Quietly and quickly Ivae slipped atop her horse Brenna, her thin body a mere feather on the strong back of her mare. A final glance over her left shoulder told her Jaana was standing beside Ramoth, silently concentrating on the wing that had been torn from tip to the second joint. A pang of pain and guilt swept through Ivae as she heard her precious Ramoth mewl softly in pain.
Unshed tears stung her eyes and made the already brilliant emeralds shine with a light that seemed to pierce the soul of any who looked apon her. Tucking an unruly crimson curl behind her slight pointed ear, Ivae clucked her tongue softly, and Brenna moved forward, to the mouth of the cave.
The sounds of the waterfall dimmed and faded completely as Ivae's thin arm held back the dense vines and overgrowth that shielded the mouth of the cave she had just recently been introduced to. Its location would forever remain a secret, as she had sworn an oath before entering. As she emerged from the cave, her eyes swept upwards to the horizon, and she was surprised to see the sun fading below the mountain tops.
Urging Brenna into a brisk trot with a soft spoken elvish word, Ivae's eyes lay unfocused on her surroundings. Her mind raged with thoughts of everything else. How would they ever heal Ramoth? It was, of course, completely her fault. Sighing softly, she mused to herself until Brenna swung her head to the right, trying to get Ivae's attention.
Focusing, Ivae realized they were standing in front of the moongate not far from the mouth of the cave. She asked Brenna to move forward, and her mount obliged. The bright blue light filtered all around them, and Ivae prepared to see the Moongate at Moonglow. To her surprise, however, they simply moved through the gate, to the other side.
Frowning, Ivae walked Brenna into the moongate again, only to achieve the same effect. Sighing, Ivae closed her eyes and concentrated, murmuring her recall spell that would take her directly to Nazralte's house. The spell shimmered about her like a thousand diamonds in her peripheral vision. After a few moments, however, it faded, and she remained sitting atop her mount in the same place.
A shiver ran the length of Ivae's spine as the sun dropped a few more inches below the horizion and night crept closer to her, like a blanket she could not push away. Biting her lip, she moved Brenna to the moongate again, mouthing a silent prayer that it work. Her magic had been messing up lately, but not to this extent. It had been months since she had not be able to recall. The soft blue glow faded around them and Ivae stood in Moonglow, just in time to see the sun drop completely below the earth.
Darkness fell and Ivae's eyes adjusted immediatly. Her nymph blood gave her almost perfect night vision, something she was never grateful enough for. Brenna knew where they were heading, and by her pace, Ivae could imagine she was as ready to be home and bedded down as any animal could be. Allowing her mount to lead them, Ivae once again lost herself in thought, although this time, Nazralte dominated most of them.
This newfound love was something she had never experienced before, and while it terrified her, it also gave her hope. She knew one day she would bury him, he was, after all, only human, but the time they spent until then she hoped would leave her enough memories to carry on until the gods called her to join him.
Ivae's hair tingled suddenly, and gooseflesh raised on her arms as something moved past her so quickly and so close she could almost feel its breath. Slowly stirred from her reviere, she glanced about her, assuming it was a bat. The ear spliting shriek she heard next, however, was not from any bat she had ever met, or cared to meet.
Brenna startled, but to her merit, she did not dart. Prancing nervously, Ivae lightly tugged on the soft leather reigns, reassuring her mount with soft elven speech. Searching the darkness, Ivae finally spotted her. Dressed fully in shimmering white, the woman stood about five feet to Ivae's left, her hands held together and hidden by the belled sleeves of her robe. Her eyes were a soft violet, haunting but somehow farmiliar.
"I have come for you Ivae, it is time. You have what I need."
The melodic voice rang through Ivae's mind as she searched for a connection. It finally came to her. The soul seeker. The witch from Cyril. How had she found her? After two centuries...
"You could not take it then, you will not take it now."
Murmuring softly, Ivae urged Brenna into a dead run, and her mount did not need much encouragment. Brenna's strong legs carried them through the trees, and Ivae leaned into her mount, tightening her thighs slightly on Brenna's side as she rode bareback.
The woman followed them, floating along the ground as though she did not need to step on physical matter to move. The blessed lights of Naz's house shone before Ivae, and Brenna shot forward, racing for the porch. Not bothering with the steps, Brenna coiled her legs beneath her, leaping up unto the porch and into sanctuary. Just as they crossed the threshold, the woman reached out to Ivae, running a thin finger along the scar that Ivae had aquired so many years ago.
Blinding pain shot through Ivae's mind and body as it registered the fact her scar had reopened, the wound as fresh and deep as it had been the night the drow had given it to her. Gasping softly, she slid off Brenna, and leaned heavily on a chair in the main hall for a moment. Gathering her strength, she began the journey of what seemed like forever to the bedroom on the third floor.
By the time she opened the door of the bedroom, she was so dizzy it took her a long moment to realize Nazralte was trimming the small bonsai tree on the table beside thier bed. Smiling weakly, she straightened herself, walking toward him, determined to not make him worry. Crimson red blood painted a macabre picture on her flat pale stomach as she stood before her love, Forcing a smile, though the emerald in her eyes dimmed.
She had come, and she would not stop until Ivae's soul rested within her hands. _________________

A very good tale. I do love a good story. I wait patiently for more.
