully. She recalled her tour of Yew before entering Empath Abbey, and the Frontiersmen she saw patrolling, and the diligent guardsmanship at the trial she'd witnessed the night before. She thought back to the caravan his army had funded, bringing supplies to the people of Yew.
"I think you've done well, both for the people and Yew. To be quite honest, I see no reason for the vehement opposition you face at the hands of the Town Council here. In fact, their struggle for power seems nothing more than a farce, both of their dedication and riteousness-" she stopped, noticing his blank stare. She'd obviously lost him, but that was alright. She simply smiled and said, "I think you've done very well. So well that I would like to offer my services." _________________

Arlin blinked a bit. True, recruits were nearly running each other over to sign up for a tour of duty these days. But here was Dominatria, once the vice mayor of the great nation of Moonglow. And she was offering her services to him. Arlin shook off the shock, and leaned forward, smiling warmly.
'Aye, I could use yer services. In fact, yer timin' couldn't be better.' She was a skilled diplomat, and was in fact very similar to him. Arcana had been asking him to send an envoy to the Council. And the fact of the matter was, as good a general Arlin was, he was no mayor. If she could handle the Town Council, and help him run the town, she'd compliment the Army well.
'Dominatria, how would ya like ta be the Viceroy of Yew? I know ya can handle the Town Council, as well as the day-to-day affairs of the city. Whadda ya say?' She rubbed her chin, taking a moment to think. Then she smiled before responding.
'Sounds perfect. When do I start?' Arlin chuckled and slid a badge over to her.
'Now' he stated. She sat down, and they began going over thier plans for the city, and a list of concerns to present to the Council. _________________ As the fire fades to night, remember always the ember that started it all. |
