Beyond the quiet night of Zento, the blue-black snake slithered and curled across the cobblestones. It had been hours since she had coiled around her siblings and drifted off to slumber in a place that their Father called home. Father. Her red eyes glinted in the moonlight as she headed for the shiny blue gate they so often stepped through. He was always gone from the snow leaving them there to face it alone. Anger drifted across her tongue like the scent of a chicken lizard. Tasty and foreign once upon a time, she was getting used to it now.

Cocking her oblong head of scales to the side she slithered through the portal. As was normal she really wasn't paying any attention to where she had directed her body. The bright light of sandstone buildings and endless rows of people yelling however quickly assured her she was nowhere near home. Row after row of goodies sparkled and shined as she wriggled past into the open fields of green and crystal.

Night, with its firm hold on the landscape, changed and altered how her bright red eyes viewed her surroundings. Muscle movement after muscle movement gave way to confusion. Had she come this way? Was she supposed to turn around? Left or Right? Her sense of direction failed her at the base of the shadow steps with their braziers glowing in the distance. She had no concept of location and spun quickly on her scaley belly the other way, running right into a horse.

Hissing she coiled in on herself and stopped. She saw the figure atop the horse reach for a weapon and she tightened her stance. If this stranger didn't kill her, her Mother certainly would when she found out.

The great white wolf cocked her head. The blue eyes piercing thru shadow and light. The fur ruffled softly and her paw scratched at the ground pawing for a moment.

Bending down the mother wolfs nose pressed against the faint trail on the path and an inhalation of scent followed by a sharp exhale came from the wolf. Lifting her head, up to the sky she gave a call that shattered across the landscape, familiar to those around her. The long white throat tilted up and sound reverberated long and hard echoing across the valley.

This wolf was searching for, someone. This wolf would find the youngling and return with her to the snow. To their home, to the busy city of Stonegate.

Suddenly a chorus of cries resounding answering the wolf and she turned heading into the woods off the mountains her direction better known now.

The stranger on the horse regarded her for a moment, his hand firmly on the hilt of weapon she couldn't quite see. She saw the hooves rear up and waited, ready to strike with deadly poison if need be. But in that split instance the stranger reigned in the great beast and ever so slowly backed up and around the blue-black snake. As soon as he was out of sight she tilted her head to take in her surroundings once more. She didn't get much time to take stock though as just at that moment she felt familiar jaws wrap around her tightly, but without pain.

Emily's tongue flicked out and tasted the air, tasted the scent. Mom was here. Once, Twice, three times... her tongue darted out into the air. No anger radiated from the mouth that held her. Instead a sense of relief and something like displeasure swarmed off the fur. Mom was not mad but Mom was not happy. The fourth time her tongue darted out Emily let it flick the top of the wolf's nose. Best to try to kiss up now, she thought.
