Ok. I am so used to getting these for fake Blizzard and Battlenet sites, I was actually surprised to receive a scam email from someone trying to get my UO information. Could it be that UO is actually on the rise again?
Here is the phishing mail I received, so you can see the nature of it. I removed the link to their shifty website, it was just under their name in the closing:

Hi!
I'm not real sure who you are, all I know is your email is currently registered as the owner of my old UO account (username pottedmeatchunks). Ive recently come back to the game and, if you're not playing anymore, would love to have my old account back. Thanks for reading!

1. Please note how they sent it to 2 different email addresses. If they truly knew it was MY email, why was it mass mailed?
2. I've never had an account named pottedmeatchunks - which by the way is the same name as their email.
3. They included a website when they signed their name. I wonder how many unsuspecting people went to it.
If anyone receives this sort of email, all I can say is DO NOT RESPOND. If you do then they will know your email is associated with a UO account, and all sorts of issues can be prevented if you just do not reply. If that username actually belongs to someone here, I'd highly recommend a password change. _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |

Hi Joanna,
This is pottedmeatchunks, the scary phisher/scammer. I just did an exercise of googling my own name and found this post, a year late but oh well it made me LOL. For your info I really did play UO 100 yrs ago and the account name was jonny166. I must have been lacking caffeine when I wrote that email a year ago because I just mistyped the account name, I wanted jonny166 back not pottedmeatchunks. Anyways...I emailed both @yahoo.com and @google.com because all I could find out from UO.com was that your account name was deathwisp and I took a guess you used either yahoo or gmail like 98% of the rest of the world. Turns out I was right. Also....that "shifty" website in my email signature is my cake business website. If you go there, you risk developing a sweet tooth like my other unsuspecting victims/customers.
PS - sorry I scared you a year ago. I admit my email is ridiculous and sounds like a phisher, I invented it when I was 12.
PPS - Do you still have the account tho? I want Zera back on Catskills =] _________________ -phisher chick |

Thanks for clearing that up! At the time, I was really weirded out by that email. I've been hacked before and thought it was a new scheme.
I do still have the account, it was a birthday gift to myself and after all these years I've grown pretty attached to it and taken good care of it. This character, Joanna Weaver, is on it and I use it as my main/only account right now. I put a lot of work into it, I've 120'd a few skills across characters, upgraded it with Mondain's Legacy, Stygian Abyss, and High Seas and extra character slot and storage, (if my memory serves correct on the storage) and even have at least 6 soul stones on it. I transferred a few characters across shards. I don't think there are any trained characters on Catskills right now. I did send a tamer from Atlantic to Europa because I already had a tamer on Atlantic at the time. I am too attached to it and put too much work into it to sell it back, sorry.
However, if you are interested in returning to UO, it is a LOT easier to level skills from start now. Especially crafting and fishing. There is a system in place more like WOW. As long as you have materials to craft, you can set the menu to make a certain amount of an item and you will only have to click it once, not like the crazy repetition of years ago. Also, other skills level faster. People use animal and golem whacking to level melee related skills. Fishing - lobster traps as soon as you can do them, and you can even get to 120 fishing these days.
Anyway, welcome back to UO if you are just returning! _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |

Well I'm just glad someone's getting good use out of the account. I set up a brand new Zera on Catskills last winter, so I'm pretty attached to my new account anyway. Take good care of Zera if she's still around. She was the stupidest, yet awesomest tailor/warrior ever lol. _________________ -phisher chick |

I think she may have moved to Europa, if it is the same Zera. I know that one has tailoring. _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |
