Over the years many Sacrifices were made but sometimes small things were of great import. Greater import than the large obvious sacrifices of time or supplies. Such as a young boy who fearlessly, complied to the methodical testing of an alchemist. Or perhaps a Mage that stopped to help a new cook. A cook who then in turn spent an entire day arduously hunting and preparing food for thier feast. Or perhaps it was in a young half drow who under peril of death brought information to the right hands.
There were so many day after day that gave such in Stonegate, and never stopped. Even Merci's son sacrificed, as a young child, Merci had not been the most attentive of mothers she had been busy witht he delegations of helping Ceinwyn run a prosperous country. She had felt strongly that what she did for the people of Umbra was to come first. She did not regret that choice, she thought fondly of those days. However the boy had suffered some and yet to this day he honored her. She shook her head with pride.
There were those, that were always there, always at the kings side, his shadow Mei, or his advisors Willow and Malikhia. The people he served never questioning, just doing, knowing that what he did, he did for them all.
Let it not be forgotten how their allies supported them thru this busy time, silent, steadfast but always there. Knowing how busy the Empress and her people were, the same flurry of activity upon them as well, they still came they still supported this unusual holiday.
So the day closed with comraderie at the Meadhall as it should be. A good lead in to the next Stonegate Rite...The day of Celebration. _________________ May destiny guide you... |

Korin had thought long and hard about what to give his mother, when it came time to honor her. He had made numerous snowmen and swans and even attempted a ice dragon. But nothing seemed right. What could you give of a woman who gave selflessly of herself.
Korin entered the guildhall that night with nothing in his pack, only his speech that he planned to give. He had helped make one of the gifts that very day and well he felt a little ashamed that he had nothing to give his mother.
As the Wolf King made the announcement Korin only half listened. He was still lost in thought over his speech and gift. Then as he heard his name and his new job and title called out for all to here. It came to him.
Korin waited for his moment he watched as Tarewin presented Myrddin with a sword. Korin started second guessing himself he started going over in his mind the ice dragon idea again. But when he stepped in front of his mother he knew what he had already given her was enough. Korin gave his speech about how his mother had always given of her self to first Umbra and now to Stonegate. He left out the little remarks he had planned about how she had not been the best mother to her own children but yet had been a very good leader of people. Korin hoped that he had given her the best gift he could have Pride in what her son had become. Korin hoped that her pride in his acheivements, was as great as his pride in her.
In closeing his speech Korin reached up and placed both hands on the side of his mothers face. He knew here insides where screaming, but she wouldnt show it. Korin stood on his tiptoes and kissed his mother's forehead. He knew she hated public desplays of affection. But he also knew that the boy who had left Umbra was not the same as the Man that stood before her in Stonegate this night. |
