If we have a second event or local hangout.... it should be someplace very public where lots of folks come through such as New Haven. We need more public exposure not seclusion. While I love my town, and will gladly share with anyone, I surely don't want folks to feel they HAVE to go there for interaction. I am also willing to work as serving wench or pole dancer or whatever position is needed. _________________ aka: Tatiana Thorn nee Alexi; Summer Kane; Ivory Skyfire; and others |

An NPC town is by far the best option as its much more likely other people playing UO will see the interaction in whatever form it takes and likely more people will join in the fun.
Also if its a player run town there is every chance much of the time it will be unpopulated unless RP is pre-arranged. If there is a bank and stable nearby the NPC town you pick its more interactive.
Just my opinion and likely it does not mean much as I have yet to join a guild hear but I am thrilled at the idea.
Take care all,

I voted for Britain, but I also do rather like the idea of New Haven, especially as a means of getting new blood into the community. _________________ General Cuthbert

New haven is a great place for the reasons aforementioned too. The talk of an doomsday type occurrence to get us there would be neat. Wherever we go, there is great possibility our Role Plays will take us elsewhere, talk IC of building a "new city", all of that happening IG, or talk of the Mother City and government, ect. If we could go with a place and doomsday occurrence, then take it to game soon that would be wonderful. Sickness is a good one, brings healers, religious groups and merchants for all relative reasons. not a plot so to speak with an given outcome, just a course to go on and to each his own. At least we would see many other role players and develop new circles, and make new connections, and everything from there. this is good talks.

As always, the trouble with central locations is that it simply doesn't make sense for certain groups and certain people to associate with each other or come anywhere near each other. Was the same reason OES never showed up to Sanctus tavern night.
What is the consideration for this circumstance of wildly different alignments? If the option is "well people don't 'have' to RP there" then that certainly begs the question of why are we creating artificial habitats in the first place, if we don't expect them to be used? Not trying to be disagreeable, just promoting critical thinking. |

I think you missed the key word NEUTRAL
The idea was created to go somewhere where the lands hold no sway one way or the other. Sanctus, however, is not even one of the voting choices.
Also, this is not to be an ever running tavern night either. It's simply a place to meet. To get RP started not the RP in its entirety.
But, I would like to point out that this community is SCREAMING for interaction and more importantly CONFLICT. What better way than to take your character somewhere ICly you know they shouldn't be?
Having had a character come from Umbra, I doubt seriously you didn't travel to your enemy's back yard to try and cause chaos. The reason I know? Talon and his assorted trops came right back after and had counter attacks for the attack that was initated on them by OES from seasons long ago. I don't think anyone can tell me they don't go to their enemy's territory to at very least spy if not worse.
No one is saying you have to play nice and drink tea. You want to cause chaos, please do, everyone is yearning for it.
Heck if you don't want to bring the actual character Bailos, make another. We all have at least 6 character slots at our disposal. You from what I hear, are an awesome RPer. I'd love to see it first hand instead of just hearing about "the good old days" from the "older" RPers. I wasn't here for the good old days, does that mean I should just pack up and say so long, good bye? I certainly don't think so. We just need to focus on creating another "good old days". I certainly don't care for such labels, "new", "old", cliques, ect. Those are just weak excuses people are hiding behind not to join in and take part. It's shouldn't be about who you play with, it should be about, what you create and bring to the table.
Most people that know me can attest that I really don't care how long any one has been playing.
You've been playing for 100 years, awesome, I've got 6 years, lets play! And oh, look over there, lets go invite that new person that just started and see how they like it?
That's what is more important. If we all are going to just stay in our little cubby holes and only interact with familar people we are going to die out, simply put. I am personally trying my best to keep that from happening but I certainly can't do it all by myself, nor can one group of people do it all by themselves. We are called a community for a reason. If it takes creating a centralized location for RP to get us on our feet, why are we trying to knock it before even testing it out? We all need to work with eachother, "new" and "old", plaid and polka dotted to keeps community which we all love going. _________________ Malorn ‎(12:14 AM):

I hear the "it doesnt make sense for certain people to be together in the same place" argument and the "neutral" argument and they both make sense.
I would say from personal experience that there are times that it really doesnt matter. Some of the most fun I have had with spontaneous RP/interaction is back in the day when The Hand of Humanis was still around and 3 or 4 of us would roll into Stormhaven. Tension? You bet? Arguments? You bet. Not always PvP, a lot of the time it was just yelling, posturing, debating. It was a ton of fun.
This can still be done today with our current guilds. I say we do it. _________________ General Cuthbert

The only thing I see about this that's worth constructively commenting on, from the perspective of someone who was around in the Hanse's/Poet's/Den days, is that in the past, all of those centralized RP locations were done by habit. There was no push for it, it just happened. People congregated at Poets, Hanse's, and the Den because they felt a natural desire to go to these places. It was not done OOC, and it was not done on the forums.
This needs to be kept in mind if you are pushing for this to happen. The initial desire for RP is there, but it's nothing if there's no desire to actually go to these places by habit. When I thought about going to the Den, for instance, the thought process was, "There's been solid RP here for the past few nights, I think I'll go there again," rather than "I've been told OOC that people are trying to push for something here, so I'll go here."
It might seem like a small difference, but it can pile up if it's not dealt with. Once the ball gets rolling, though, and people are there on a nightly or whatever basis, I'm sure it'll take off. It just needs to happen, and not be forced. _________________

