THE WAY NUMEROUS OTHER THREADS HAVE SAID IT SEEMS TO CONVEY ONE MESSAGE...
"WHAT ARE YOU DOING GM's!!!!"
As a GM of a guild I am taking this massive issue very seriously. Something must be done. I hear all the time about OOC drama, bickering, and fighting. I hear about issues with the ARPC rules. I hear about IC drama based more off OOC stuff rather than stuff strictly IC.
Anyone in the Army knows this but I think it applies very much to people trying to be part of a community and especially GMs. The Army values... so here they are and how I see how they should be applied to UO as RPers and us as GMs.
Loyalty - To your guild mates, GM, and to the community.
Duty - As a RPer it is your duty to follow not only to the rules of engagement and conduct but more importantly, the spirit of RP. To follow the spirit in which we as RPers follow and not to abuse it.
Respect - Very obvious.
Selfless Service - As a GM we should be the voice of the members of our guild and not instill personal issues into situations. We should put the welfare of the guild before our own. Leave personal grudges out and do what is best for the guild and the community. As guild members should help each other whenever possible.
Honor - This is a matter of living up to these sort of values.
Integrity - This is a big one for me so I will include the actual definition of integrity the Army uses as a value... Quote: | "Do what’s right, legally and morally. Integrity is a quality you develop by adhering to moral principles. It requires that you do and say nothing that deceives others. As your integrity grows, so does the trust others place in you. The more choices you make based on integrity, the more this highly prized value will affect your relationships with family and friends, and, finally, the fundamental acceptance of yourself." |
Do whats right... This applies to all situations I think. However, a big one is PvP and land claims I think. Speed hacking, fighting in uber armor when the enemy uses GM only, stone stacking, bullying cause you know you can take them, abusing land claims, and claiming lands that make no sense are just a few examples how someone can portray poor integrity and it is obvious to those around you. The same can be said on the other side, OOC complaining about loosing a battle, talking down to others, or complaining about other guilds or its members in public can be signs of not only poor integrity but obviously respect.
Personal Courage - When there is an issue, to take a voice and bring it up instead of sitting on the sidelines, even if you think you will be ignored or criticized.
...Ok now with all that being said, why did I post this? Well hopefully bringing light to other RPers as a sort of wake up call that a lot of people in the ARPC and outside it are saying there are some big issues going on.
I am not one to typically points out a issue like this and just say... ok discuss. By all means post responses if you like... agree or disagree with what I said. But here is a possible solution I offered long ago and will bring it up again...
I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A MEANS OF COMMUNICATION FOR GM's SUCH AS USING VENT. SO WE CAN ACTUALLY HEAR EACH OTHER AND TALK ABOUT THE OOC DRAMA IS GOING ON. Hopefully things are resolved and we can move forward together. This is a game... We are leaders of guilds and this community. We need to grow up and act like the adults we RP in game. There are misunderstandings and feelings get hurt. Ok great, discuss it, find a solution, and move on. Need a moderator to join the discussion? Do it. This is a game... why keep hurt feelings and personal grudges and hinder RP on the whole?
A number of people in this community are obviously not happy as a whole and a solution needs to be found so they can trust their guild leaders and the ARPC as a whole again.
Maybe I am just spinning my wheels... maybe some agree or some don't who knows. This is not meant as a flame thread and hope it does not turn into this because that is exactly what I wish would stop. I am not calling out any particular person or group. These are just some values that if taken seriously I think people, groups, and the community will greatly benefit. |

?? ...erhm.... wrong board? Since this was directed at Gm's...why not post in the senate? All things considered from the post, wouldn't this post just be retorting the things you spoke about? Kinda...hypocritical? _________________ "Life is but an Image, Of what honor truly is"

Because it does include other people than just GMs. I want them to voice if they agree or not.
As for hypocritical.. can you explain? I am offering up some ideas so that issues can be avoided that so many people have voiced either on these boards or have spoken to me about at one time or another. Im not complaining about anyone or anything in particular, it seems everyone knows these issues already. I am just coming out and saying it and offering a sort of solution.

Agreed, but as it is a GM issue it should be brought forth to GM's first. And yes your dead right about all of the issues, the problem with the bickering and back talk is it is just that, back talk. The people that speak of these things wont bring them to light to anyone's face nor the boards. I would suggest a vent channel for grief's or something as you suggested. But to open pandora's box on the GAH board instead of senate was in a sense (To ME, im not speaking on behalf of everyone, but to ME) just seemd like the beginning of a flame. If you put this in the senate it can be put to light in a good way, rather than the 6 page central role play discussion thats going NO where. _________________ "Life is but an Image, Of what honor truly is"

I had tried that before and basically went nowhere.
But this is also for a different reason. I want to show the people in the community that we are talking out in the open and not behind closed doors. As you know anything said in the Senate stays in the Senate.
And I think many of the points I made about the values, others may benefit from, not just GMs but anyone. As I said in the inital post the values are meant for not only GMs but all RPers. If just one person goes, oh snap.. maybe I shouldnt do that. Or.. oh snap.. this is a good way to look at things in the future. Then it is fully worth posting here. |

I had to reread what I wrote. I wasnt aware the 'b' word was considered swearing (if that is what you are referring to). Apologies It was not meant in a demeaning tone or anything. This thread is meant to be constructive.
I redid it and put a different word in. Again, sorry didnt know it was considered a swear word. |
