|
Some people here play or played Darkfall and was just curious as to how it stacks up to other games. I saw it mentioned and decided to look into it myself, but wanted to see how some of you felt about it.
It seems that most people compare it to UO, and indeed from what I read, it sounds a lot like old-school UO. Open world PvP with fully lootable bodies. Placable player housing. Formation of guilds and ability to make player-run towns. No classes, just skills to raise like UO. Does Darkfall feel like a next-gen-ish UO?
I have not read many reviews, but they were not very good ones, the ones that I did read. However, it seems that all of them were based on the initial, rocky release of the game. How is the game now, now that reportedly so much of it has been fixed and revamped?
It is hard to tell from some pictures and videos, but how are the graphics? To me, the character models look better than WoW, but the environments tend to lack detail. Any thoughts?
The player base seems small according to some numbers I have seen, but people don't seem to have any problems with this as the numbers apparently are slowly rising and it all takes place on one or two servers. Is the world a ghostland? Or can you pretty much find people to interact with regularly?
The physical Darkfall world is touted to be one of the biggest. How difficult is it to get around? How long does it take to walk from one end to the other?
Overall, how do you find the game? Fun? Interesting? Are there more things to do than just PvP? Like in UO you could craft, or be a thief, or make a library, or really whatever else you wanted to do within the game mechanics.
Thanks for any feedback! _________________ Sometimes you must lose yourself before you can find yourself. |

Darkfall requires a LOT of time, but when I played it, it was a lot of fun. the PvP is intense. The skillgrinding is a little disheartening. I haven't played in a while, but I hear it has increased its "fun level." _________________

Darkfall is a decent game... I wouldn't call it a "next-gen UO" though. While it does well with the free-pvp and full loot, making adventures outside of cities more exciting, pvp isn't all that fun imo. Every battle I've had just involved my opponent and I circling around eachother, repeatedly pressing the [attack] key until one got a lucky shot, and the other sprinted away in fear. Clan battles are fun... But the lack of fun 1v1 battles kinda turned me away.
There are quite a few free games, not to mention UO, that have a better free pvp world than Darkfall. So yeah, while the idea of Df as a free pvp, open world game is good, it's not really the best game in its genre, imo. |

Darkfall would be the only game i played if i had the time for it. Now with the changes it is alot easier to gain skills, But the resource grind is still hard/rubbish. if you like to pvm (which i don't) you can have fun getting items. The best part about darkfall is everyone can be on equal footing everything in the game is craftable. At the moment i don't have any time for it and cant play but if you do decide to play i can get you in contact with the guild i am in and get you in they are very good about helping guys out plus we own 2 hamlets and our alliance has like 5 cities. GREAT game to play all around you should at least try it out for a few months if your interested in how it sounds and see if you like the feel as well. |

I might try it out, but not quite sure yet. If it had a free trial thing I definitely will. _________________ Sometimes you must lose yourself before you can find yourself. |

there is a 7 day trial for $1 to try out the game.
I myself play Darkfall and do like it. However it lacks a lot to be comparable to UO. Especially where RP is concerned. The only way to talk is by party/chat windows which blows for rp. Many rpers who play have been pushing Aventurine to add in chat bubbles for months. They are still fixing the game up, adding to it, tweaking things. Overall I enjoy it, but I have to come back to UO for rp. I like the quests, mob hunting and the clan I am in. PvP isn't for me just yet so i work harvesting and crafting skills. Plenty to do. |
