Maia cupped her friend Squishy in her hands as she went up the steps into Kelly's home. The home was silent, save for the few statues. "Miss Kelly?" She yelled out as she walked to the teleporter that lead to the lab. Once she opened the metal doors, she saw Kelly sitting at her table.

"Come in Maia dear. I was expecting you." She casually motioned her to take a seat across from her. "I trust you have been working on your talents I have taught you?" It was that moment that Squishy made its appearance from beneath the flowerpot. Kelly raised a brow as she saw the little spider emerge. "Interesting choice of body molding, but very well done." Then it blinked. Kelly froze. Now she was fascinated by this little shadow. "It seems you have done more than created a simple shadow." She studied the spider as it skittered about the table between them.

"Oh Miss Kelly. This is Squishy. Isn't it cute? I mean it has its own personality too. Right Squishy?" Maia beamed as Squishy nodded and blinked its eight eyes. "I really don't know how I did it. But I did just what you told me to do. I started off way too big. So then I went smaller. And the shadow stuff sorta took its on shape. Just like you said it would. I even took it with me to tavern night to show it off to some friends." She giggled. "Squishy made some friends!"

Kelly shook her head. "Are you sure it was friends Maia?"

"Oh I am sure! They didn't try to kill squishy at all. Well except the one lady who said she wanted to kiss Squishy. Aulbrey I think was her name. She danced and played with Squishy as did a few others." Maia watched her little spider do its own tricks and stunts on the table.

Kelly chuckled. "Well lets see what your little friend here can do." Kelly put the little critter through what seemed like hours of tests with Maia and the pair made some very interesting discoveries. There was a lot more to this little blinky bug than both had expected.

Maia curled up on the fur piles in the tailoring room with her little friend. "Good night Squishy. Or is it good morning?" She patted the spider as it sat watch over her. Once she was asleep, Squishy grew a bit bigger, to the size of a large tarantula and crept into the shadows of the the furs nearby.

Squishy moved through the shadows, unseen, unheard. It crawled up the wall, staying to the darkness in the corner of the room. It opened its eight eyes and looked down on a slumbering Aulbrey. Squishy was amused at this creature that was gargantuan in size, but mortified of it. It watched her from the safety of the ceiling, blinking on occasion. It was then, Squishy got the idea. It spun a web of shadow in the corner opposite the bed so she would certainly see it when she woke. Squishy found her flask and hefted it up into the web. It then went out and found a few snowdrop flowers and fashioned it with the flask in the web. Then Squishy went to the darkest corner away from the web and watched and waited. If a spider could laugh....this one certainly would.

Aulbrey opened her eyes and unconsciously reached for her flask. After reaching around for it and not finding it she sat up and rubbed her eyes as she looked around on the floor thinking it may of fallen during the night. Aulbrey got up and began to pace back and forth. "where could it be" she mumbled to herself. She yawned and stretched her arms as she did so she looked up and thats when she saw it. With her eyes widening she let out a scream and jumped into the bed shaking flair....

WAKE UP WAKE UP YOU GOTTA SAVE IT.....I MEAN ME

Flair awoke with a start when Aulbrey started shaking him violently. Reaching for his sword he slowly scans the room and realizes what all the trouble is. It seems Squishy wanted to play with Aulbrey and took her flask and hid it up in a web in the corner. He slowly reaches up and grabs the flask chuckling at the spider. He gently pets it on the head as he retrives Aulbreys treasured flask. He returns the flask to her and turns back to the spider. "Please try to take it easy on her, friend. She carries a baby and too much excitement isn't good for her, although i know you meant no harm." The spider simply blinks at him and vanishes into the dark. Turning to Aulbrey he grabs her giving her a hug and tells her it will be ok, Squishy was just playing. He tells her she needs to lay down and get some rest he will stay up the rest of the night and be sure the spider doesn't return. Aulbrey slows climbs back in bed, flask and all and lays down while Flair stands watch over her.

Squishy sensed the concern of the big one. It vanished into the shadows and popped out by Maia. It made sure she was well and safe then checked on Kelly. She was in her lab messing with vials and ingredients. Squishy skittered over to her.

Kelly looked down as Squishy began to climb up her leg. "What seems to be troubling you little one?" She felt something amiss with the shadow. Squishy jumped down and looked around as if it wanted to communicate but didn't know how. Kelly watched it and then got an idea. "Wait there." She walked over to a stack of chests and pulled out a parchment and ink and quill and cleared off a spot on the table. "Squishy. Here. Lets see if you can write. " She laid the quill down next to the inkwell and watched a very curious Squishy check everything out. It then toyed with the quill. Kelly chuckled and then picked up the quill to show Squishy how to use it. Then she dipped the tip into the well and drew a letter A. She slowly wrote the entire alphabet on the parchment with Squishy watching closely. She then wrote down several names. Squishy seemed to understand everything. She then laid the quill down in front of Squishy. "Your turn."

