Have you posted any screenshots that have your account name on them?
Have you paid with the same CC for anything from a UO player that was the same CC as your UO account?
Do you use different passwords for each uo account and each thing like forums, ICQ, etc? |
Nope
Nope
Yes
I'm stumped on how it happened. _________________

Though I find it extremely discouraging that with that botched attempt and Ceinwyn's hit, two breaches occured in under a week. |
Me too.. And two old school members of the arpc who do nothing but help others and give give give. |

I'll ponder on it some more and see if I can think of anything else. You and Ceinwyn might not be related at all and just a coincidence, but it would be nice to find an answer. A guildmember and I both had our ICQs hacked about 3 - 4 years ago ... back to back. I never could figure out how they did it as my scans came back clean, high-end password, unique password, no one else used my ICQ/Computer/etc. The only conclusion I had was that it was simply one of those programs that plugs in passwords. Considering my password was alphanumeric and wasn't even recognizable as a word... well, it seemed pretty far-fetched, but in the end that was the only thing I could come up with. It sucked royally. |

Perhaps it would be a good idea for the tech savvy rpers to create a thread with a general "How to protect your UO Account" theme to see if there are any updates to any current guide we have as well as bring the information to the attention of the community as a whole? |
We used to have this posted by Kuja, I believe? I just looked through the guidebook section and it's not there. I think it once was in the Sage's tower before we merged it with the guidebook. If an admin could ressurrect/locate it, that would be amazing.
Ken is (I've always thought) one of the more tech savvy Rpers. For this to have happened to him, I find very very weird.
In my case, my passwords were not reset. It couldn't have been a keylogger because I hadn't even accessed one of the accounts in over a week, and it isn't anything similar to the other account name, which eliminates guessing it. The thief was kind enough to rob my gear, my bank, but bring my main char home and put her in a robe of umbra before logging. All my chars were "draped" so as not to be nude. The typical hackers we've seen generally don't care to show such courtesy, plus they steal houses and delete chars altogether as an extra nasty touch.
I also continue to stand by my firm belief that it was someone among us. |

Dear lord. Thank goodness you could get a hold of Edda. lol Oh, Edda, do you remember anyone next to him, who'd be getting the bag? _________________ (4:45:41 PM) Jarem: It becomes increasingly difficult to feel noble in my causes when my cause is to defend my charge from her own violent tendencies. |

This may or may not indicate that Ceinwyn's hit was not an inside job, also.
I'm guessing that you keep a pretty tight set up. _________________ Dryzzid#5091 | 74503058 |

All the anti-hack/account protection threads are in the Support and Feedback forum right now. _________________ "There are those who dream to escape reality, and there are those who dream to change it." |

I was just about to link that post, too I see someone has updated it here and there - thanks! I kinda forgot about it.
You already know all that crap though, Ken, so I'm going to grasp at even more vague straws; were you at school at the time? I wonder if there is any way for anyone to packet sniff you or anything, though that seems hard to believe. Um... Is your password dictionary, or dictionary with numbers after it? I doubt EA gets spammed with brute force password cracking attempts, but you were hacked before so your account name WAS known to someone or multiple people at one point.
I must admit, I am spoiled by the blizzard authenticator at this point, but I digress. |

The account that was previously hacked was my first account, which I have sold off. I think that was about 2-3 years ago. And I was home at the time of the hacking. _________________

I know but I was hoping someone stuck out or was so close it was obvious. Basically hoping. _________________ (4:45:41 PM) Jarem: It becomes increasingly difficult to feel noble in my causes when my cause is to defend my charge from her own violent tendencies. |
