Jean stood in front of the building where Oakley had led him, looking around. The silhouette of a man stringing a bow in a third floor window eliminated his doubts about his information. While doing his last supply check, he congratulated himself on picking an open public place to finally finish this mess.
Opening the door plunged Jean into character. The smirk at his own inner sarcasm became a smile, and he allowed himself to react to the cold. His face softened and he clasped his hands attempting to warm them. Inside the building on the first floor he found a female elf sitting at a desk reading. She had long black hair and pale skin, exactly what his wife would have enjoyed toying with.
Jean's smile didn't fade when he knocked the elf out with his club. His smile didn't fade as he dragged her to a convenient little storage room and locked the door. His smile only grew when he thought about the scars his wife would put on that even face. Satisfied that the first floor wouldn't produce any witnesses, he moved on to the second floor. Staying in character was easy until he realized he wouldn't need it. Jean quickly headed up the stairs with his club in his right hand, and a bomb in his left.
At the top of the stairs Jean was surprised to find the silhouette belonged to a bald green skinned orc, who'd heard him coming up the stairs. Even more surprising that the orc's eyes were magnified by a pair of glasses and fixed directly on him. Unsure what to do about the situation, he threw his bomb at the orc.
The orc quickly jumped out of his seat and away from the bomb. Jean laughed as the orc tried to nock an arrow on his stringless bow. As Jean's bomb exploded, the orc abandoned the useless bow and grabbed a bag on the floor. In an orcish voice Jean heard "Uu nub kin clomp ee wid dose. Ee hab dose tu." Further confused by the orc's speech, Jean quickly went down stairs.
At the bottom of the stairs Jean decided to set up for a fight. In the time it took him to set a few bombs around the landing, the orc had pulled out an orange potion and was calling him. "Humie! Ee gon sho uu ee firez".
Jean looked up just in time to see an orange potion be tossed down the stairs. His eyes widened as he jumped out of the door.
As he'd expected the orange potion was a fire bomb, which set off his trap. He felt the heat and the sting of the glass shrapnel shooting into his skin. Jean's first thought was to curse his wife. It was her fault that he was in this situation. It was her fault that he was in a fight, instead of a puzzle. And it was her fault that he was getting blown up by an orc. On instinct Jean grabbed one of the bookshelves and used it to stand. Armed with his club, he waited for the orc to come through the doorway.
"Ee comin fer uu!" the orc yelled, as he burst through the doorway.
Jean attacked quickly, catching the orc off guard. His club smashed the orc's shoulder, causing him to drop what was in his hand. Jean had no time to react. By the time he heard the sound of the glass breaking, he could already feel the intense heat on his legs. Panicked for the first time in his career, Jean ran for the door.
A final explosion rocked the building.
The last thing Jean saw was the inside of a burning library. |

Satisfied with the quality of his new bow string, Vidish was taking his time and enjoying the work of restringing it. The apartment was empty, everything was quiet and the atmosphere was nothing you'd expect an orc to enjoy.
A sudden sound caught Vidish's attention as he sized up his string. Someone was coming up the stairs, it was too quiet to be Sarker, so Vidish smiled and waited for Felyn.
It was a pleasant surprise to see a bald human man come up the stairs, but before he was able to greet the stranger he found himself dodging a purple bottle. His instinct took over as he instantly became angry about his peace and quiet being ruined.
A momentary brain lapse saw him trying to fire an arrow on a stringless bow. Whoever the stranger was knew how to instigate. Vidish couldn't believe this human was laughing at him. Hearing the explosion where he was sitting reminded Vidish he had some of those too, so he grabbed his back of potions and decided to taunt back.
In his best attempt at the common language he yelled, "Uu nub kin clomp ee wid dose! Ee hab dose tu!"
Vidish looked down the stairs and watched the stranger set out some more potions. He was a little confused but figured a little fire would stop whatever was going on down there. So he dug through his bag and found one of his favorite potions, a nice orange one, and warned, ""Humie! Ee gon sho uu ee firez!"
