Dust off the star, close your eyes and count to ten. Captured in the pocket of possibilities, she existed. Having hope was engraved into the carving of her soul. Without it she was a shell, a concave mirror of the darkness the world exuded. Existence was a tricky thing. When the possibilities narrowed, so did her space in the world.
Shaking the thoughts off, Kylee ran her hand along the dragons neck. Tenderly she reached the curve and watched as he winced. A rescue from a hunting party in Destard, he'd been outnumbered and lumbering toward the northwest wall when the 12th arrow hit. At least that was what the tamer who had brought him in, had said.
Stark white save for the blood oozing down his front haunches the creature was ever the picture of winter's first snow. She hadn't meant to linger, But Beasts of Burden had been crowded with pain this eve and with every new arrival the itch within her palms became that much more unbearable. Fritz moved gracefully from one patient to another. Every animal getting the utmost attention without taking up so much time that he put another at risk.
Cautiously she waited until he had moved onto the brand new vollem before coming along side the great white wyrm. Whispering softly, she reached up on her tip toes and ran her right hand to the side of the seeping wound. The creature bucked, trying to convey its wish for solitude.
"My respect and my admiration for your gift." The words were barely out before the heat sang through her fingertips, lighting up the elongated neck of the wyrm. Tissue wrapped itself in strands around exposed muscle and nerve, weaving its way in interlocking segments until the white scales here once again uniform. Able now to turn that same section of its body the creature nudged her, giving a soft exhale of breath.
A single nod of her head.
Possibilites were her expertise. |