Squishy studied the quill and the parchment. Then instead of using the quill, it dipped two legs into the well and made little strokes. It worked!. The spider jumped up and down, making little ink dots wherever its feet touched on the parchment. It then tried to pick up the quill and fumbled around with it before tossing it aside and dipping its front legs again in the inkwell.

Kelly watched amazed at how smart Squishy was. Also she was amazed at how it improvised, using its front legs as the writing tool. IT...Kelly had to figure out if Squishy was a male or female...or perhaps it was truly an it. Genderless. "Squishy. Are you a male or a female?" It looked up at her as if a bit confused. Kelly went over to a book and opened it up to some pictures. "Male....female."

Squishy went back to the parchment and began to attempt writing. After a few backward letters and scribbles, the word could finally be read. "Male" It looked up at her and blinked.

Kelly smiled. "A boy. So now I can refer to you as a he instead of it."

Squishy liked that she could read his writing. He tapped the parchment then went to work writing another word. "More"
Kelly tilted her head then snapped her fingers and went over to the chest. She pulled a stack of blank scrolls and placed them on the table. She also got a smaller quill and another bottle of ink. "There you go. I must rest now Squishy. There are plenty of books for you to learn from." She said as she left him on the table alone.

Squishy gave a nod and immediately began to learn the art of writing. Hours passed and he kept at it. Scroll after scroll front and back of each was spent, and finally the first inkwell was used up. As the day gave way to night, he finally paused. He jumped up and down excitedly and rolled the scroll up. He then went searching through the chests in the house and found just what he was wanting. He picked up the unopened bottle of wine and carried it carefully to the table. He then fashioned the scroll around the bottle so you couldn't see the writing on the scroll, tied it with a strand of sweet grass and hefted it into the web net for easy transport.

Moments later, Squishy emerged in Flair and Aulbrey's room. Glad to see neither were there, Squishy went work. He spun a shadowy design almost like a snowflake on the wall in the same corner and then spun a shadowy rope-like cord to hold the bottle carefully up high. He then popped outside and picked some wildflowers and bundled them up, fashioning the small bouquet with the bottle. He tested it for strength. It held firm. This time he stayed with it hiding behind the bottle, peeking out from either side as he heard footsteps.

*The note is written in tiny strokes as if someone used toothpicks instead of a quill, and there are countless tiny dots all over the scroll. Upon reading it reads*

Squishy not bad.
Squishy give gift to Aulbrey.
Want friend.

When Maia woke, she noticed Squishy was missing. "SQUISHY!!!" She called as she went through the house until she hit the lab. She saw Kelly cleaning up the table...as best she could. The table would forever have tiny dots everywhere now because of Maia's pet. Maia helped her clean up and the one thing they noticed on the scrolls was the name Aulbrey repeatedly written along with friend. Kelly and Maia looked and shook their heads. Maia was the first to speak. "Should I go get Squishy?"
"He'll be fine I'm sure. I just wonder what form he will take next, and how big." Kelly said as she managed to fade the ink but not full get rid of it.
Maia blinked. "He? How do you know?" She asked.
"I asked him after showing him pictures of males and females of creatures in a book. Seems you have more than just a simple pet. Have you been troubled by those spirits lately?" Kelly paused and watched Maia as she made several amusing faces in thought.
"Not since I made Squishy. Wait...Do you think he scared them off?" She asked
"Hard to say if he did or if they manifested into your pet...er...friend. Only time will tell." Kelly said as she went about educating Maia on what she had learned about Squishy the previous night.

Walking into the room Aulbrey stopped for a moment at her desk. She sensed someone or something was watching her but could not tell for sure. " I...I...I will kick you when I find you..." she quietly spoke. Aulbrey was still a little nervous from the past few days, it has been exhausting practicing the fine art of staying sober.
Aulbrey looked up and thats when she saw it.

She looked around as if Wynn or flair had been playing a joke on her. The bottle was just hanging there. " I know I'm gonna grab it and something is gonna fall on me isn't" she thought to herself. Slowly extending her arm slowly then pulling it back fast. After looking around and finding no one else in the room she again found herself reaching for the bottle. Now on her tip toes Aulbrey could almost reach the bottle when it began to swing back and forth. The bottle started to fall and something crawled onto her arm. With her mind focused on the bottle she did not realize that squishy was now sitting on her shoulder.

Examining the bottle still unsure if it was really what she thought it to be. Taking the scroll from around the bottle she began to read. How odd she thought to herself as she noticed the small markings all over the scroll. Her eyes seemed to pop out of her head as she read about squishy. " Squishy gave this to me" she thought. Her head turned and thats when she saw Squishy, she instinctively swatted at squishy as she fell backwards. Looking at the bottle that now lay rolling on the floor then looking back towards Squishy. "Y...You brought this for me" she managed to blurt out

reaching for the bottle she thought to herself ....... I guess spiders are not so bad
