Kal’iksix took one more look at her Mother and brother before leaving the Abyss. The smug smirk on her lips made them swallow hard. She had the upper hand and they both knew it.
“If there is nothing more Mother, I am returning to the surface and my House.”
“Your male is a persistent one. He communed with me again; I have given him strict orders.”
“Drayden will follow through, no need to think otherwise dear Brother.” Kal’iksix glanced at her masked brother next to her Mother. He did not answer.
Kal’iksix chanted and levitated the still lifeless body of the Patron to bring him home. She turned and looked to see if there was going to be any rejections from the stunned deities. Not meeting any, she nodded, and teleported them from the Abyss.
Emerging from the smoke, Kal’iksix saw a familiar statue in front of her. The obsidian homage to the Spider Queen loomed before her. She smiled to herself as she stepped forward to see her temple still standing. She turned to look at the Patron only to find him still motionless and unconscious. Kal’iksix growled and looked at the statue.
“Mother!!!”
“Your patron will remain in this state until I feel you have proved yourself enough.”
“Damn you! I hold the key to destroy you!!”
“True Daughter, but it will also lead to your undoing as well.”
Lolth’s laughter boomed in Kal’iksix’s ears as she collapsed next to Nalimar’s body. She clenched her teeth in anger. Now she will not bear a strong daughter to assist her in her tasks. Slamming her fist into Nalimar’s chest, Kal’iksix heard a loose pebble tumble down the stairs and heard a familiar echo. The Crypt!!! Kal’iksix quickly levitated the lifeless body and moved him to the crypt below the altar. Spotting the familiar bed of her son there, she placed Nalimar in the bed and covered him. She penned a quick note to her son, explaining what had happened and gave him explicit orders to care for his father. Kal’iksix then made her to the top of the temple and sat on the altar in deep thought. It was the sound of footsteps that brought her out of her thoughts. She smiled to herself and whispered “Drayden”. |

The knock on his front door was so light that he hardly heard it. Rising from the stool where he sat peering into an ancient tome on alchemy recently discovered, Dharzhal went to a slit opening in the south wall and peered out. A hooded figure stood in the doorway, but his long white hair fluttered from inside the cowl in the breeze and he had taken no action to hide the color of his hands. He was drow and wanted to make sure it was obvious.
Dharzhal opened the door and stood blocking it. "Who are you and what do you want?" he asked, without emotion of any kind in his tone.
The drow bowed low, almost touching the ground.
A slave
"Vendui, Master. I bring word to you. The Matron has returned from her long absence. You would do well to visit her home and pay homage," he said without ever meeting his gaze. "I have heard she has been asking about members of her House."
"I thank you for the information, if it is true. I shall assume for now it is." He flipped him a gold coin.
The drow messenger caught it in mid flight. "Thank you, Master."
"You may go now. I will seek her out soon."
The messenger bowed low one more time, then departed. Dharzhal wondered who had sent him, but it really didn't matter. Having at least one friend among members of his House was enough for him. |
