Scar sat staring into the crackling flames of the sole source of heat in his rented room, a simple fireplace. He distinctly detected the onset of the upcoming winter, and though he was not uncomfortable with that thought, or the icy sting of the night air, something made him shudder involuntarily.

He could not take enjoyment nor real satisfaction in events of recent days, some of which he had participated in: the rise of Stonegate and its triumphal march into Luna to establish itself as master and protector of the city and the apparent demise of the Lich Lord who had ruled Umbra, to name a couple that came readily to mind. As much as such memories should stir his spirit, they could not compete with what by now had continually filled his mind with a sense of hopelessness...

Erin. Why do you haunt my dreams? he kept asking himself. Who... what... are you?

The potions Merci had given him to control his shapeshifting had worked... for now. He was not afraid to venture out in public, even at night. The last of these he had taken a few days ago and he believed he was cured.

But the dreams did not abate.

No matter their substance, much of which made no sense at all... disconnected vignettes as they were... invariably she would appear... smiling, sometimes taunting, always untouchably sensual...

This all despite the fact that he had not seen her in person for months. Her room was like it always was, and had she not left a few expensive personal items lying about, he would swear she had moved out.

His thoughts wandered back to her. Far away, in the distance, he heard the howl of a wolf. The sound sent waves of adrenalin through his body... the urge to transform and run amok was almost overpowering. Still he sat, believing the potions had worked and that he need no longer worry. He closed his eyes and lay his head back in the chair...

Like ripples in a pond his feelings grew and Erinyes watched from the shadows. Howling wolves in every dream, she could sense them even now outside the castle. Why did they seem to be a large part of this.

What she found oddest of all was that she could sense his preoccupation with her. That wasnt expected...That through the shadow demon for a jolt...

All her careful plans, and now she realized that this game, was more than just that. She was an illusionist, she was part of the shadows, his dreams and nightmares were only brought on to intensify his feelings of anger... to push the truth from him. Yet a new truth was coming to light she had not expected nor knew what to do with. His mind was addling and she wasnt instructed to harm just gain information...

Nor did she want to harm him..that notion bothered her and she turned her face away from the light.

She drew a cold white hand to her chest, her black hair silken and falling about soft white shoulders, her eyes gleaming in the shadows. It was time....

Was it all a dream? Was she truly a daemon, a Shadow daemon, one of which he'd never heard? But the welcome image of their kiss kept flashing before his sleep-filled eyes. It was early dawn, and the last crackling embers within the fireplace sputtered and died. He was stiff from having slept in the chair, but despite that he rose suddenly and took a sniff of the cold morning air. Yes, he remembered her scent ... a warm summer's jasmine wafting on the whisper of a wind. She had been there; it was no dream. The memories of their meeting came to mind now in rapid succession... her appearance and awareness that he was not quite human; her promise to end the nightmares; their mutual admission of the truth, and then the first kiss... nothing noteworthy... but her first she had said. Best of all she wanted another. The second was the dream come true; the hunter having taken his prize; the battle's victor rushing upon the spoils of war.

What was it like to be in love with a daemon?

He was finding out fast.

But he had work to do. With a smile on his face, he readied himself and headed out to patrol Luna.
