Trei sat cross legged in the clearing contemplating the men he had just met. They took them a bit to figure out the riddle of communication, to the point where he was forced to write. He preferred non-verbal communication. it allowed him to better guage how sharp a person was. Intellect was easy. Logic and problem solving were a better gauge of a person's mental nimbleness. A few, expecially the Cat, had a few flashes of what one would expect from those native of the city of knowledge. Others, like Acheron, were better suited to lifting heavy objects.

In either case, their conversation gave him a better idea of where in the continuium he was. The concept of circular existance still eluded them.

At least they didn't press him about his appearance.

It didn't matter. As long as he avoided the guardian of the sector, he could freely move about and hopefully make the needed changes. The less he spoke, thought or dwelled on her, the easier it would be to act. The changes would set off her alarms, but if she didn't know the source, there would be nothing she could do to stop him.

Poet's garden had been a treat. He had only seen it after the void had consumed most of the area, and all of the life and joy had gone out of the ruins. The souls there had been inquisitive and talkative. Even when they were completely wrong about understanding, they continued the conversation, working from one assumption to another. It didn't matter that they misunderstood his questions, they freely shares the answers they assumed were right, and it was most entertaining.

Wonderful lives. Breathing, living real people, laughing, dancing and bristing with light.

How long would it be until the shadows grew closer? How long did he have? He enjoyed the respite, but the mission had to come first.
