All right then, how do we go about implementing this? Do we have a post for it here on the forums? Do we have something in game? What? Suggestions!

Something In game. It'd be cool rp to see who you meet at the Bounty Board. Team ups for bounties...rivalries, etc.

Then we need at least 3 different bounty board locations. Generic Good, Neutral, Evil places.

Umbra would have no problem hosting one at our Tavern within the Grove for any neutral/evil player use.

Sweet deal.

Make sure to be as descriptive as possible in all of the bounties. Include payment price, who to see for payment, what you want done, and anything else.

Can always span across 2 or 3 pages.

Can we somehow apply the new mailbox items to this?

Perhaps people drop in a book.

I don't know about mailboxes, but I think you can lock down chests so people can open it and view the contents, maybe even access books, but not take them. No?

If an IG thing can't be made, boards could work too.

You can lock down a chest, but allow it openable by all, the books inside can also be set to all accessible. That way people can drop books in, but the owner of the house will have to set access on the new books. But anyone can read them.

I like the idea of using the traditional bulletin boards for this. Might as well take it back to the classic way of the bounty system as closely as possible.

But there are some considerations that should be made. I will attempt to apply order to my thoughts:

1) Proof: I assume capture or kill will be the standard. Capture is easy enough, but if a kill or even 'rough up' request should be made, how will one prove they completed the assignment?

I am all for allowing people to be creative and coming up with their own unique ways, but not everyone likes the idea of you saying their head got cut off just because they mechanically died. Some people don't really rp that they have died at all when they lose a fight. So limits or 'guide lines' might be a good thing to have.

2) Societal laws: Several of us, myself included, have our own kingdoms and nations, all with our own sets of laws and ideals. But do we want to implement an understanding of how Bounty Hunters are generally viewed?

I know in the Star Wars universe Bounty Hunters are given a certain number of freedoms, though they are still subject to the laws of the government they are within.

I'm sure there will be a great number of variation here, just throwing out a thought.

3) Roleplay vs. Mechanics: Some of us will want to approach this rather mechanically..Not to say that there wouldn't be roleplay, but more so in that they would want to physically duke it out. Other people would want to try and handle this 100 percent Rp'ly with dialogue and emotes.

I think either extreme would be an easily abused bad thing. I would encourage a sort of balance, and as someone else stated, likely also encourage that this be something discussed between the target and the hunter.

3.5 : I'm going to go ahead and assume right now that my above point will raise the concern that always comes hand in hand with assassinations, and that is :

What about the element of surprise?

I think this ties in to how do we view Bounty hunters?

Are they freelancers that bring individuals to a government that are wanted in that government's eyes? Are they the same thing as Mercenaries but in a less militaristic sense?

Again this is just something to think about.

4) Roleplay surrounding bounty hunters in general:

I think one of the biggest problems this system will face is that I know I myself have considered playing a bounty hunter in the past and would love to do so. I am also sure that I am not the only one that feels that way.

I am also sure that as Myrddin Ab'Arawn, there is a 99.9 percent likeliness that if a bounty hunter ever came to Stonegate looking for work I would turn them away. Not because I don't want the rp, but because of how my character, the king of a Warrior Nation, would view the concept of 'using a bounty hunter' vs 'doing it in house'.

For this to really really take off you need a balance, which is part of the problem that affects the Mercenaries in my eyes.

In a time of war you are set, but what about when guilds aren't warring?

I think that for Bounty Hunters to be a viable concept we actually need opposition. Whether it is criminals, thiefs, or rival bounty hunters - we need to acknowledge that if this is to have any chance we will need people who are willing to play the other side of the fence instead of just jumping for the chance to be a bounty hunter.

At the very least we'd need Bounty Hunters willing to sabotage one another for a bid.

Now, I know I've asked more questions than answered and more than saying anything I am bringing up points of thought and perspective..but if we are to discuss this productively I thought they might be good starting points to address.

As more specific thoughts come to me in greater detail I will post.

I have already started something similar with the City Watch/Doomed Patrol. We will have a public bulletin board at the Precinct as soon as we get it renovated.

I like this idea a lot. I was planning on having a "night court" to clear our dockets.

What will happen when someone refuses to be bountied?
