Ok here is another one of my crazy ideas but I do think it will be fun. How about we make use of our mailboxes. Lets have a Mail carrier and we place stuff in our mailboxes and they deliver it to other peoples house that we have addressed. In game there is a post office set up but Iwont mention whos it is. So we can have our own mail system. What you think. Just like the post office but no real bills. YEA!!!!!

I actually like this idea, would be great for Roleplay. Perhaps important documents can be passed through the carrier and guilds may even choose to intercept such documents...
Very Interested in where this idea may go. |

While I always encourage activity that results in more in game interaction, a few things to be considered:
1) How secure will the mail system be, both IC and OOC? IC is a matter of IC trust and thus would just be another facet of the whole idea. No problem there. OOC though, what prevention is there for someone reading what is obstensibly "private" messages? For the most part, it is easy to tell when someone has been through your mail in real life. Considerably harder in game when all you have to do is open the book. Questions of whether not someone could "intercept" or read the mail on alternate characters would inevitably come up.
I, for one, would never be a trustworthy in game mailman, considering who I am as a player. I never metagame, so that wouldn't be an issue, but i'd read everything placed in my hands to deliver, as part of the fun of the roleplay community is seeing what is up. Some people might have an issue with this and I doubt I would be the only one thusly interested.
2) How active will the mail carriers be? Will mail be left un-delivered when the main mail carriers have IRL stuff to deal with? Will there be back-ups? Will they meta-game free (see above)? Will people know when their mail is being left to rot due to IRL issues?
3) The final point isn't so much an issue as it is an observation. That being that the forums already serve the purpose of an inbox of sorts. Not to mention you can send private messages if you want to keep it away from the prying eyes of (wo)man. How likely people are to make use of the service when they could use the forums is up in the air. Some might really like the idea, others might not feel the need to bother. Again, not an issue, just pointing out that even if widely accepted, it might not be widely used.
Still sounds like a fun idea. Just not certain if any of my characters (talking IC here) would trust a mail/communication system that is controlled by an organization other than their own. _________________ Femmies?! HOWAH!

Points well taken. I my idea was to have another way to rp. Give more people jobs persay. So stuff like books flowers ect can be deliverd and would make more use of people house as well. Important stuff can still be posted on boards or pmed. There is a wonderful post office in our community that is not being utilized and should be. Simple things can be dropped off and heck sends bills for the plants you just sent to your woman. Just and idea. Simple things not things that could or would make rp harder. Also the people that would be used will be people that have honest chars. That wouldnt look or mabey someone tha thas a empty slot just to be a mail person and no other role but that. _________________ What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

Not really in line with the era most rp, but far more modern and out of synch in my opinion. Then, of course, just my opinion. _________________ *Even if you be otherwise perfect, you fail without humility. ~ The Talmud* |

Courier services (probably) date back to the invention of the written word. The Romans had a postal service. So did Charlemagne and the Holy Roman Empire. Organizations like the Knights Templar had private courier services and went out of their way to make sure the routes were well-protected.
If you want to say that something is out of sync, it should be the fact that just about everyone's character is literate. If everyone had been literate in Charlemagne's day, postal services that delivered mail to individual private citizens royal subjects would have existed. As it is, most communications on the messenger board are between leaders or otherwise important people anyway, so it makes sense either way.
I weakly support this idea. Not absolutely crazy about it (I echo Grignag's second and third points), but it would be nice to see and I'd use it. _________________ a.k.a., Killian Ond, Oliver Dunham, Iorwerth (ap Gruffydd), Husam (ibn) Sadid, Ortinlem |

It's as in line with the era as any other roleplay from another world is. Gates open to Earth all the time. People end up in Sosaria from all over the universe.
More evidence? We have mailboxes in game.
Don't worry though, I don't think Wynn plans to go too modern with it, even if the current era fiction actually does, in fact, support it.
I like Izrem's points. I own a post office in game, and it would be bad business to let our mail get tampered with, and ruin my business' reputation on top of it. So being of general good karma, I would see to it that my mail was protected. That said, brigands and other such criminals attack mail routes! well heres a way to do it then personaly give ppl keys to boxs to hold on to that recive packages that way if some one locks the box only the 2 can open it and to tell if it was tampered with would be:
1. the box is unlocked or
2 your key does not work
just an idea to make it safer i my self vote yes to this idea |

When Stonegate had my thief on trial his journals were passed and unexpectedly detoured. It was completely unexpected and lead to some more spontaneity. from that point on nothing really happened exactly how it was supposed to. It made things a lot of fun. And that wouldn't have even had a chance to happen if things had been done on here. _________________ "You believe in that voodoo crap, will you please pray to God for me?"-Garret