He knew it would turn the place into a fire pit, but Vidish had no idea the damage he'd do. The firebomb reacted with the stranger's bombs and removed some of the wall and floors when they exploded.
Surveying the damage from the top of the stairs, he realized he could see a body through a hole in the floor. He slowly walked down the stairs to get a closer look until he recognized the robe and the hat. He knew that it was his friend down there, and that he'd just killed her. His eyes went to the doorway looking for the stranger. His rage growing. "Ee comin fer uu!"
He prepped his last fire bomb and jumped through the doorway over the hole in the floor. His rage carried him through the door and pushed him past his smashed shoulder. It even managed to help him ignore the fire he was standing in when he couldn't help dropping his bomb.
He watched as the human ran for the door, his clothing on fire. He watched as the human's remaining potions exploded from the heat, smashing him against the wall. He watched a set of book shelves catch fire. It was that image that brought his senses back.
Suddenly he could feel his mashed shoulder and his burned legs. He felt the pain of losing his friend. He felt everything the rage had protected him from, but he had to save the books. Running as fast as he could on his injured legs he grabbed arm fulls of snow and threw it on the fires. "Nub nub nub! Sayv da buuks!" He did his best to cheer himself on as he worked.
With the fires out and the building in ruins Vidish took his last steps into the snow succumbing to his injuries and smoke filled lungs. _________________ "You believe in that voodoo crap, will you please pray to God for me?"-Garret

Outside of what was once Stonegate Library...
Felyn and Sarker were taken aback as they stepped out of the gate. They stood together in stunned silence, for what seemed like forever, looking over the wreckage that lay before them. Eventually Felyn was forced back to reality when she saw a black wizard's hat. She quickly let go of Sarker's hand and rushed toward it.
Her brow furrowed as she knelt down before Stallis. Felyn brushed the hair back from her face, the inky black locks such a strong contrast against her pale skin. Then she leaned down and whispered, "V'dri al, ussta abbil."
Felyn looked back at Sarker, who was staring at something in the snow. Without turning, he said in a low tone "We should leave. Now."
Felyn stood, unable to keep herself from following his gaze. She recognized the shade of green before anything else. It stood out so vividly against the snow. She ran over in a panic, almost tripping over the debris.
"Vidish!" Felyn cried out, dropping to her knees next to the fallen Orc. She picked up his head and cradled it gingerly in her tiny white hands.
"An Corp! An Corp! An Corp!" she chanted over and over as she rocked back and forth, his lifeless body not responding to the spell. Somewhere in the back of her mind, she knew it was too late to resurrect him. She just wasn't ready to accept it.
"Felyn..." Sarker began quietly.
"Vel'bol kl'ae zhah nindol wlalth ka ol h'ros dormagyn ukta?" she asked Sarker numbly.
"I can't understand you." he replied softly.
Felyn shrugged, her eyes never leaving Vidish. After a few minutes she leaned down and kissed his cheek. Then she whispered something to him in Drow. Minutes passed before she was able to look away from him.
Felyn's vision soon became blurry from a steady flow of tears as she looked around helplessly at what once was the library and their home. While she was trying to make sense of it all, just a few yards away, Felyn saw another listless body. She gently set Vidish's head back down on the floor and stood, wiping her face with both hands. Then she carefully made her way over the rubble and stopped in front of the stranger's corpse. When Felyn looked upon the man's face, she almost screamed.
"I-I know him." she stammered in disbelief. Sarker turned to her, still looking lost. Felyn spoke quickly, rambling on as she explained the significance of this man's presence. Sarker's face darkened as he listened. Without warning, Sarker walked over and lifted his boot before bringing it down swiftly onto the man's head, caving in what was left of his skull. Felyn's stomach lurched as she heard the sickening crunch.
After a few moments, Felyn looked up at Sarker, blinking back tears. He slipped an arm around her waist, gently pulling her to him. Then he helped her open her runebook before prompting her to open a gate.
"Where are we going?" she asked, her voice now completely devoid of emotion.
"It doesn't matter. Anywhere but here." he replied in a soothing tone. _________________ Felyn's Biography
