"That boy changes women like his Mother changes weapon blades."
From her viewpoint in the realm of non-corporeal Emily watched as her boy put more touches on his new home. A slight wave of her hand had her switching scenes to a previous evening where he had taken a bottle of wine and poured out the contents instead replacing it with water for her great grandbaby.
Great Grandbaby. Merci's kids having kids. By the Gods she was old. Kestryl wasn't her first Great Grandchild but she belonged to the most unsettled of the brood outside of Lexi. At least unsettled until recently. The last month had been most enlightening.
Emily knew better though than to take Korin at face value. Happiness could be fleeting, contingent on a mood. She didn't think that was the case this time around but the only real way to find out was to take a look into his heart.
Concentrating on what little magic she possesed in this realm Emily split the veils.
Korin's light blue ears pointed up as he charged headfirst into the painted caves of Trinsic just as her soft voice drifted in on him from behind his steed.
"You've been busy, haven't you my boy." |

Korin's mount pranced just outside the entrance to the cave. One last check of his equipment and Korin set his helm firmly on his head.
Just as his heels dug into the flanks of his mount and the beast set into motion a charge that could not be stopped, Korin heard a familar voice behind him.
"You've been busy, haven't you my boy?" came his grandmothers voice.
Korin turned his head to look back, The shimmering form of his grandmother stood in the spot where he had just left. Korin was temporarly plunged into darkness, before his elven eyes adjusted to the low light of the cave. He pulled back hard on the reins. But it was too late, Lurg was just inside the door. With one massive swipe of his clawed hands, Korin was dismounted and knocked to the floor of the cave. Korin scrabbled to his feet and parried Lurgs next attack. Then made his way to the entrance as fast as he could.
Emerging from the cave his helm sitting lopsided on his head he looked to the shimmering form of his grandmother. "Busy?" Then he smiled it dawning on him what she was talking about. All korin could do was smile. |

Reine you have been missing your trainings again, I wont abide it.! Merci stared at her daughter's blue streaked blonde hair. Reine's wings trembled then folded neatly against her back as she folded in on herself. As usual Merci wore a dissapointed and severe look on her face, it was all she had ever seen from her mother. Merci had always been rough on her, she didn't quite understand it really, she babied the newer children in comparison to her. What had she done wrong? Had she not tried to be everything her mother had wanted?
Mother, please I have done everything in my power to please you. I have sacrificed so much for Stonegate. Why must it always be like this between us?
Merci paused she stared at Reine, at her beautiful face, her graceful wings, the bewildered look upon her face. Reine had been so many years of work, the girl had been unstable at first, then had receded like a wilting rose, Afraid of her own shadow. It sickened her to see this scared weak behaviour.
Becuase you are so like her.. so like Reine.. and she was not strong enough, and I vowed that you would be...
What? My aunt? This is about my dead aunt? All these years you have been so cold, so harsh to me because you couldnt save her!
It was as if something inside of her snapped, as if a tightly pulled rope snapped, and the words spilled forth the fury of them biting angrily out. It was in that moment, that the Reine who used to cower timidly before her mother, who used to obey her every command, was gone. Her wings beating furiously, her anger flowing from her body she lifted a few feet into the air, towering over Merci. She would not try to please this woman any more. She didnt need it, she could go to hell for all Reine cared...
All these years I have been walking in some dead womans shadow! I didnt ask for this name you gave it to me! I AM MYSELF, I AM NOT HER! I AM STRONG! Hell hath no fury like a demon scorned...
It was one of those pivotal moments, where the tension in the air could be felt crackling against your skin. Where mother and daughter stared eye to eye each waiting for the next words. It was in that moment that Merci did something irregular, she smiled, her face changing, her blue eyes bright.
Yes Reine, you are strong. I have done my duty, by you, my job is complete.
It was as if ethereal bindings unwrapped from Reine's heart, heavy chains left her body, chains of worry, chains of misery. A warmth rushed over her as her beating wings trembled with excitment and new found strength. Merci had at last..set her free. It was in those moments as Merci's smile of approval lit up Reine's eyes she finally understood all that had happened to her. Though she did not agree with it, it had made her who she was today. Who she was to become. She felt empowered, she felt that she could do anything, she was a new woman.
So Reine tell me, when were you going to tell me, you were having another child? Reine just shook her head and smiled, she didnt know what to say, you just couldnt hide anything from your parents.
So the cycle continues mother, Merci smiled at her daughter with newfound hope.. _________________ May destiny guide you... |
