Lets have a Mail carrier and we place stuff in our mailboxes and they deliver it to other peoples house that we have addressed. In game there is a post office set up but Iwont mention whos it is. So we can have our own mail system. What you think. Just like the post office but no real bills. YEA!!!!! | The mail carrier would have to be specifically accessed to our house/mailbox in order to remove items from it. That's not going to happen. I like the idea of a mail carrier, though. Alternatively, we could drop it off at the post office with a note saying who it was supposed to be delivered to.

I hadn't imagined removing items from mailboxes.
Specifically delivery only. At least, I certainly only intend delivery only. _________________ "Art and architecture must combine to create something larger than either." ~ Robert Campbell |

SO far I've been up in the air, but I definitely don't like the idea of taking out too. I use my mailbox at times as Lazy storage. The "oooh, I went fishing and caught stuff and now I've too much crap" storage. Anyone with access would have to be someone I'd trust a lot. _________________ (4:45:41 PM) Jarem: It becomes increasingly difficult to feel noble in my causes when my cause is to defend my charge from her own violent tendencies. |

we can use the post office, again it would only be nonimportant stuff. Lets say this if you want to do it and it is ok with JOanna then we can deliver to her post office. If you want to do it later then you can. Nothing will change at your house. Was just suggesting more rp and use what resources are there. *off to the post office* Give her a run as well so she can deliever it. _________________ What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

Grignag wrote: | While I always encourage activity that results in more in game interaction, a few things to be considered:
1) How secure will the mail system be, both IC and OOC? IC is a matter of IC trust and thus would just be another facet of the whole idea. No problem there. OOC though, what prevention is there for someone reading what is obstensibly "private" messages? For the most part, it is easy to tell when someone has been through your mail in real life. Considerably harder in game when all you have to do is open the book. Questions of whether not someone could "intercept" or read the mail on alternate characters would inevitably come up.
I, for one, would never be a trustworthy in game mailman, considering who I am as a player. I never metagame, so that wouldn't be an issue, but i'd read everything placed in my hands to deliver, as part of the fun of the roleplay community is seeing what is up. Some people might have an issue with this and I doubt I would be the only one thusly interested.
2) How active will the mail carriers be? Will mail be left un-delivered when the main mail carriers have IRL stuff to deal with? Will there be back-ups? Will they meta-game free (see above)? Will people know when their mail is being left to rot due to IRL issues?
3) The final point isn't so much an issue as it is an observation. That being that the forums already serve the purpose of an inbox of sorts. Not to mention you can send private messages if you want to keep it away from the prying eyes of (wo)man. How likely people are to make use of the service when they could use the forums is up in the air. Some might really like the idea, others might not feel the need to bother. Again, not an issue, just pointing out that even if widely accepted, it might not be widely used.
Still sounds like a fun idea. Just not certain if any of my characters (talking IC here) would trust a mail/communication system that is controlled by an organization other than their own. |
I think that Grignag brings up some good points. These aren't deal killers for me though. This is something that a group of -trustworthy- players in the community should be responsible for. Personally. I'd rather have a way to send a message to someone ICly and not OOCly let everyone know what I'm talking about. I never want to accuse anyone of metagaming, but the temptation is there with things like this, so it should and would have to be a group that is loosely tied to the RP that's going on and neutral party that does deliveries.
If I had to work on the design side of this, I would say that we could use up to five volunteers that would be in line for deliveries.
I'm on board for this idea. The Sirah Syndicate would gladly assist in such things (they're all about business).
Also on the flip side of things. There isn't anything saying you would -have- to use this system. I mean obviously for example if Drayden had a sensitive dispatch to send to an agent he would have it delivered by one of his own. However, I do like the idea of not having to use a board that everyone in the comm can access to send -some- things to my friends ICly. |

I've made a portion of my Trading Post into a safe deposit box room. I will gladly take delivery requests and drop offs. |

I cant wait to get started. Hopefully this week a mail system will be in place. We can drop off at the post offices and they can be delivered. _________________ What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

I'm finishing up the storage area and I'll have a pic and coordinates available soon. All I can say at this point is that it is on the coast just south of Vesper in !DRW territory. |

Joanna and Drayden now have drop places. If you need a rune let one of us know. (not that I have one yet but I will ask them) Let the mail system begin. If you want to be a carrier let one of them or myself know as well . THis will be great fun. *runs to mailbox* _________________ What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

If somoene wishes to be ambitious, we could make a mailbox drop rune book and I could lock it down at goodmans. Andrasta has invited us to lock down what we wish. Just let me know!
Or conversely get me the runes and I will make copies. _________________ May destiny guide you... |

I really like this idea and would use the service for my rp and even in conjunction with the boards. Say I want to propose a land claim, I would post it on the boards but also send a letter through in game mail. I think it would really bring it to life in game rather then OOC chatter. As far as keeping messages private I suggest a lock box system. When you want to join the mail system you come to the post office and provide a rune to your home and you receive a key to open mail. At the post office they will have the matching key to lock the box when it is dropped off to be sent (can you even have copies of keys?). with a system similar to this the messengers would not be able to open the box without a key and the sender would witness the box being locked. As for intercepting the mail i think it would be fun if you would need to figure out the mail routes and have to chase a messenger down. Good luck catching a messenger since i suspect they will be fast and have preset plans for such a situation. All this just sounds like a good way to enhance rp and add to the community and who doesn't love snail mail, just watch out for that junk mail. |