Just one of the nuts in the peanut gallery here, & most of you prolly won't like it but...
Someplace in Fellucca might be good if your looking for:
1) Community spirit/coming together to defeat the ever dangerous random insane killer (alot of us did that a few times & it was not only fun but brought the rp community together (friend/foe) against a single cause...Remember?)
2) Conflict (someone said that earlier). Realistic barroom brawls. Less complicated assasination & kidnappings.
Once neutrality rules were in place, taverns got ALOT more boring & alot less business thus leading to less roleplay starters/warmers. Roleplay gets an injection for the soldier types too cause you HAVE to be onguard in a semi-neutral environment, so it gives them something to do (like when I use to help rp train new to game guildmates by having them escort Ditto to Hanse).
OR.... if it HAS to be non-Fel then I vote HANSE cause it was fun in the past before hard core neutrality ensued.
Yes, I'm gonna vote cause down at the bottom of my screen on the forum from my mobile, it says I have permission to. So there! (Alright, who stole the emoticon that sticks out his tongue?) That & I have a vested interest in this particular subject since I plan on spending Alot of time in taverns when I'm back til my rp legs kick in. _________________ Dark Lady Ditto Armunn

I actually didn't miss your keyword. The fact that the LOCATION is neutral doesn't change the fact that people my character might grossly and categorically hate would be there. I understand that people can treat it like the UN and all meet there under neutral circumstances and impartial rules "for the greater good", but putting myself in the shoes of someone whom my example would apply to...I'd like more reason than "well, it's a neutral spot". Not trying to 'fight you', just clearing up my point. |

Voted: Brit Fair Grounds > (preferably Fel)
After re-thinking my position, and wants, I began thinking about what was do'able in the current state considering UO's population and community atmosphere. Also have to consider what the comminity needs. Maximum recruitment possibilities.
I still keep getting a nagging thought of the "realism" that 'good guys wouldn't go have tea w/ bad guys', but again, not enough bodies for that rule of thumb. Brit fairgrounds make the most sense to what is on the list, as it is in a centralized locale & the opportunity for recruitment is stronger than most other areas.
(Yes, I'd prefer Fel, & would love it if Tram didn't exist, but I doubt either will happen. I can still wish tho.) _________________ Dark Lady Ditto Armunn

Well first off I have a question. What if we rotated the spot around?
What if we actually made it different places so that we got the maximum exposure. We could rotate it weekly or even monthly. That way we could pick several places that people love. If your character has no motivation for the spot but loves hanses which comes up the following week then it would get a good feel and rotation for people. This could be added to our tavern rotation if it is weekly.
So I would love to hear what you guys think of changing it up. It would also work well with that idea someone had in the other thread about doing something apocalyptic, we could make that the hang out spot on the rotation. We could always add or remove locations to? Just a thought! We could even have a fel location.
Secondly a bit of an update:
So while this poll has been running, I have been testing out different rp locations. We have already started hopping in game and randomly rping at different spots. Its been fun rotating things around to be honest. I even went to Haven Wednesday night and sold cookies to sorta break new people into the idea of RP. (I have an order for 500 cookies on backorder, it was great, though my character isnt a cook so shes got a dilemma)
When I do this or anyone else, (I know starfires been advertising mazewood in game as well, willows been hanging in Umbra ect) we have been letting people in rp chat know. So if you are listening in please feel free to join if you would like to. Usually going down between 9-9:30.
Was thinking of visiting britain bank area tonight if anyones interested! See you in game! _________________ May destiny guide you... |

I don't see how you can effectively rotate it, this idea needs continuity and you only get that with one location. People have to know everyday that if they are to maximize their opportunity to casually RP without having to set it up prior there is one place to go.
In one place we can have random things take place - here are things I remember from my past life on GL when it was all done in Skara
- spying was huge as people would have random guild interaction and go off to spots where they could not be seen talking together, always knowing but sometimes forgetting they could be spied upon, that was a neat thing for some
- some guilds built alliances over time as they got to know each other better
- the tavern would be a fun place to raise a glass at any time and you could find yourself in conversation with anyone RP and not RP
- lots of people who knew nothing about RP joined a guild as a result of seeing RP in game consistently
- RP pvp happened in town too when tempers flared and that was fun as it was unscripted, yes people screw up and don't always follow the rules but that just causes passion which in the end is a good thing, I can recall actually hating my enemies as I did not know them through chat, forums or anything.
- Lots of other stuff but here is the main point, when Skara was the place there were nights of 40-50 RP people in town, (in today's UO population that would likely be 15-30) but when the people that ran the community decided that there needed to be more RP outside of Skara the community shrivllled up and died in less than a year as a result. Yes some RP still happened after but a pale shadow and today if there are more than the 5 people I would be shocked. The people who decided to move RP moved it because they did not have the control they wanted and once they got it the casual RP'r died unfortunately.
I am new here and I don't have a voice where I have no history, I would however ask you all to consider that history for what it is today. There can be lots of disagreement about what happened on GL but in the end what happened to a once vibrant community is that it died and it died fast.
That your all having the conversation is awesome and I heap praise on you all for that.
