Laying on the deck looking up at the stars with his arms crossed behind his head, he marvelled at just how lucky he had become, in just a few short hours. She lay on his chest, breathing slowly and evenly with her arm draped over his stomach. Even in sleep she was gorgeous. The gentle rocking of the Sea Shell as they lay talking well into the dark of night had lulled her into a peaceful slumber. And now as he lay smiling up at the stars, nothing in the world could ever be wrong again.
His eyes traced the familiar constallations that his father had taught him, lying on this very deck many summers ago. Never in his wildest dreams would he ever have thought he would find anyone that suited him so well, right from the start. Thank the gods he had the courage to say something back in the Skull or he might have missed something big. His mouth turned up in a small smile as he remembered walking in, his eyes falling on her for the first time. Her face had been a mask of pain, her eyes dull. But here, on his ship out on the waves and miles from another human soul, she had brightened and started to open to him. Her kiss on his cheek had been like lightning, he could still feel her warm lips brushing against his flesh. He couldn't wait for dawn's first light to break so he could share with her the quiet rebirth of another tomorrow.
Gently he stroked her head, thinking to himself 'Luck be a lady tonight.'

Her head laid on his chest as they looked up at the vast midnight sky that twinkled with tiny spots from the stars. She pointed at different stars as he told her the different Constellations. She laughed harder that night then she had in the last month. He made her thoughts not go toward "Edward Castle" for this she sighed in relief. She sucked in the air letting it fill her lungs and her soul. 'Alive' that is what she felt. Pure energy. The soft rocking of the boat made her eyes slowly drift toward sleep. The warmth of his hand running through her hair and down her arms felt like a summers breezing blanketing her skin. Not like the burning her body had felt days prier. Her arm draped over his midsection. In her mind she thought" O blessed, blessed night! I am afeard. Being in night, all this is but a dream,Too flattering-sweet to be substantial: 'romeo and juliet'. She drifts to sleep.

The feeling of sweet surrender.
The whisper of breath upon pale skin.
The dance of light, dark, shadow.
Slick smooth oil, turbulent sea.
Quiet calm.
Endless waves.
The promise of a new day.

Rain...somehow, when you were feeling low the rain always knew. From the first small splattering to the following torrents, rain on the water was like nothing else. The sound of water meeting water, the gales of the wind as it drove the water sideways at times, the waves reaching over the sides of the boat. And just when all seemed lost, the soft steady downpour. Sitting, shirtless and drenched on the deck under a heavy nights sky, he looked up at the clouds thinking to himself, 'No stars tonight for you and I to share, wherever you may be laying your head, my dearest.'
He leaned back against the side of the ship, a bottle of rum tucked under his arm. Even as the water shed off his skin in sheets, he couldn't help but smile thinking about the news. Perhaps he really had been given the single greatest opportunity his life would ever know. He thought about that small cloth wrapped package hidden safely away back home, away from prying eyes. Perhaps he had found a use for it after all.
He closed his eyes, seeing her gentle smile, almost hearing her humming happily and it was like she was there with him, gently caressing his face and laughing...oh that sound, like heaven here on earth and just for him. He felt it, he knew, and he laughed like a mad man for knowing it.
He jumped to his feet, kicking the bottle over but what did he care? He threw open his arms and bellowed into the rain, over the sea, across the waves, to anything that would listen:
"I LOVE HER!"

She looked at the stars as the boat drifted across the water. She turn to her side and rested her chin against her hand as she stared at him sleeping. They both were so different, One was calm and cool, gentle and loving and would die for her, The other was like a burning fire, warmth that made her body flush a thousand shades of red, was rough and dangerous. She sighed at the thoughts. she traced the outline of his face with her finger and smiled. He keeps me safe and loves me, she thought. Her eyes darted upward as she saw a star streak the sky she closed her eyes and whispered ...

Star light
Star bright
The first star I see tonight
I wish I may
I wish I might
Have this wish I wish tonight

With her wish swelling beneath herself she drifted to sleep

This strange room, this sweat stained cot, it made him miss his boat. There was no familiar rocking, no sound of wave on wood, no gulls baying in the morning light. He lie on his back, looking at the rafters, missing the stars.
This was all that kid's fault.
He rolled out of bed, she stirred beside him, moaning slightly in the darkness. Leaning, he placed a gentle kiss on her forehead. "I'll be back, my sweet one." He slipped on his weather worn leather shoes and padded lightly out of the room, into the dimly lit hall. Treading lightly on the stairs, the innkeeper's son looked up from a small pile of parchments and opened his mouth to speak. He placed a finger to his lips to shush the man and walked out the front door.
Outside, there was a full moon and the stars shone dimly. Not like out at sea where they seemed to shine for him and his girl alone. Here it was quieter, and as he strolled along the now empty streets, he thought about what it would be like to live in a place like this, what it would be like to raise the baby here.
The baby...that thought was rough. He hoped to all the stars in all the heavens that it would be his. And even if it wasn't, he'd still try his hardest to give it the best life he could. He smiled thinking of the wonder on his child's face the first time they understood a sunrise or the gentle laughter that would peal to his ears while he told stories of how the stars got in the sky. He just couldn't wait. But if it was that boy's....he shook his head clearing his thoughts. It was rough.
Sitting down on a small bench, he looked up at the sky. Sitting very still, he almost swore he could hear the starsong his mother used to tell him the stars sang for those who had the heart to listen, bittersweet but fulfilling. He closed his eyes and gently hummed the faint melody of the heavens, thinking about how very soon, his life would be very different.
